Is Florent worth much trade wise?
We have Gulden, Campbell, McInerney, Lloyd, Roberts all able to replicate what he does.

Do we send him down to Norf with Parker and get something decent back? Pick 24 for the both?

Need a wing/defender option with some size about them.

On what planet would we send Florent and Parker to get a second rounder which would be 32+ when all things are settled? Florent is one of our top 10 non-trade able players

Should be targeting Joe Berry with our first pick.

Small forward who plays as a medium, great kick for goal and can apply pressure as well.

Looks like a proper lead up forward as well.

Desperately need some class up there alongside Papley:

Close to the best kick in the draft too

Stuey Dew knocked back a offer from the swans to come back as a assistant
Probably doesn’t want to be in Sydney. Seems to be a problem getting experienced assistants to relocate to Sydney.

Trading Florent for a draft pick only makes sense if we plan on rebuilding

I don't want to trade in any big names. I want to use pick 24 on an athletic 190 cm defender/wing.
An option like Schoenmakers from last year. Ok heck it, lets just get the actual Schoenmakers. LOL

He is the kind of option our list doesn't have atm. And probably needs.

You want to trade Florent who will play let’s say 250 games at a minimum for Archie Schoenmakers who has barely played a game and has off field issues? We are NOT trading Ollie Florent

Given their ages, I’d move Lloyd on (just turned 31) rather than any of those.

That’s not meant to be disrespectful to Lloyd, just makes more sense as others can cover his role and have a far longer playing career in front of them.

Another I liked in that draft year. WC fans not very positive on him but they are/were trying to turn him into a KPD.

Look it would be all price but a late 3rd I’ll take a punt

Perryman seems OK, I'd pay that pick to bring him in. Battle is ludicrous though, barely 1st round value

My main issue with Perryman is what position is he? He’s just a meh utility

Not that I want to trade Florent but geez top 10 non tradeable players is a stretch. There are plenty of Ollie Florents running around the comp.

Uranus.

I think Florent's in a position where we have depth, but I'd definitely want a better pick for he and Parker.

And I’d just send Parker to north and keep a top 10 player in our squad in Ollie thanks

List our players and he’d be in our top 10 surely

I get thats its a hypotheticals thread but can we atleast have a touch of realism. Florent would need to accept to be traded and if thats the case you can pretty much say goodbye to Hayward one of his best mates. It would cause chaos in the whole club so all that for an extra draft pick. Like atleast a touch of realism would be nice

I would have Heeney, Rowbottom, Gulden, Warner, Blakey, Grundy, McInerney, Cunningham, Mills and Papley ahead of him. I don't know if Lloyd and Rampe are better than Florent anymore but they certainly perform comparatively. Jordon wouldn't be far off.

But it's not even necessarily about who is 'best' but more who you wouldn't trade. They are the players who are the best or most valuable or irreplaceable at something. Florent is one of many outside flanker types we have on our list and probably not even the best of them.

Again, not saying I would trade him.

“Remove the compensation entirely, you've had the player for 8 years and you haven't been able to convince them to stay. But you've had eight years of service, which is double than the normal career length."

- Damian Barrett

Moat sensible thing he has ever said.
Yep it would also help player movement imo as more clubs would be trading pre-agents. Even to the point that we should be reducing it to a simple FA model (either in contract or out of contract).

With GC and Brisbane academies now heaving with talent I feel like the Swans are in the position that the North Syd Bears, Easts, Newtown and Balmain found themselves in NRL. Areas too wealthy for families, and especially the kinds of families that play and excel in footy.

Plenty of young families left Melbourne in the period 2000 onwards for cheaper housing and more space.
We got none of them. QLD got a heck of a lot of them.

Given we hold no advantage of the Vic teams in go home factor. And very little in the academy compared to the above two...We are going to struggle to get over the line in a GF, even with the kinds of players we have in our first team currently. Our VFL team is also weak possibly indicating not much depth IDK, maybe it's purpose is not to wing games but to develop kids....and that'd be ok too.

How to overcome the above....is to get MUCH better at drafting first round picks I guess. Starting this year. And playing young players, rather than playing the likes of Francis who might scrape us the odd win being solid-ish, but not get us where we need to go in the medium term.

Draft a KPD or two, a KPF with acceleration and power, and give them games early, or time for Snell & Edwards. Ready or not. I'd rather get into the 8 in 7th spot having blooding some talent that might develop into high end that wins us the ultimate, than qualify 3rd and fail again. Throw Sheldrick into that mix too. If he's not playing preseaon in the midfield we need a new coach pronto.

I agree that I'd like to see a better return on our 1st rounders, and I'm hopeful that Konstanty extends and takes that next step with us.
I wouldn't panic about our Academy to be honest.

We have a massive Academy zone, with access to a few million people all up and down the coast, though I'm not sure of the adult to child breakdown amongst that number. 3 of Brisbane's 4 pickups in the last few years have been F/S rather than academy. It's just Marshall this year that is an Academy kid. Payne, Andrews, both Coleman boys were all late pick ups.

Gold Coast have invested massively in their Academy and are getting their just rewards for doing so. We just haven't found any elite talent/have lost some to other sports, that's the way the cookie crumbles, but we're still regularly producing players from the Academy, They just haven't been at that elite point yet. But that's not the end of the world, even if they just pump out depth players for a few years that take up the 20-30 spots on our list, those are depth players we don't have to search for.

Each to their own but no way is Cunningham ahead at the very least.

Period not trading guys we’ve signed for z4 plus although Blakey and his let’s just say booze turnovers pushes me
