how about preuss as a backup to ROB? same age but way better than strachan.

DFA so costs nothing except a modest pay
Preuss?

I think you're right. The politics would totally destroy us. We are a weak club. No way could we even consider this.
We couldn't even handle a bloke saying Port fans have no teeth in the media.

There is absolutely no chance whatsoever we would gracefully handle the issues facing Tarryn

He was reasonably regarded as a young ruckman I recall but made perhaps the dumbest career move of all time, to Melbourne who had Max Gawn at the start of his prime.

Preuss guaranteed himself no football, put the brakes on his development and basically cost himself any chance of having a career.

If you can't see his dynamics in the midfield ...and around packs ...well I can't help you

You don't need a body of work to see the obvious with players .....the top end talent I mean

Most players are in various stages of development .....so sometimes it's hard to see where they are on the curve ....but not Rankine

Why...do...you...add....dots.....randomly....throughout...your...post?

It's a .... Freestyle Elliptical Expressionistic posting style ... whereby spelling and grammar are optional .....very liberating for the spirit

So, in a few weeks, after Laird finishes top 3 in the B&F for the eighth year in a row, you think any club would only consider him as a salary dump?

Mate, love your posts, this seems like pandering to the Laird haters though.
Or that’s his actual opinion?
Why does everyone need to have the same opinion?

I absolutely love the way he plays.
But he is his own worst enemy and we just can’t risk the spot.
One year of Juicy is likely to include
6 weeks injured.
3 great AFL games.
5 weeks for dumping a player on his head.
3 weeks for an elbow to someone’s jaw.
And 2 of our own players out injured at training. ( He is worse than Muzz )

actually dont rate Laird that highly based on his 2024 form. not sure he can improve from here - certainly hope so but age is against him getting back to previous years form (losing some acceleration from packs etc). that said, he has been a very good player over the years and his ultra consistency as perhaps as good as any other crows player over the journey - albeit at a lower level relative to our absolute champs

thinking about it further its perhaps not as extreme as i said before (Laird plus second rounder plus pay salary) but I am convinced nobody would take him straight up for his reported 750-850k (as per H Sun top 100 paid players recently he came in 54th highest paid in the league). not sure how 'rubbery' these figures are as I would have thought we have front ended all decent sized contracts in recent years .

all moot anyway as cant imagine rory wants to leave SA where I imagine he is comfortably set up and its very unlikely a contending team would take him

They save Dixon money.
They may save Houston money.

More importantly as I have explained to you previously, Port along with the Crows are w of only a handful of clubs that did not build in EB increases into their contracts... which is a huge advantage when the cap has significant increase.
Houston is apparently on a very good deal for Port, hence why he's looking to move. They locked him up long-term on a team friendly deal and then he became an AA player and is getting big offers to move.

he should suck it up. i hope he stays it will deny them any draft capital and render them useless come trade period.

If I was a betting man I think 90% chance Houston is gone.

Why?

- Power clearly want him gone to get into this draft. Talking about 2 x first rounders though is dreaming but they could snag one of Saints top 10 picks assuming Battle earns a tier one FA compo pick.

That said, smart time to trade him as aging but 2 x recent AA in the bank means peak sales price right now.

- As mentioned Houston is contracted for way unders from all reports. He will likely sign a new deal and won’t be say 4 years x 600-650k with Power (my guesstimate) but more likely 800-850x 5 years . Therefore he is chasing the $$

- multiple clubs interested from the scrubbers to big clubs like Blues

Moving players on when they have peak value is something we haven't done very well. McAdam is the only one that comes to mind. It's another component of building a good list.

If they can somehow get him to agree to go to the Kangaroo's and get their future first and something else the Power will be laughing.

I know he's not at his peak but id be shoving Laird out the door. Could easily find a good money deal at a Vic club for a late first round or second round pick. As much as most here wouldnt agree that he's worth that, someone will pay it.

At the end of the day, Houston has to agree to the trade.

100%, even 12 months ago the writing was on the wall.

He is from Victoria and looking to get a good payday

If his manager isnt doing his best to convince him then he isnt doing his jib

I dont know what is keeping Dan here but short term I would advise him to explore everything

Is it success , business or personal - thats all that matters to most footballers with the added $$ caveat

I dont disagree but if its borderline in the pay difference between say a big V Club and North.

Houston will want to go to that Big V Club. IMO.

Will be interesting if Port will accept a late 1st or 2nd for Houston.
