What the heck, why don't we throw in a couple of premiership medals for a par score?I wish I could share your optimism - I just don't think it's terribly realistic.
I will, however, be very happy to be proven wrong!

My hope would be that he plays 3 years at his current level (I think that’s realistic), then 2 years with a lesser output/roleHe’s barely missed a game for years and is one of the fittest/hardest trainers out of any club. There is zero reason to think he couldn’t play almost every game for the next 4-5 years. Sports science is miles better these days too and we have one of the best in Burgess. There isn’t some sudden fall off a cliff after 30 these days for a lot of players, especially the ones that are super professional like ANB.
Unless he gets a freak injury, I think he’s a very strong chance of playing 100+ games at the club.
His biggest asset will be allowing Rankine to do what Petracca did and become an 80:20 mid/forward, that cannot be understated. It would 100% be one of the major reasons we pursued him.My hope would be that he plays 3 years at his current level (I think that’s realistic), then 2 years with a lesser output/role
With his fitness levels and training standards, I think that’s both realistic, and would be a win given what we gave up
You talking about Sam Gibson? He’s barely missed a game for years and is one of the fittest/hardest trainers out of any club. We’re talking a 28yo under Darren Burgess, not a 31yo under Matt HassYou talking about Sam Gibson?

The only way we could've taken more players in the draft is by not taking ANB and peatling. Those acquisitions took list spots and more importantly the draft picks.Pretty clear that some recruiters ie. Richmond rate the draft as ‘super’ whereas others don’t ie. us.
It also depends on where your list is at. Freo, for example, prepared to give up two good picks for Bolton as he will have immediate impact rather than two draftees who are a couple of years away from being solid contributors.
I would have liked for us to move on a couple more guys and taken a couple more draftees. Or at least another one. We look like having at least two retirements next year and some easy delists.
I do.You don’t draft a player hoping he’d only play 800-100 games though, you’re hoping you draft well and find a 200 game plus player
You could have just edited it for meI do.
I hope every player* plays between 100 and 800 games.

Wow, your glass is less than half empty!! All the pundits have given our list management either a B or A for this year's trade period.
If you'd watched GWS' finals games you would know that Peatling is a very good trade. We need mature leaders who will actually play well consistently(unlike Laird, Smith, Murphy - tell me when to stop!) & ANB is obviously a born leader if you watch his interviews. We need more speed around the ground - Peatling & Cumming have real speed & ANB will run an opponent into the ground with his stamina - think Duracell bunny. Plus, all three have finals experience.
I have been critical of the footy department, but they know a bit about the game in fairness - but yes, we can do better.
I really hope we don't bring him to the club.Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Sam Draper a RFA next year?
I like him, and he can actually jump off the ground.I really hope we don't bring him to the club.
He isn't that good.
I actually do think this trade period showed big picture direction.Exchanging role players to refresh the list should just be a normal trade period, that doesn't get an A, perhaps because crows fans are so used to reid doing nothing they give it an A
To get an A you need to show a big picture direction imo, so for example Richmond have just shown their intent to rebuilt better in one trade period that we did for the last 5 or if you're in the window like Geelong they've added again with bailey smith in an attempt to try to extend their window
Our big picture direcion was lacking as we finished 15th and yet go into a strong draft with with 1 pick
I would really like a footy smart ruckman again who holds most of their marks & taps to real advantage.I like him, and he can actually jump off the ground.
He doesn't have to be if Essendon do the right thing (for the rest of us) and sign him up to a new long term contractCorrect me if I'm wrong but isn't Sam Draper a RFA next year?
i think they see RT as ROBs replacement and Turray as RTs replacement. There's no other explanation to their actions. He doesn't have to be if Essendon do the right thing (for the rest of us) and sign him up to a new long term contract
David Mackay was well on his wayI do.
I hope every player* plays between 100 and 800 games.

To me those players are supporting acts, a big picture would have been if we're rebuilding trading a player for another pick in a strong draft or if we're contending then trading pick 4 for a player to complement our existing A graders (do we even have one?). But I get your point this trade period was a marked difference from others in adding that supporting actI actually do think this trade period showed big picture direction.
We’ve added three immediate best 22 players in the prime of their careers. This will complement when the Thilthorpe, Soligo, Rachele group hits their prime and will give us a good age range of 20-30 year olds which is important.
We’ve also kept our 4th pick which should land us an A grade player.
I do think we probably should have held onto pick 25 and made the ANB trade work a different way so I wouldn’t give us an A, but otherwise this is a very successful trade period.

i would have taken that for berry tbhWho would be the player you suggest to trade for a top 20ish pick?
I was in the camp that trading Berry might have been a good option to get some draft capital but he would have been pick 30-40 at best.
I get that these players aren’t A graders, but they are significant upgrades on what we have and are proven performers at AFL level. I also think Peatling has a higher ceiling than we might think.
Trade Berry for a pick in the 30-40s, give that for ANB or package it with 45 and later picks and trade up with one of the clubs that needed points to move up a bit.Who would be the player you suggest to trade for a top 20ish pick?

Bloody Hamish can’t even get their names rightI have to wonder about these Draper rumours… and I only say this because I have a little theory…
My source leading up to the trade week, whilst handing out information like candy, made one comment that I corrected them on. We were talking about the draft and they said “you ever heard of a kid called Sam Draper”? To which I replied “you mean Sid?” They looked a little embarrassed and agreed. I’m wondering if said source had been saying as much to others over the previous week and people got confused and added 1+1 and got 3?
