Thats great but like any partnership its a two way street!

Sandringham have NOT attracted one player of AFL deserving standard for years and it didnt change with the Saints dangling a rookie carrot. Why should we be expected to take an obvious sub standard player in the year of a super draft, when they havent looked like holding up their end of the agreement.

Surely common sense has to come has to come into play - Sandringham are a poorly run and financially struggling VFL club we couldnt have got into bed with a worse match. Either the Saints need to enact a complete take over of Sandringham or walk away and run there own VFL team.
It's only coming up to 1 year since the arrangement was made public, with many players already being committed to clubs before our announcement. How can they 'hold up their end of the agreement'' if we haven't given them any time for the agreement to work?

Yep and nothing has changed - like the past decade. The only new player they brought in was Hall-Kahan and he was delisted from Sydney for a reason he is a gop. Apart from the kids we ran through Sandringham during the year, there was the ZERO new exciting talent exposed by Sandringham.

When they still have no financial resources, how do you think that is going to change next year, the year after and ongoing it wont!

To think us dangling a rookie position is going to help Sandringham is ludicrous when they cant help themselves.

For the 100th time, we cant expect their recruiting to immediately turn around in one off season. It will take time and actual proof from us that we will uphold our end of the bargain.

I get they haven’t shown anything yet but this is the first year it’s been tried so not sure you’d expect much. The best players from lower leagues arent just going to come running over the hill towards TBO in it’s inception. Firstly you have to resource it properly then you have to follow through with a level of commitment demonstrating you are serious about it and it’s not just a throw away idea. It will take time.

I am happy for it to remain as long as Sandringham see this year they were well below par with their recruitment and they need to lift their game. Accordingly Sandringham should let is pass this year and our club assess how it looks next year. To feel compelled take a sub standard player from Sandringham now is madness and really poor list management IMO.

We had nearly a decade there where we were practically a spud farm, run hopelessly by a spud coach, with a spud footy department. Consequently the whole club became a blight.
There's sexier more profitable veg out there, but you've got to rotate the crops, and weed out accordingly.
Not sure adding another spud is the way to go, either for us or Sandringham...the plan is one of goodwill, but it needs to be re- strategized to be of any practical use.
Tbh the Sandy senior players are now worse than previously. We at least had guys like Cook, Mitch Brown, etc. Sandy’s better year this year was driven by St Kilda’s better depth. As evident by the poster that noted there wasn’t a BnF vote by a single non listed player.

For the 200th time where do the funds miraculously come from to improve their recruiting? When have they shown for the past decade they can improve they simply cant get it done. Unless our club completely takes over Sandringham and their recruiting nothing will change. Go and have a look at the players clubs like Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton, Hawthorn have exposed in their VFL programs compared to Sandringham. Its night and day Sandringham simply dont have the capacities to get it done.

We have invested more money into their recruiting as result of this agreement, including there being a new sandy recruiting officer and new role created to help integrate those players into our training/preseason programs.

The thing is that the odds of the 44th player being that guy are very slim. There are always outliers but mostly that guy ends up delisted very quickly.
So the experiment hasn't payed immediate dividends in its 1st year, but what if it pays of next year, or in 2 years. Building a model for sustained success requires investment.

In a year we have 2 top 10 picks, 2 NGAs and 1 FS available to us, this conversation about the 44th list spot is just silly. Take our medicine this time and see if Sandy get a couple of better players in next year.
This is a bit more of a generic view

It’s more practically related to someone like Hotton or Hayes who will need to be delisted as a result.

Likely.

Geelong has effectively an entire league they can harvest for players and hide them if desired.

Swans are blessed with their academy.

Pies effectively sit in the middle of both with their father sons and finances allowing for them to stick recruiters wherever they please.
With this deal we can’t hide them in local leagues. They have to play in the VFL, which is part of the problem.

You’d hope there is a new recruiting officer. The last one was down at the pub for 15 years.

If they are trying to get players in based on this agreement, why would they come if we just re-neg on it under the guise that no-one was good enough this year?

If we want the agreement to work we need to show that we are for real with it.

Most irrelevant question ever.

Is Membrey UFA or DFA..?

He should qualify as both having been at the club for more than 8 years and also come to the club after being delisted by Swans.

Jesus christ, the kent looks 50 years old.

He's been DFA since we signed him, could've jumped ship any time he came out of contract to the club of his choice.

It’s not designed to fund top ups 😂

The link and Rookie offer is supposed to entice the young stars that missed out in the U18s or the best from leagues like the Smnl EFL Vafa etc

The club needs to take a zebs player and not look for a loophole this year and show that it is genuine in its offering.

What are you laughing at? Your inability to read and your lack of basic comprehension?

The reason we are uncompetitive is because we don't pay for quality players. We top up with kids and cheapies.

I'm not talking anything about the rookie deal. Generally Sandy are shit because if we have injuries to our St Kilda listed players the talent pool is super thin.

If you want kids to learn to play in a competitive second tier side you fund the top ups better or at least older second tier talent.

It's nice that basic people get to post like the rest of us but having to respond to you is tiresome.

How I’m hoping we set up

OUT (8) Battle, Ross, Bonner, Van Es, Allison, Campbell, Membrey, Paton

Pick Trade 1 - STK P7, P8 for NM P2, F2

Pick Trade 2 - STK F1 (7) F2 (25) for FREM P14 FREM F3 (45)

IN (8) Macrae, O’Sullivan (2), Hotton (14), Dodson/Sims/Gerreyn (32), Ough (47), Hofmann (R), Cole (R), Peckett (R)

*We retain Hotton, Hayes on 1 year deals unless we find a more practical DFA or collect another draft pick.

Would’ve preferred to keep Membrey but ship looks to have sailed. Hotton pretty lucky but another year is fair enough all things considered.

People will say let’s do the freo trade first and try and keep 7 by packaging 8,14 but that’s not going to get us pick 2 I don’t think. Can always ask North but more likely we do the above trades.

Following above, St.Kilda Rd 1 2025

HB: Wanganeen-Milera Howard Sinclair
