So smug and entitled are the Geelong-supporting media pundits (Mafiosi) that when an unexpected Finals loss occurs, the mask of graciousness usually slips.

Two shameful cases in point: Anthony Hudson on FIRST CRACK last night, who could barely contain his dismay and had to be consoled by David King. And Fairfax Media football scribe, Andrew Wu, who wrote a GFC press release disguised as a news article, listing all the excuses Chris Scott made — but didn’t make — in his unedifying press conference.

Andrew Wu is a Swans supporter. He is a bog average journalist too.

Last night was brilliant. Thought the Cats had them, kicking goals out of their arses like they did on Easter Monday. Losing Holmes ruined them, he was destroying Brisbane, then Danger was either thinking too much about his impending suspension (can't believe the commentators stating that McLuggage's head didn't hit the ground!) or that knee to his back impeded him, he was awful in the last quarter.

Hopefully the lions get up next week
In hindsight it's no surprise that a good side was able to spread them on a bigger ground and attack them through the corridor more.
This is how you beat them , I think a lot of sides still get drawn into their aura ( Port week 1 case in point)

We should be able to absolute make a game of it next Easter Monday . We have the weapons now that should give them issues rather than us worrying about them as much .

Thought Wu was a Sydney supporter

It's funny, it used to be that journalists who had enough of the meat grinder at work would take cushy jobs in PR land as they wound down to retirement.

Wu genuinely seems like a PR hack who stepped across to 'journalism'.

The channel 7 post game interview with Dangerfield was laughable.

‘We’re proud we are able to contend every year’ when in fact no club has lost more finals than Geelong in the last 15 years and the so called best coach in the competition has a 50% finals win record.

The media love fest for them is laughable and watching them slide into obscurity with a top heavy age list from next year will be glorious

F#ck them

They know. It's all about flags. The rest is just window dressing.

the fact Isaac Smith won the Norm Smith made it insufferable. Sad to have his legacy tainted
This was the only thing that got me through it. Just kept telling Geelong supporters that after years of failing they needed a Hawks champion to get them over the line.

You're a weird dude. It was said when Geelong were 26 points up and looking the goods. You then troll me once Brissy are back in it and again after the game. Good for you.

Anyway I'm very glad the Lions are through. Couldn't stomach the chance of another Cats flag.

I said it when Geelong were up. Brisbane out played them the entire match except on the scoreboard, the dam had to break.

I thought Brisbane were the best team last year, so It's good to see them get another shot at redemption.

It's worth noting that Chris Fagan took over an uncompetitive sinking ship of a club and transformed them into a perennial contender. There would be no more deserving coach in the AFL to lift the Premiership Cup.
You make a good point, it's east to forget just how terrible Brisbane were when Fages took over.

Shows how important getting the right man at the top is, things can change very quickly if you nail that choice without any of that 5 year rebuild rubbish you here talked about.

He backs his players in 100%, be nice to see him get rewarded for that.

The Cats and their fans really are the kings of making excuses- all I’ve heard about today is they lost because of Holmes hamstring, a coach who fainted, gastro, Covid 19 and Brisbanes lucky fortune that their ruckman got injured and fluked Daniher getting into the game because of it. They are such a bunch of **** heads- they don’t realise how fortunate they’ve been to have Dangerfield at the ripe old age of 49 fit and firing every year finals time, relying on guys who should be washed up at old ages defying gravity and getting through.
I’d be interested to see how they whinge and cry if next year they actually had a season of injuries like Brisbane has and how they’d cope with it.

The other key is to lower your eyes and have shallow forward entries. Get the ball on the ground and Geelongs elite marking defenders start to shit themselves. Brisbane did that magnificently in the 2nd half. Stewart was having a party in the first half.

I don't know where this narrative came from that Chris Scott is the best coach of the last decade. He's won 1 flag since 2014 and made another Grand Final. The flag that he "won" in 2022 was also one of the worst premierships in recent years whereby every team fell over or were crippled by injuries for him to win.

So for reference:

  • Clarkson x2 flags (2014, 2015)
  • Beveridge x1 flag (2016) + 1 GF (2021)
  • Hardwick x3 flags (2017, 2019 and 2020)
If losing prelims is a metric for success then Eade must be one of the all time great coaches for all those prelim losses between 08-10.

Geelong always get all the accolades.

Hawthorn get the premierships 😉

It’s so tired and disconnected with reality. I actually don’t know anyone who follows footy in Victoria who supports rival Victorian teams once their own team is out. Literally none. Much prefer an interstate side that is largely irrelevant to our lives win than a despised local rival.

I realised this when we made the GF in 2012 and assumed most Victorians would support us over Sydney. Umm, no.... that didn't happen (they hate us 'cos they 'aint us).

For me it's more nuanced. I don't mind seeing a Vic team that hasn't won a flag for a while get one and I actually wanted the Pies to win last year because I liked their style of footy (would've have been happy for Lions to win as well, no strong feelings either way). Obviously I don't want Cats or Bombers to ever win though.

I think the other states hate Victoria/Victorian teams way more than we hate them.
