Just wondering if the Swans' recruiting team have turned up for trade week?

Maybe:
1. They're satisfied with the current list, or

2. Paying close to the maximum of the salary cap and have no funds for any new established recruits?

Either way, what a disappointing period it has been so far!
That is what we do. We disappoint in the trade period. We also disappoint in GFs.

I wasn't expecting much, given we just made a grand final, we re-signed a whole heap of players this season, there aren't really any 'big names' on the move this year.

But man it is just so deflating to hear us be linked to fringe players like Riley Garcia and Finn Maginness and not even be able to get them across to us. Or not being invested enough in getting them across to us.

So trade period is nearly over and as it stands, we've not improved our list in any way. If Parker and Konstanty are traded, then we've only succeeded in making our list worse, and the hope then turns to whatever 18 year olds we pick up in the draft.

Oh, and the expected improvement of players already on our list. But I don't know why our club would be confident in that realm. Have they watched our VFL side?

Honestly I haven't seen a player AVAILABLE TO US who would improve us. Unlike last year. Apart from a few the cattle have been very so-so.

Collingwood already have not much in the u23 section of their list and go to the draft with 52 55 and 58 if im correct?
Literally in 2025 their u26 section will have only 4 best 22 players in it

So Carlton won the trade period?

They had pick 12 at the start of the trade period.
Sent their 2025 first and second rounders to Hawthorn for pick 14.
On-traded 12 and 14 for pick 3.
So two firsts and a second rounder for pick 3.

That seems to me to be a fairly hefty price to pay in what is considered a good quality deep draft.

They are now left with picks 3 and four picks in the 60s/70s and no first rounder in 2025.
(They swapped their 2024 2nd rounder for Brisbane's 2025 2nd rounder)

Player taken at pick 3 would want to be good.

They also got points for the 2 Camporeale twins and cleared a list space with Owies, who would have been due a pay rise. Kennedy will go as well, so cap saved and list space opened up.

DeKoning either re-signs or refills their draft hand next year. Played it fairly well I would have thought.

Would Garcia and Maginness look at us and see opportunity though?

Especially Maginness. We just got a hybrid who is a good tagger last year.

Not sure losing Konstanty changes things either way. Parker in some games possibly, but with a fit Mills and hopefully Sheldrick, it may be better.

This , i don't really know why we had to do something with no space with the stupid re signing to big money for some good average players

Who have we been linked to that would improve us. I don't like this "we don't do enough in the trade period to ........blah blah blah". We are one of the most successful clubs because we don't win trade periods.

Losing GFs is not linked to doing dumb deals in trade week. Winning trade week goes a long way to not getting to GFs. Trading two first rounders for a good mid is dumb to me. You could get two good ones in a draft. Clubs are trading to get instant credibility. Swans draft long term and don't waste multiple draft picks especially on mids. Mids are a dime a dozen. They are littered all over every draft. Any club that pays more than one draft pick for a mid is desperate. For credibility.

Two picks or more for a KPF I can understand.

Swans think long term. Long term drafting/trading = stability.

Lots of other clubs chase short term credibility. It can be fleeting and self defeating.

We have exactly one small forward in the forward line. Garcia would absolutely have had an opportunity. Certainly more than, say, James Jordon would've seen looking at our wing rotations of Errol Gulden and Justin McInerney.

Re Jordon, he is great at tagging, but predominantly with outside players. He got slipped too easily when given inside mids. We don't really have one player in the 22 who can play inside and shut an opposition mid down. Horse persists with Rowbottom with this from time to time and wears the consequences each time. Maginness could've been perfect for that. Sure, there is Mills, who would be ahead of him. But Mills is starting to become injury-prone, and it sure would've been nice to have Mills AND Maginness. Now it is just Mills. Just like with the small forwards, it is just the group we already have, no other options now.

I'd have liked us to try to gain more baskets to put our eggs inside of. (That's what he said.)

If you're going to tag a mid, play the tagger at the bounce. Which we didn't really do with Jordon, so not sure it's all his fault.

Maybe a 2nd tagger would be good, but hard to see us squeezing out someone else for this.

Garcia probably also saw us refusing to play Campbell forward for the most part, Cleary handling himself well then dropped, Corey doing ok and dropped. Sure, he should think he can beat any of those to the spot, but is also just as realistic that we fill the Parker spot with Adams.

Take 6 to the draft. Tell the seagulls to fuch off. Simple.

Is Rioli that much better than Baker? Houston is clearly better. So, why 6?

Noble cost the Pies zilch. He's not better than Neal-Bullen. So, why anything better than 23?

I like GC. But Port Adelaide need to save them by refusing to accept the crap on offer for Houston.

Lombard will be bid on before pick 6. Useless taking it to the draft.

Nothing's happening, so here's a question for folks.

If you could clone three current Swans players so there was two of them in the side, who would you choose?
Clone 3 to get 2? So we are cross breeding? I like it.

In that case I'm cloning Grundy, Warner & Heeney together and putting two of that clone into the team.

Undefeated Premiers would be the result of having two 6'8" really fast guys with incredible balance, contested ball winning and marking.

I guess my point is that they would be options.

So that if Cleary needs a rest, or Adams is injured, or a tall needs to be dropped, or an opposition mid is getting off the chain and Mills is needed in defence... whatever other scenario could easily unfold in footy... we have options on the list so that things don't have to turn to shit, or Horse & co don't have to keep playing the same structures or role that aren't working.

Let's see. I doubt it but we'll find out soon enough.

This would be the time, player and team to dare the top 5 to take him. I'd sit tight and mention the go-home factor. No one is blowing a top 5 in this draft on a flight risk. Richmond now have 3 1st rounders to choose from in next year's draft, tough sh!t for holding out, 6 now off the table. C'mon GC, you can do it!

I Would put money on him being bid post GC pick 6

Silly taking the risk when you can trade out and still get him with junk selections was an awful system thankfully it’s changing

Yeah, they'd be options sure.

But I'm thinking of it from their perspective.

Like with others such as Kennedy whose partner is likely from Vic and they have a young family, so he'd stay at Blues or go to another Vic club.

Has to be a clear spot and/or some other reason.

For Grundy it was to be clear #1 ruck, Adams saw an opening in our midfield (before Heeney ruined that a bit) and wasn't entirely happy with the Pies, Jordon was a childhood Swans fan who may have been sold on the idea of a tagging role (we'd also just come off a mediocre year, and he didn't have Heeney or Adams or a Maginness to flip it, to think about yet).
