They were going to swap picks with Fremantle and clearly everyone thought Allan was a flight risk. Fremantle would have taken Berry, who we wanted. Clearly Gray and Butters were involved in that choice. After falling for Wet Toast's double bluff (they were never going to pick Berry - they got their man Allen), we'll have to see how things play out tonight.
If other clubs play shenanigans, and do early deals to thwart our selections and leave us with scraps, we don't have much if any collateral to bargain with to outwit them.
Really exposed ourselves badly last night - leaving aside whether a small forward was really a "must have" at that pick anyway.
Correct- but in reality we need a mature option here as well as a young gun. Maybe Finlayson is back up. He has played there before.KPD is our biggest hole left in terms of list structure and needs to be filled tonight
We’d have to lose Butters, Rozee and Mitch to get close to their draft haul.Meanwhile we stuff around doing well in H&A and then bomb out embarrassingly in finals again & again. Tiges got kissed on the a*se with the trades they did & we got predictably screwed with the Houston trade.
Lose a couple of them to GC, and you are guaranteed plenty of top 10-15 picks, especially if they have academy kids coming thru and you can offer them lots of picks in the 30s, 40s and 50s as part of the deal. We’d have to lose Butters, Rozee and Mitch to get close to their draft haul.
They lost Rioli, Baker, Graham and Bolton
Simms looks great IMOAccording to Fox:
The Power, who hold Picks 33 and 38 in the second round, had been linked to Whitlock in the lead-up to the draft amid speculation they’d choose a key forward with their first selection. But if Whitlock is off the board by the time they select, 199cm Northern Knights goalkicker Thomas Sims could be another option.

Sticky hands!
Currently 1 rookie ADoes West Coast need another tall forward? With Waterman and Allen being the main targets and they drafted the likes of Jack Williams and Archer Reid in previous drafts. If they are looking for a tall, you would think Kayle Gerreyn would be selected since he is a local product and the go home factor is not there.
I can't see the Western Bulldogs drafting another tall forward, let alone tall with their tall stocks. The main concern is St Kilda and they need a tall forward so I would be very surprised if they decide not to select one of Whitlock or Shanahan; hopefully the saints select Whitlock which then gives us every chance of nabbing Shanahan.
Now unless another club decides to move up the draft order such as Essendon trading one of their future 1st picks to the Tigers for their pick 28 and select Shanahan; not a good trade for the bombers OR Port elects to pick someone else. I think we are a very good chance of nabbing Shanahan.
There is also every chance that the Cats trades away their future 1st to Richmond and nab Dodson which I think would be a great get and fill their ruck stocks.
My preferred outcome is Jobe Shanahan and Angus Clarke and Benny Barrett becomes a Cat B rookie which would leave us with 1 spot on the main list if that is correct and we can use the pre-season draft to grab a tall defender or something.
How many spots do we have for the rookie list?
Not to Richmond but yeah I agreeI think shanahan goes with the first pick tonight.
I'm worried that other teams might bid on Barrett if we go all Bidney on other teams NGA or F/S picks. Think we just try to keep a low profile and hope he falls to the rookie draft. Will we throw a bid on Walsh (knowing full well the crows will match) but just for the sake of it?

Of course someone will still bid on Benny if they really like him, but I think it will reduce the chance that we have to match in the ND.
Maybe another 40 picks tonight give or take. But it will go quicker than the first round.
We don't have a pick between round 2 and round 9 so we shouldn't have to tap out until a bid is made (or not) on Barrett.
We could even use a PSD pick if Barrett gets to the Cat B list. Can mull on the best of the leftovers overnight.
Hopefully to us.I think shanahan goes with the first pick tonight.
Have you watched him play?I don’t really understand the Benny love on this board. He doesn’t appear to be rated anywhere else but here. Seems he’s just as likely to go undrafted as he is drafted. If it wasn’t for the fact he was tied to us, I’m not sure we would even know who he was.
Unless we’ve just hidden him away this year, if he’s only a pick 60+ small forward on talent then I’m not sure what that will provide us with.
Could be completely wrong but I just don’t get it.
They also got Collingwood's future first in that. The fact GC can and did basically pay pick 13 for John Noble to collingwood, and 6 for Rioli is a farce. Why can they do it? Because they have all these academy kids in the pipeline.
points at Joe BerryHave you watched him play?
He's the x-factor small forward we need. We've hidden him away a bit this year but it's a low risk high reward pick
