I disagree that we are good at getting it out of defence but I appreciate the alternative opinion. Just look at how we use Ryan for the kick out. If you want to see an elite rebounding side see how the Giants do it. That's the style I want to adopt because it is timeless and very hard to counter if you have the right players to execute it (which we do).
I don't think you can compare general play rebounding with kick-ins. Our back 6/7 are very good at slingshotting it out via handball chains around the back of the contest to a kicker who can gain some territory. That's what Taylor is referring to, imo, not the kick-in strategy. In both cases, though, having a reliable contested mark to receive the kick out of D50 adds a massive boost to forward thrusts.

That's a bit nonsensical. They're completely different players - Sturt will never be your run, chase, harass type. He's 190cm for start, more like Jack Gunston.

They're obviously two very different players who play very different roles. doesnt mean Sturty cant chase and tackle beacuse some of his best games were when he's done just that and snagged a goal or two (Port Adelaide, Bulldogs games come to mind)

I'm not sure about that, I think the AFL were quite frustrated that he went to the Swans instead or GWS
Yes they were, but I read that they made him an ambassador, which, I am sure they would have regardless of which club he went to there in Sydney.

Cal on gettable reporting we have a war chest in picks and salary for next year.......Butters, Gulden, Ugle-Hagan, McDonald out of contract

Realistically there’s only one bloke who’s a chance to come here out of that lot. Let’s hope he has a break out and wants out 🙏🏼

Yes, no, yes.

Serong is a weird comparison. He's a fast and skilled utility. He gets a game at 18/18 clubs.

He'd be a forward that pushed into the middle for us if I were guessing.

If he has speed and comes at the right price, good. I know the tigers fans on here often talk about his bad DE.

I'll take 1 Butters, 1 Gulden and 1 of the other 2.

Might as well mail the cup over with them too.

Cheers.
Cal more to the point said we are red hot into McDonald and will also have a crack at adding another player or two via trade and/or free agency both local and interstate.

I’d expect we are targeting someone via free agency. Without knowing much at all the following names in free agency would be worth keeping an eye on:
Andrew McGrath (wing)
Ben Ainsworth (fwd/mid)
Cam Zurhaar (med fwd)
Todd Marshall (KPF)
Ollie Florent (wing)

Not sure any of those are worth the exorbitant salary required to convince them to head west (and their clubs take the compo over matching).

Zurhaar maybe, as he does have genuine match turning traits. But his consistency would be the concern. And he doesn't strike me as the type to want to play for us. Seems like one of those "Perth is boring, I love Melbourne" types.

The gettable guys specifically talked about the last name on my list and said that Swans have their work cut out retaining all their players out of contract. Guess after getting all these free academy handouts like Gulden and co. Salary cap issues pop up. Same thing will affect GCS in a few years when their young stars from this ND come out of contract and they have to again give away players for next to nothing (aka Bowes, Brodie, Wright).

Florent would be handy FA pick-up in my opinion.

Based on what?

I am interested to know how we have a big enough war chest to go after 2-3 big targets after signing Jackson, Amiss, Serong Ryan & Young in the last 12 months and about to sign Darcy.
Added that Bradshaw needs an extension soon.

We've all seen some the bad consequences of our young leaders sit up straight and do your homework club (leaking square pegs).
I think this is one of its advantages: they have all signed for a little less than they could have got open market. Gives a little leeway. Particularly when you combine it with a couple of, ahem, unplanned departures of players on genuine best 22 money.
I think two big plays is fanciful though, one maybe.

Based on what?

Well for starters he is massively into cooking (says it his passion/obsession) and looking to start a restaurant in Melbourne, and these hipster foodie types would favour Melbourne over Perth. Yes, there are hipsters and foodies everywhere, but most of them would put Melbourne on a pedestal over Perth.

And I'm sure over the years he has made comments to the effect of how much he likes Melbourne and wants to stay there. And after his childish feud with JHF after he left, gonna look a bit silly if he leaves North to go home.

Rumour was we were shredding cap space for Angus Brayshaw. No idea if correct. Would explain the lowball offers for Acres/Logue. We started to increase our offer for Logue but too late and North blew that out of the water. We were prepared to just let Acres go.

This year we are replacing Hamling with DFA McDonald from VFL, possibly rookie list Sharp as replacement for Henry (who would have received pay increase) and then replace Wilson and Colyer with National draft first year players. We also lost Shultz and will replace with ND or Rookie Draft player.

Also the cap has increased.

I’m ok with a couple of new players coming in.
