I’m perplexed as to how Morris has been able to play an entire season and hasn’t really dropped off
He did get subbed out of one or two flat-ish games. And I reckon the pre-finals bye was perfect for someone like him as he was starting to slow a little in the last few weeks. Really excited to see what he becomes as looks to have some real weapons

You and me both. Nothing about him makes sense. A 20+ goal debut season as an 18/19 year old kid who only eats McDonald's is something else.

Just refuses to give up, that kid. The down the line mark in Q4 under enormous pressure was just insane. He pretty much took over the leading target role after Daniher went to ruck and ensured Blicavs didn't have a free run at all the incoming ball. Morris is something else.

To think he's taken over a third tall role wearing wrong sized boots for starters and then ended up playing main lead up key forward in a prelim final is just staggering. Considering Hipwood is playing injured, 18 year old Morris was pretty much our main act in that forward line.

My favourite morris bit was the contest down the line against Blicavs in the 4th that ended up going out of bounds.

On an absolute hiding to nothing, couldn’t run and jump at it and just wrestled and scragged enough to halve it.

That's the amazing thing. Even some senior players will make a big effort and go to ground conceding. He just hangs in there doggedly which can't be taught. He did another one on the wing where he kept the groundball in front of him and made sure it went out of bounds.

Morris will continue to be a major asset as long as he continue to play with that mentality every game.

Do you doubt it? Kid was born to play. Reads the ball, reads the play, reads the game so well. Things that can't be taught.

If Doedee and Gardiner do not recoveri any interest in Lewis Young as a third or fourth option in defence for next year?

Need to make list spots. Who are you turfing out, making sure we have list spots for Levi, Marshall and perhaps one other academy player. Note we are carrying 3 excess due to Mid Season Draft.
It's going to be extremely tight.

Went through my mind too. Could do a lot worse than him, but don't think he'd want to move to be, what, 6th in line?

He'll play plenty of football for someone next year.

Gettable today:

  • Brisbane has had some contact with Matt Owies. Brisbane not considering Jack Martin.
  • Jaxon Prior: Becoming a DFA may make clubs more interested in him. Essendon has had a look at him. One to keep an eye on during trade period and free agency
  • Deven Robertson: Issue with this trade is picks and contract status. Brisbane needs picks in this years draft to get Ashcroft/Marshall, but clubs don't want to give up picks for a contracted player because of the evenness of the draft. There'll be some interest, it's just a matter of what level.

Honestly think Joyce is probably just as good as Young.

Agree. And he’s only 27. We saw what happened with frog. So I’d be keen to keep Joyce as that backup and then target closer to A grader types to replace guys like frog etc.

I'd be very disappointed to lose Jaxon because I do rate him, but could understand why he'd want to leave to get senior opportunities elsewhere
It does feel like he'll be our surprise player that gets delisted when we'd normally offer him an extension, because we need list spots.

I really like Jax. I think he’s a good person, a great team man and clearly can play at the level. I just think though if we get our guys back from ACL then he is going to be a fair way down the pecking order.

From the guys who aren’t playing this weekend and who can play down back (albeit different roles) - Coleman, Gardiner, doedee, Joyce and brain. I’d say he is behind them.

It is going to be extremely difficult for Gardiner and/or Doedee to gain a spot in our backline the way Ryan Lester is playing.

Absolute locks for our defensive 7 for 20255 would have to be if fully fit.... Andrews, Payne, Coleman, Starcevich, Lester, Wilmot and maybe Answerth.

Assuming Zorko goes back up the field, although having Kiddy and Zorks distributing the ball out of the back half would be nigh on impossible for opposition to shut down.

Wilmot to a wing??

Good problem to have, certainly keep the boys on their toes.

I don’t think wilmott will stay down back next year. I don’t think he is playing down back this year by design. Necessity because the injuries.

I also would be loathe to move Zorko from his position he's playing this year and would think he's entrenched into the group of 7 defenders we play each week.

Perhaps we see Zorks coming off the sub bench more (if that's even a thing moving forward in 25). Looking at the stats since its re-introduction in 21, the leading sub by year has been (21) Terry x 8, (22) Mitch Robbo x 4, (23) JL x 7 and (24) Conor McKenna x 4, possibly 5 so even lookin at that its hard to gauge whether the sub is simply the 23rd player or a strategic spot.

Yeah definitely a good point. Could easily see Coleman into half back, Wilmot to wing and Fletcher out of the side.

I still like what Fletcher brings and he will be a player but has had lower impact games across the year.

I doubt Motty will play fat side wing. I think they like him closer around the ball.

I wonder what the thinking would be with Owies - we have Charlie, Kai and Linc to come back.

Froggy is going great, no doubt. Just saying, he's 32 and the game can catch up with some players quite quickly at that age. Not saying it will, but it's a possibility. Birchall started out alright for us but by the time he turned 33 he was regularly being beaten for pace.
