List Mgmt. 2024 AFL Draft

The BigFooty phantom draft has us with Hotton with our first pick and then Dattoli then Hayes.

I might be in the minority but I’d be very happy with those first two picks, but would then like us to take a key back and key forward with the next two.
I'm happy with the first two but I'd go with Barratt at 36 and West at 50 or a Tom Sims/Gerreyn at 36 and Dennis at 50. Wouldn't mind that draft at haul at all

For the small forwards, I really like Ollie Hannaford. I like him more than Berry and a smidge more than Dattoi who I like a lot.

But then again, I loved Lance Collard last year but it is early days.
It's between Hannaford and Dattoli for me too. They are different compared to the small forwards we currently have and can roll through the midfield. I would be happy be either

Very tiny draft. 2 of those guys are sub 180cm, the other 182 with an ACL.

I mean considering many want Berry I think we can hardly complain about height. Which is why I want Hynes at our first pick 😉

Basing it off Cal's rankings (given he has more inside info on recruiters than any others), Imo our targets in the 20s will be Hannaford, Oliver, Gross. I don't see us targetting Whitlocks (thankfully), Faull or Moraes. Maybe Dodson but I highly doubt it.

Which means our first pick needs to be someone like if no one from the top 10 slips through) Hynes because we need a MID/FWD hybrid or Shanahan because we need a tall forward at some stage of the draft.

I haven't fully thought of a scenario where we take Shanahan with pick 13, will be interesting to see how that pans out if it happens.

I'm slightly more optimistic now about Hannaford falling to 29 than I was 2 weeks ago. Apparently his 2km time trial result put off some recruiters.

Football games have usually been won by the team with the dominant mid field since JC played full back for Jerusalem, so if the club is attempting to get into a situation where it would be a chance to pick up Bo Allen then I am all for it.

A 190cm plus midfielder with speed who straight lines the ball and then tonks it straight down the guts could be the real missing link for Port as opposed to trading for B and C grade big blokes who may have an attitude problem, or an actual lack of genuine footy nous.

Being serious for a moment:think: I'm of the opinion Allen could be a generational talent, and with the right coaching to tidy up a few rough edges with his disposal he could be sit comfortably inside the top 50 players in the comp within a few short years!

I can complain about height because I'm not keen on Berry either ;)

One tiny teddy I could cope with and that would be Dattoli based on highlights only. If you take out the talls in Cal Twomey's top 30 he's ranked almost alongside Berry.

Hotton's disposal and decision-making bothers me more than his height and injury.

Depending how many picks we end up with we should go tall a couple of times and depending on sliders I'm not opposed to going tall with #13. I wouldn't mind Charlie West at 50.

We should get Burgoyne and Barrett at the back end so we have a medium and small ready to go. Maybe Montgomery depending on list space. I did like the look of Ollie Francou, sort of a cut price Lalor, although his kicking looks a mixed bag.

Another flaky flanker, isn't seen on field for three days then turns up post game claiming all the glory.

It took me a while, but I found out why we can get Benny Barrett under the NGA rules as he lives in South Adelaide's metro zone and his junior club was Happy Valley.

I knew he was born in NT and just assumed he was an aboriginal player.

We have got access to Benny Barrett because both his parents were born in PNG and whilst he was born in NT, he qualifies as a multi cultral kid from a CALD, cultural and linguistic diverse background. These kids can come from / live in SANFL aligned clubs metro and/or country zones.

For the 4 SA and WA AFL clubs, aboriginal players must have been brought up and lived in their SANFL and WAFL aligned clubs' country zones before they moved to the city to play state league footy.

Just thinking further about our draft strategy more. If we miss out on Hannaford, Dattoli, Gross with 29, think we must take James Barratt there and then go for Hargrave later as an alternative to those 3 mid/fwds I mentioned. I know he's dropped down the board but the talent is obvious and his fall imo is more due to lack of opportunities in midfield for SA (dominated by Draper, Campos etc) than talent. He's still perhaps SA's most consistent performer across the past 2 years.
