I personally still see a Kane Farrell type winger when I look at him, who has a little more craft around goals, maybe a better mark. Could easily see Berry slotting into a wing role personally.
Think his ball use needs to significantly get better, especially under pressure, if he were to go into midfield at all in anyway, incl wing. Has Farrell like kicking traits. For me, he's a Fritsch type

If your comment about not knowing which way is up when in defence, is about Asava, that’s not how the club sees it.

Rat collected B&F votes in 19 games last year! There was a patch where he didn’t and that was when he played forward after the Geelong game.

He collected 5 in the semi-final win against Geelong too. So the club certainly see him as best 22, playing a combination of second ruck and defence.
Yes it was. And clearly the club sees it differently because they're in denial about their trade error. Same with McEntee. There's always 2 players under Ken that shouldn't be playing but are playing. They gave him B&F votes to convince us he's good. I don't buy that. Maybe there's hope we a good preseason working on his craft but certainly not to get a KPD is strange.

I wonder whether we're trialling Granger-Barrass. We loved him in his draft year.

So surely we invite R.Burgoyne, L.Montgomery, Dennis, McLennan and Watkins to train on. Who are the best mature tall backs we could ask also?

Before anyone says Grainger-Barras, I don’t think he nominated for the draft so I am not even sure he is eligible.
He shouldn't be nominated to try on as SSP

He's a big bodied midfielder. Kinda reminds me of Richard Douglash a bit. No x-factor but is strong over the ball, tackles hard, can pick up big numbers and can kick goals
Was a top 15 prediction in his under 17s year so a massive drop off to not get picked up at all. A bit surprised as looked okay at senior snafl level end of season in a poor South team.

Dunno if it's been mentioned in the discussion about the Cochrane pick and our angling at Doug...

But is there any chance we might be lobbying with the AFL that we would like access to our indigenous academy kids as opposed to an NGA that covers a zone that we're not that related to? And that by attempting to have Doug a part of our indigenous academy now, he'll be available to us when his draft comes around?

I dunno, I feel especially with only one indigenous player being picked up in the national draft this year, the AFL might be interested in that proposal, allowing us to put more resources towards it as well.

Previous players that were in our indigenous academy are Wayne Milera and Brandon Parfitt I believe.

Edit: I have no idea how any of the academies really work haha.

I think Clancy Dennis still has an ankle injury. Not sure how serious it is. It seems like port was never using their fourth pick because they had different ideas for their last two spots! It’s lucky there was no bid on benny.
Who’d seriously bid on a 174cm player unless they’re a small forward goal kicking machine.

Port Adelaide

Players drafted: Joe Berry (15), Jack Whitlock (33), Christian Moraes (38)

Port Adelaide pulled the first live trade of the draft, moving up a spot to grab half forward Joe Berry. The Bushrangers goalkicker models his game on Robbie Gray and boasts similarities in his silky ball use and penchant for standing up in big games.

They were considering Jack Whitlock at 15, and were stunned to see him slide all the way to pick 33 where they snatched him up. He will take time to develop his 200cm frame but presents as a long-term Charlie Dixon replacement leading out of full forward.

Finally, Christian Moraes was another slider they were keen to grab. The Ranges midfielder has played across all three areas of the ground and does not stop running. It means he finds plenty of ball and can kick goals. Benny Barrett will slot onto their rookie list as an NGA small forward.

The Power needed to capitalise on this draft after trading Dan Houston, and they grabbed three high quality prospects with two likely to play AFL football next year.

Grade: A

As did Fox:

PORT ADELAIDE

Picks (at the start of the draft): 13, 29, 36, 50

Selections: Joe Berry (15), Jack Whitlock (33), Christian Moraes (38)

The Power landed Murray Bushrangers livewire Joe Berry after using Pick 45 to get a pick ahead of West Coast in the first round, despite having been linked to a key-position type with their first selection. Berry is an exciting forward prospect who plays in a similar manner to Port Adelaide champion Joe Berry and is a chance to walk straight into Ken Hinkley’s best 23. Night two proved just as fruitful for the Power, snapping up slider Jack Whitlock at No. 33 — after it was understood they were surveying key forward options with their first selection. They made another value addition five picks later, calling the name of running machine Christian Moraes to supplement their midfield group.

Grade: A

And because we all love a report card at this time of year, here are the Fox ratings for other Clubs:

Crows: B+

Brisbane: A

Carlton: B+

Collingwood: C+

Essendon: B

Fremantle: B-

Geelong: C+

Gold Coast: B

GWS: B-

Hawthorn: C

Melbourne: B

North: C-

Richmond: A+

St Kilda: B+

Sydney: C-

West Coast: A+

Western Bulldogs: C+

I know it's against the BF spirit of negativity but considering how little draft capital we had this year compared to others I think the recruitment team did a great job in their strategy and selections in this year's draft. This is especially important with the string of compromised draft periods coming up in the near future with the Tasmanian entry.

Now we all wait and see how they perform over coming years.

Yes, I quoted Fox's summary earlier. I think we did very well and the media pundits agree. Proof of the pudding and all that, but they look like quality picks and all fill a need.

Meaningless ratings.

For starters, Richmond could have sacked their entire drafting team after Trade Period and employed a 12 yo girl from Ethiopia who had woken up from a 5 year coma on the morning of the draft, given her any random phantom draft from BigFooty.com and she would have got an A+.

The perceived strength of this draft and the actual strength may be completely different- have another look in 5 years.

We apparently already have a champion Joe Berry

While that would make sense obviously the AFL have left a loop hole. Players who have previously been on a list don’t need to nominate for the draft to be an SSP selection.

If anything, that might suggest Grainger-Barras had a guarantee from someone
