It's an interesting move, there's obviously a lot happening behind the scenes that we will see eventuate in the coming days but it does look like this move is going to hurt West Coast and their ability to bring in others.

Didn't think our original offer was unreasonable, so happy for them to take the L and have to reshuffle their whole trade period I'd this is in fa t the play.

I reckon that's close to the mark.
It's just part of the strategy to get Barrass and not to overpay for him (and the pick swap with Carlton has probably been done wth WC's input).
There's no way we've given up on Barrass.

If we really could have given 14 and our f1 for Barrass and the eagles f2 coming back then it makes no sense to trade 2 first rounders and end up with Carlton’s f2 instead of the eagles

Yep if the offer of 14+ F2 for Barras + F3 means we value Barrass slightly higher than pick 14. So pick 14 and a slight slide on picks in the 30s. (if ladder positions repeat would be 32 and 39) i.e pick 14 and a token swap to make you feel like you win.

His not worth 2 future first and hawks have essentially confirmed as much given the deal wasnt done before this

Think we just trade those two picks to WC now so essentially pick 14 = Barass and WC get the two picks they want albeit one being a little later in the draft

*this would be dependant on WC obtaining it from Richmond via trade

We'd be acquiring Barrass, pick 26, pick 51 + F2 (via Carlton) for our F1 + F1 (via Carlton). Barrass shores up our backline and we have picks 26, 33 + 51 in the upcoming draft. We obviously don't have a 1st rounder in 2025 but we'd still have our own and Carlton's 2nd rounder.

I'm not sure of the forecasted strength of the 2025 draft but if it's seen to not be as strong as this years would we be content with having 2 bites of the cherry in the 2nd round this year's whilst also brining in Barrass as well?

Come on mate, still with the 2 F1's line even after you have seen MM stand firm on 14 being the right price for Barass and willing to come down to F2 and F3 swap.

Not directed at you per se Bugs1977 but at all those wanna be list managers who wanted to give 2 first rounders to get Barass, pls note. The job is easy if you are going to overpay.

The quality ones try to do deals that benefit the club and that means getting head around complex stuff, playing poker., having plan B/C/D in play.

Actually not a great deal IMO and only works if you think Blues won't be Top 4 at bare minimum. Given their desperation for Houston, I think their pick 34 could have been wrangled. Maybe let them keep their F2 and take the Lions F2+34

But whats done is done. Blues now have 12+14 for Houston which is surely overs, so i am thinking they get Port's 39 back.

We didn’t want to pay our f2 outright. Why after one trade would we know give away our f1 instead?
