Correct, but we don't know if his contract is back-ended. It's 25% so top 11 or 12.Restricted free agent puts him in the top % of earners at the club.
Hayward could have a heavily back ended deal. George Hewett had one in his final year with the Swans. Swans tried to move him on because of it but he stayed and left as RFA.It's interesting because if you look at the team that played on the weekend, he's on a higher salary than more than half of the team but I don't think he's in the top 10 best players in that team.
In no particular order, I'd have the following players ahead of him in skill or importance to the team
Heeney
Warner
Gulden
Adams
Grundy
Papley
McCartin
Blakey
Mcdonald
Rowbottom
Florent
Mcinerney
Roberts
McLean
That puts him at about 15th and that doesn't include Rampe, Parker or Mills. So of that list, he's earning more than about 5 of those players (potentially more than) who are more important or skilful than he is. So imo he is the expendable one. He will likely have to take a pay cut to stay in red and white next year because there are others earning less than him right now that deserve more.
Florent is definitely on less as he is not a RFA. But again, we don't know the terms of their contracts. It's interesting because if you look at the team that played on the weekend, he's on a higher salary than more than half of the team but I don't think he's in the top 10 best players in that team.

You are correct, but that's all the info we have to go off. So if he wants to stay, chances are he'll be getting paid less next year and that's not something that's easy to do, stay at your job doing the same thing you did previously and get paid less for it. I know I wouldn't stay.Correct, but we don't know if his contract is back-ended. It's 25% so top 11 or 12.

Yep, good pick up. It's possible florent was front loaded, but as you say, no way of knowing this.Florent is definitely on less as he is not a RFA. But again, we don't know the terms of their contracts.
Hopefully we can retain them all but he's the one most likely to be a target. We regularly lose best XXII players - it’s inevitable. To think otherwise is folly.
My gut instinct is that Hayward is perhaps most likely to be this year’s Aliir / Dawson / Hewett.
Hayward one of our highest paid players is ridiculous in itself.Hayward is one of our highest paid players. I can't see Zurhaar costing us a crazy amount

We don't have a readymade replacement. Parker only half of his skillset. Mills more likely to go down back. McInerney the most likely IMO, more so than Campbell.

He would not affect Our inside midfield of Parker Mills Warner Heeney or Adams as he pretty much runs on the outside. Having said that I have never been a huge fan.Probably, although I don't think our midfield is that special that we couldn't fit in a good player. Especially someone who has an excellent finals record.

I doubt we want to move him on BUT...There is no reason to lose him tho? its utterly our own doing if we wanna move him on like we did with Rohan/Hewett.
At least we could use our end of 1st round pick for himIf we don't re-sign Hayward but trade in Zurhaar it will cost us money. If Hayward wants to leave OK, but if he wants to stay I absolutely struggle to see the sense in such a move. A compensation pick will not help us in the short term. How is Zurhaar defensively? Yeah nah!
I saw what you did there! At least we could use our end of 1st round pick for him
I would put that in the same class of s**tf***ery as when we traded picks with Hawthorn and then used our new pick to take their NGA player (Vickery?).I saw what you did there!

Pure genius. Nek minnit AFL BAN.That was hilarious still love us hiding picks with WCE with the Blakey bid, getting Nick and then trading in to get Rowbottom. That was my favourite.
#1 midfield trio in the AFL according to champion data
... I believe it
Wouldn't mind facing the Port boys while they're in form
Need talls
More of a love / hate.Everyone loves this thread.
I love it. Love the idea of list/team building, figuring out gaps, projecting where we'll be in the future.More of a love / hate.
We all gravitate here when the team plays badly and obsess over things we have no way of changing.
Spot on.I love it. Love the idea of list/team building, figuring out gaps, projecting where we'll be in the future.
People do jump the gun a bit sometimes. I know I've lost it over not addressing clear needs before on draft night (last year was fine), though it was years in the making.
Personally, I think we've made attempts at addressing both short and long term needs in the last year (via the MSD and end of year draft/trade). Now we wait to see if the "depth" or the young kids show something throughout the year, before knowing what we need to do the most.
Amartey, or Buller, might kick on, Logan extends and then no-one is talking about KPFs anymore (personally I think we need 4, even 5 on the list since our depth rucks aren't great up forward, so there is room to replace Reid). Snell does play both ends.
Sheldrick, Cleary, Magor even, might be banging down the door, if not at least looking promising, with Jordon settled and in form, thus quietens the inside mid clamour.
Someone e.g. Kirk or Vickery (as foretold on his draft night) might get played and look decent in a small defender role. Probably the area where we don't have players earmarked in reserves.
Maybe Wicks returns and settles in the 22, Konstanty keeps kicking 2 or 3 per week in ressies and small forward looks better.
Maybe Arnold or Francis or Edwards strings some form together, with Snell impressing and we can just look to replace any outgoing KPDs rather than a complete restock. Cochran is a likely get from the academy.
Of course, it could all go downhill, but we don't really know just yet.
