I'm a bit hesitant because he doesn't have a basketball background or is coming from non elite pathways
Is he a December baby?

Yeah, OK, given we have projected 6 Cat A rookies then we must be aiming to have 36 on the Senior list. Which means we pick up 3 at the ND.

Vic Govt is broke. Dekka is in heaven. There are no elite pathways in Vic. They're all cracking and falling into disrepair.

Sims @ #47
Not in top 50:
  • Josh Dolan
  • Charlie Nicholls
  • Floyd Burmeister
  • Charlie West
  • Gabriel Stumpf
  • Clancy Dennis
  • Luke Kennedy (Added for manicpie)
  • Lachie Jaques (Added for Rusty Beam)
Hate to say I told you so (not to you specifically) but I did mention a month ago that writing Sims off as a potential draftee for us based on early power rankings was silly. Suddenly a number of phantoms and power rankings have him in our range.

Turns out that the 25 guys that were guaranteed to be Top 20 draft picks and the 15 bolters that are shooting up into first round calculations are actually not all going to make it into that range.

That's a (lack of) Gross list

That's a (lack of) Gross list
45. Tom Gross
Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro
MID/FWD, 181cm
2024 Champs: 4 games, 20.0 disposals, 5.2 marks, 0.5 goals
Talent League: 8 games, 22.3 disposals, 3.8 marks, 0.9 goals

Gross has suitors higher than this mark. The tough and rugged on-baller has become more of a forward option at this point, playing the majority of his campaign at half forward where his high-flying exploits were a feature. Gross is old school in his attack on the ball and tough temperament, but lacks the skill of others above this mark.

Best traits similar to: Matt Kennedy

Waterman was a Father/Son pick and Harris Andrews was a Brisbane Academy selection, so neither were in the open draft and available to be picked. Goes to show how low the strikerate actually is.

FWIW, North Melbourne bid pick #34 on Harris Andrews and Brisbane were only required to use pick #61 to match that at the time, so he goes down as being the #61 pick, which is completely misrepresentative of fact.
You get the gist of my comment though don't you? 🥴

They've got a second guy to match who might go late in the first round.
Yep, and my guess is that we'll target one of their picks once the bid comes in for Sam Marshall. Likely there's already an agreement in place with the Lions regarding the candidate picks we'll swap for - my guess is 43 or 49 or one of the picks they receive for trading 27 and 34.

Agree with that, except I think most of Brisbane's trading down will happen as soon as the draft opens - before bids on either player.

How does that work?

We all know that Gold Coast put in a bid for Nick Daicos at #4 which we matched with picks #38 etc.

The record shows that Nick Daicos was a pick #4, not a pick #38 etc.

It was a different system - before matching points.

Before trade week began, other clubs could offer a pick for the player. The club with rights to the player decided whether to take the player with their next pick. The player was then described as being drafted with that next pick - the pick that was paid for him. Eg, Dogs bid on Darcy Moore with pick 4? I think. Our next pick was pick 9 - so Darcy is on the record as going at 9 in that draft. Heeney at 18, despite a club putting in an offer at 2 or 3.

If Andrws got an offer at 34 and then went at 61, he must have been the second academy guy they got after a bid in the second round that year?

Last year ollie Murphy and shoenmaker were in the frame for our second pick before we took jiath. So we did consider taking a fwd/ruck or a kpd last year.

Think we will address both of those in this years draft.

Think we answered that in MSD, they look to be turning Smit into forward/ruck

Is that from the club or just discussion about who we should take?

yea but smit hasn't shown he is capable of playing it at the highest level. Doesn't hurt to draft another fwd/ruck.
If smit turns out well as a fwd/ruck, we can play our draftee more as a fwd.
I think both Steene and Smit will play forward and ruck, alternative.
And we'll draft someone to play forward. But suppose some versatility won't hurt.

"Wrighty hops on the phone, with fellow Victorian clubs St Kilda and Richmond potential suitors for a pick swap. If Archer Reid and Logan Morris are still on the board at the Saints’ pick, which sits at 33, Wright says they’d be prepared to hand pick 37 and a future third round selection over to nab one of the talls. There are also discussions around moving back to pick 40, which currently sits with the West Coast Eagles."

"with the Pies now focussing on who will be available at pick 37. Sandringham defender Ollie Murphy and Tasmanian Arie Schoenmaker are rated around the 30s, but there’s a name up higher that’s yet to be called: Tew Jiath"

It looks like we really wanted to draft a kpp in last years draft. Even prepared to move up to get him. Think we will be more more aggressive this year.

Cheers.

We mustn't have rated that draft if we only took 2 picks, upgraded Markov and Steene and left 3 spots for SSP despite Shoenmaker - a bloke we rated in the 30s still being available.

If we wanted to be really aggressive,
We can first trade pick 66- 80 points to carlton for picks 69, picks 71 = 78 points.

Then use picks 52,55 and 60 to really move up the draft board.
