Saints to give Tigers pick 8 + F1 for Tigers picks 10 & 11

Tigers get a 2 pick upgrade to get ahead of Melbourne's pick 9 and shed a pick to get another in next year's draft

We still have 7 and get 10 & 11 ... get 3 high picks .... but lose our F1 (anywhere between pick 6 & 14) which I think we were happy to trade out anyway

Would anyone be happy with that?
Could work.

Everyone except Richmond and Richmond Fans.

Really concerned about Richmond’s second pick. I think we really need to trade up to 2 to guarantee Smillie. North can surely still get tauru at 7/8 and we can set up our midfield perfectly
From a Richmond point of view. Think we’ll take whoever is left out of Smillie or Langford (Assuming Lalor, Smith, FOS & Draper is gone)

We could potentially pick up Tauru (or Dees could also) which might hinder a deal with Norf for you guys.

What value would Richmond currently put on a St Kilda first round pick in the 2025 draft?

I personally don’t think it’ll even be a target. But to answer the question I don’t think you make the 8, probably 9 - 12?

If anything I think the picks 18, 20, 23 & 24 are the ones that may be combined to either move up or push into next year. 4 picks in the first 11 (that are available to us) are too valuable in this deep draft.

We may try to use 6 & 18/20 to see if Norf will bite to give us 2 but if not happy days.

A fair few Richmond supporters are happy with what we have as we need talent everywhere. Hoping to pick 2-3 mids, 1 KPF and 2-3 smaller/medium types (Berry/Travaglia/Lindsay etc)

I would be, on the proviso it’s only done on the night, just after pick 7.
( I like to hedge my bets and see who’s available at pick 8 still. I guess I don’t do risks 🤣)

We would absolutely eat that up but given the price already put on high picks in this draft we'd be dreaming.

That's when it would happen .... on draft night .... that a player who Richmond like a lot is available at Pick 8 after our pick 7 and may think won't get past us at Pick 8 or Melbourne's pick 9

Of course this would get scuppered if the below happens

North's pick 2 and Tigers involvement - a trade will happen here because of the Tigers wanting to move up moreso than North wanting to move out ... if that's the case then it's minimum pick 6 & probably pick 11 ... Tigers won't want North ahead of them at pick 10 ..... unless Tigers are crazy desperate then its 6 & 10

But there're still questions around Tauru and if North would take him at pick 2 cause even if they moved out to pick 6 the Dees could swoop and take him with pick 5 .... if that is who North are prioritising of course

Also I doubt Langford would last to pick 7 if Tigers are still have pick 6 and all the other big name mids ... Lalor / FOS / Draper / Smith are off the table

Gunna be a very interesting night

Almost definitely. Odds are there's only gonna be 1 of the top mids available at our picks from all the chatter, so if we get Smillie/Langford/Smith/Draper/Lalor/FOS/Reid at 7 I'd be happy with trading live at the draft for 8 + F1 for 10 and 11. Unless on the off chance two of those are available at 7 & 8, then probably not. Depends if someone reaches for Armstrong and/or Tauru from the sounds of things.

Oh good… we’re doing Petracca and McCartin again… greeeeeaaat.

Leadership an added bonus. Didn't realise he was captain of the AFL Academy

Praying we get this kid:

THE ‘BORN LEADER’ LEANING ON ADVICE FROM CRIPPS
Big-bodied midfielder Josh Smillie has revealed he leant on advice from a two-time Brownlow Medal winner this year as he battled “some challenges” after entering the season as a highly-touted No. 1 draft pick contender.
Smillie met with Carlton star Patrick Cripps earlier in the year and made notes from the conversation, which he continually went back and reflected on.
A 195cm onballer, the 18-year-old has drawn comparisons to Cripps and Greater Western Sydney midfielder Tom Green, two players who he watches closely.
“I’d want to be half the player Patrick Cripps is now,” Smillie said.
“He’s the best player in the game at the moment. I really look up to those two (Cripps and Green) just because they’re big-bodied midfielders and I watch all the work that they do and try and implement it in my game.”
Smillie’s form was a little up and down at times this year, not helped by some minor injuries and illness.

He was required to spend significant time outside of the midfield during the under-18 national championships with Vic Metro, including roles in attack and defence.
“I’m very versatile so I can play any position and I grew up playing any position,” Smillie said.
“I can go forward or play across half back, but the midfield is my primarily position.
“The year’s done and you reflect on your year. You take out some negatives but you also want to look at the positives. If you said last year I’d be in the position I am now, I’d be pretty proud of this year so far.”
Smillie captained the Eastern Ranges in the Coates Talent League this year as well as serving as skipper of the AFL Academy team in two exhibition matches earlier this season.
Alongside his power and ball-winning abilities, leadership is another key trait that he prides himself on.
“I was raised from my parents being a real leader and a careful person to others,” Smillie said.
“Leadership is something I take pretty seriously. I’m a very caring person that likes to put others before me and see them succeed. It’s just something I’ve grown up with and it just comes natural.”

What's the general consensus on Armstrong?

Looks a very similar size and player to Jamarra. His u18 stats are genuinely almost identical to Jamarra's.
I'm not sold on Armstrong as much as others ... nothing jumps out to me about him

Tauru on the other hand ......

Would anyone pull the trigger on Tauru if we get a mid with the other pick?

I'd be very disappointed if we used one of our picks on a key forward. Probably the position of least need for us.
We aren’t taking Armstrong with our first pick.

Tauru at 15. Kako at 16.

If he’s right then he’s a genius.

Agree with both of you. I reckon the dude is a bit clueless but it does give us perspective about how a Richmond fan sees their haul panning out

Passing on Smillie for Reid is huge for us, and if Tauru gets to us as well I think that'd be an excellent result

it was somewhat of a shock when the rumor came out we would take paddy, the argument was there because people were questioning trac's character, not because they thought paddy was the better player, and even still I can't remember anyone really being firmly in the paddy camp. It was a generational **** up on our behalf, thought we were smarter than everyone else only to prove the opposite

FFS...

There were so many factors not least of all:

Our desperation for a KPF - We had Roo and then NOTHING. Bruce was untried as a forward & Membrey was untried, period. We had no idea what we had.

Watching the Dogs cough up the world for Tom Boyd scared the shit out of the club with the idea being that elite mids can be found with later picks in later drafts but top 5-10 KPFs don't come along very often.

Trac's Character - He was (and still is) and absolute FIGJAM specialist. There was plenty of talk that if a small club like us took him, and we stayed fairly shit, he'd be on the trade table to Collingwood inside 5 years.

We also understood that Trac was the better player. We even had a deal with GWS that was agreed to, pending the Dees compo for Frawley.

We would have traded 1 + 22 to the Giants for 3 + 6. The club wanted one of Trac, McCartin or Brayshaw at 3 and then Laverde or Wright at 6.

When the Dees got pick 3 for Frawley it meant we were gonna miss out on one of those targets and we held our pick.

There's no possible way the club could have seen Paddy's concussion issues being as bad as they became. If that didn't flare up he would have played 150+ games for us, easy.

Go watch what he was doing to teams, sometimes in a half or even a qtr, as a 19yo. He was a ****ing monster at FF.

10 years of whinging from this board later, I still don't blame them for making the pick. He had the type of aggression & leadership I wish Max King could be injected with TBH...

Absolutely.

Walk away with the best mid at 7, snag Trainor at 10 to replace Battle, then best available at 11.

Supercharge the list immediately.

Love it.
