Peak Tabs…why someone like McDonald or Cox is necessary

Treacy has good footy smarts, this play worked out fine. Tabs is like a greyhound chasing a rabbit, but everyone else knows how he plays and can work around it. If Tabs continues to play his role well, he has to stay in the team. Thankfully he’s surrounded by some smart footballers.

Truth be told it was a pretty soft free kick. Wouldn't be expecting that on the weekend.

As soon as Darcy is good to go Tabs will be running around like a greyhound at Peel. I’ve been mildly surprised at his form and efforts though so is a handy back-up. Luke Jackson will fit in with the forward mix. Otherwise big Darcy might spend short mins standing as a rock in the goal square just to mix things up. I can’t see Jackson getting in the way of Amiss and Treacy.

I can see Darcy getting subbed out a few times, as he builds his fitness.

Any interest in Will Hayward as a FA?

Definitely better than our other HF options, bar Freddie

We work now to replace Fyfe, Walters and Pearce and Ryan…

And when the time’s right they need to be encouraged to move on

We have a very solid and young core…we can cut hard when we need to on the fringes
Fyfe > Erasmus
APearce > Davies
Ryan > could it be Draper? (Trent Rivers in a year or two??)
Walters > Delearn (I’d like us to draft a small forward with a pick in top 30)

Yes I think Davies is projecting very well.

I’m unsure about Erasmus, but feel
Like he could easily be getting the opportunity to replace someone like O’Meara soon

Delean is a good prospect and Draper looks awesome.

We have a great list that is developing well.
We either bring in McDonald and Baker this year who are instant best 22 or we can develop the three first rounders we have.

Really comfortable where it sits currently.
Someone like Emmett could drop onto the rookie list this year too

Right now looking at the list:

Brodie could be traded. Be worth a second or so for someone like West Coast. After Kelly he’d be their best extractor
Kuek and Corbett delist.

Erasmus? If he doesn’t start claiming a spot soon…if offers came around 10-20 I’d be inclined to take it. Especially if it was a future pick.

Reidy is a trade or delist.

Hughes? Maybe one more year. If Chapman gets fit and we have Draper and Cox, Hughes is depth only.

the other interesting one is O’Driscoll.

The bloke has been constantly injured and his form has been ordinary. IMO he’s on very thin ice.

Hughes should get 1 more year, at worst he is good depth.

The rucks are interesting, probably 1 of them needs to go.

What about Taberner? Do we need him as a backup key forward?

I think 1 or 2 players we will be delisted than we come out of the blue, as we need at least 4 picks, and I think we will take 5.

These players are out of contract at the end of the year. We need at least 4 picks, more than likely 5.

Keep
Bailey Banfield
Ethan Hughes
Tom Emmett
Likely Keep
Corey Wagner
Ethan Stanley
Patrick Voss

Needs a good year

Sam Sturt
Matt Taberner
Max Knobel
Odin Jones
Nathan O'Driscoll
Conrad Williams
Liam Reidy

Likely Delist
Sebit Kuek
Josh Corbett

meh just sounded like he said what he had to say to me, wouldnt read into it. also said still in discussions with other clubs
Sounded like a never say never response. But I will say it sounds like a close to done deal with Sydney

.

If you don’t mind me weighing in on Erasmus, I think the very best possible outcome for Freo is to find a spot for him in the team and for him to stay.

Your estimation is on the very high end in my opinion.

Erasmus is outside Freo’s B23 and currently playing in the 2’s, in his 3rd year with a year to run on his contract. He’s playing well in WAFL but his AFL form doesn’t warrant a place in the team, and he hasn’t shown his credentials as a top 10 pick when he has been given opportunity at AFL level.

There are some comparable trades in the last few years that would indicate Erasmus would net a 2nd rounder. Likely something with a 2 in front of it.

Let’s take a look at how Freo have valued players in a similar situation to Erasmus:

Jordan Clark
Pick #14, rising star nominee. 19 games in his first year before falling out of favour at Geelong.

21 & 3rd rounder for Clark and 4th

Jeremy Sharp
Pick #27 but GCS knowingly offered pick 11 for him. Kept out of the team by Ellis. Played VFL and was regularly among the best performers.

Freo offered a 3rd and trade talks ended when Freo baulked at Gold Coasts request for a 2nd round pick.

Erasmus is more likely to stay than leave in my opinion. I find it hard to see him requesting a trade out of WA, and a trade between Freo and West Coast would be difficult to envision, but if Erasmus was to request a trade (to anywhere) Freo would get less than what many on this board expect or hope for.

Brodie won't be worth a second. Yes, he is contracted, but getting his salary (albeit only low/moderate) off our books would be part of it. We wouldn't get anything more than chump change. WC won't use their 2nd and don't have a 3rd. At this stage it would be their 4th, which is basically a junk pick in the range where clubs are passing.

As for Erasmus, you have to ignore where he was drafted. He's only getting 10-20 if he was actually in the side and performing well. And if that is the case, then he probably wants to stay and we wouldn't want to trade him. If he plays the year out in the WAFL and asks for a trade, the best we can hope for is a 2nd rounder that is going to be in the 30's with all the compo picks, F/S, NGA, etc.
