We have Cowan, Wilson, Boyd, Cincotta and both Hollands boys who can all play half back to a reasonable level.

We have absolutely 0 quality small forwards. Biggest current hole on our list outside of KPD, which generally takes multiple years before they start impacting from the draft.

Personally would be trying to address our KPD issues at the trade table given it's an immediate need not a future one.
Small forwards are about reading the play, being in the right spot, and taking your opportunity when it presents. We have Williams, Fogarty, and one of Motlop/Durdin.

We need to develop a rock solid defense and unfortunately our backline is somewhat revolving at the moment.
You can't have a solid defense with pinch hitters (this year should have made that abundantly clear). You need a group who have a very clear understanding of where to be in support of one another, especially under duress for large portions of the match. You cannot have 'individuals' running around unclear of who is where and not knowing when to stay back or when to go.

The sooner we can solidify a back 6 the better chance we have at 17.

Who's going out of our back 6 out of

Mcgovern Weitering Saad
Newman Young Cowan

Boyd/Kemp/Cincotta as the 7th

For me McGovern and Young would be likely candidates given their defensive lapses... But no first year draftee is coming in and filling that KPP spot.

Our KPD hole will have to be traded for imo, the small forward hole is a position a year 1 kid can fill if they're good.

Think I’m on the Taj train now (though feel we’d be more reluctant than most to take a player who’s done an ACL).

Any one (ideally two) of Taj Hotton, Lindsay, Berry, Hannaford, Dattoli and Jacques would make a nice addition/s.

We have too much tied up in KPPs already. We need smalls/mids with speed, skill (and, ideally, x-factor).

Well Young probably will, but it's not about next year. It's about drafting a decent half back for when Newy/Doc/McGovern (+ Haynes) are no longer getting the job done. We can't bank on getting Houston and next year these guys will 'hold the fort' but if we don't get someone in and developing this year we are going to be even further behind in defense, but I think our forward line will be OK if they can figure out how to work together and create space for one another.

Does anyone know anything about Floyd Burmeister and where he might go in the draft? Reads a bit like a Paf special and he could be that forward/ruck type that we could do with going forward. After all, we've lost a lot of tall depth with who we de-listed.

Looked at Cal Twomey's latest top 30 draft prospects. Where are all the key position defenders? I think I counted 1, possibly 2 of them.
O'Farrell seems to bob up in the 30's in a lot of Phantoms. With his carlton connection he would be ideal.

A dream draft/trade period would be best available at 11. O'Farrell with our second before a bid on Ben . Somehow turn our F1 iand some trades received gor Kennedy,/Owies into Houston. Remainder of picks received for Kennedy/Owies for Wicks. Haynes as a DFA.

In pick 11
O'Farrell
Houston
Wicks
B. Camporeale
L. Camporeale
Haynes
Irish #2

Out
Cuningham
Martin
Marchbank
Mirkov
Akuei
Kennedy
Owies

Might require some juggling of list spaces from main to rookie etc. Means S. Durdin remains on list but can be removed if a better option from state league etc is found.

If we somehow nab GC12, I'm warming to actually keeping it....
Pick 11

Our F1 for pick 12

Pick 31, picks from the Owies and Kennedy trades for pick 17 from Brisbane and maybe a F2 (helps them this year with early bids for Ashcroft and Marshall

Pick 11 - Lindsay
Pick 12 - Hotton
Pick 17 - Berry/Matt Whitlock/Hannaford

Now that would be a draft haul

Won’t happen though let’s be honest

One of them would go to Port for Houston without doubt.
