Fwiw I think Twomey's assessment of our midfield needs is spot on.
Whoever fits that bill out of our hopefuls is our man imo.
Their "game" needs to be able to withstand the rise to AFL level as well as fit in with our system, which does work when we have all the right cattle in their right places. Watch opening round if you've forgotten.

What I also believe is spot on, is our LM Team's focus on this draft. They've certainly caught my attention with what they've done to date so I am fairly sure they've got this. They know who they want and/or what they want.
As I stated elsewhere this is not SOS picking a mid (sorry Paddy & SOS)

We've done a lot right in the last few years with GW's appointment, new fitness guy etc etc so I'm pretty confident they'll get this one right

BTW I don't know who I'd take.
I like Jaggas movement. Quick. That's good. Don't want lumbering mids. Need to be able to get both back and forward quickly. Quick spread. You do also need the size and strength and he'll get that. Nothing wrong BTW with players who are good at avoiding contact but only if you are elite at it will you get away with it at AFL level. Ala Scott Pendlebury. How do you think he's played for so long?
Draper is also very good and having played already against men (which is also very high on my list of prerequisites for puck 3)

He's good. Big inside mid with a very nice kick.

But he's sloooooooooow

He tests slow, but he doesn’t play slow.

He is very comfortable running the footy and he seems to glide/lope across the ground. When you see his highlights I think he’d be up there with running bounces.

There are also various examples of him bursting out the front of stoppage.

His kicking isn’t consistent but he hits them very well both long and short. Usually kicking to a team mates advantage.

He’s fantastic overhead. Probably better than fos and and Lalor (who both mark it well).

A few months back it was said he was north bound and I got upset as looking at his testing data pre season I thought it would be irresponsible to invest in yet another mid but one that wasn’t athletic enough. His 2km combine time put that concern aside for me.

I then saw Bontempellis combine testing numbers and was shocked how identical they were. Seriously the way they cover ground looks the same to me.

I reassessed his vfl debut and it was actually very strong. He won numerous memorable contests.

If we don’t trade down I hope and assume north will take him.

If we took Smith I think he would start the year in the forward line. Don’t think we would see him as a full time mid until his 3rd year. Will be a gun either way.

Lalor for me and I’m warming to Draper if Lalor is off the board.

Going to be a handy small forward. Quick, great read off hands, creative by hand and foot, knows where the goals are and evasive

North need a big bodied mid with all round abilities. I like Langford for you guys. Maybe even Smilie.

I do think O’Sullivan’s underage highlights look better. If we take him, I guess we’ll just have to hope that his injuries got the better of him this year and that we have a plan for getting him right to play AFL (a bit like Moir).

I do like his marking, and he seems to have the happy knack of launching inside 50s. But I can certainly see why many seasoned watchers around here are a bit meh.

Exactly, he is the best by far. Numbers outstanding, even as a 16 y.o playing against the best 18y.o in the country had better numbers than the others do now. But the numbers don't reflect the bigger gap in the ability to create time through his agility and evasion. Makes his possessions more impactful then the others like Lalor. Lalor we already have, big strong competitive first receiver and distributor, threat up forward. We have that.
O'Sullivan and Lalor numbers don't stack up. Impact doesn't stack up vs. Draper.
Drapers kicking is far superior. Ability to put it on the button much more than the other two.
Pace is electric. Football watchers over there say he's had the best underage years since Gibbs.
People can say others we're injured but so was Draper coming into Champs, others wilted, underperformed because of injury, not him though. He still produced outstanding games. Show's resilience.
He's going to be something special, if Austin moved up to get him he's done very well and is sharp on this one.
If he has moved up to get O'Sullivan he is a peanut of the highest order.
Don't f this up Austin and co. 2 drafts worth of picks and a player given up for nothing depend on this pick and it has to be Draper. He is also the most ready to go because of this speed and agility, like N.Daicos.
Kid will be far better the Harley Reid. Also has time played with Campo twins, it has come together nicely.
Stars have aligned. Please don't f it up Blues.
The only reason to give up those split picks would be him. Players in those 10-20 picks will be better than some of these top 5 names.
Yes please to Draper!!!

I think we just write down a few names & pull a name from a hat with whoever is left at 3.

Chances are we won’t get the best player in the draft, it will be the subject of discussion & debate for years.
It’s all a guess but it’s nice to have a good pick at it & pretty much guaranteed to get some one who’s more than handy.

Genuinely think it’s a mistake from the tigers. They need a master accumulator like Jagga to begin the rebuild.
I guess that you have to take into account what is already there as well. They have Taranto and Hopper on long term deals with Prestia still going around. Not sure how that impacts on who they take- maybe they want an explosion type player as opposed to an accumulator?

I would have zero qualms with any of the mooted top four picks. They’re all gonna be good to great players.

Fair play to PommyinOZ - I posted a message on the video and he apologised and added a link to my channel in the description.
Good to hear Noober! Pommy does a mountain of work in the Blues media space and draft space in general so good to see he's still taking on feedback/requests. He's on about 50 different podcasts and shows each week these days

We appear to have traded into as bust-proof a position as possible, and can't go too far wrong with any of the obvious options - given the capital spent to get here, though, one would hope the ceiling is very high.

I'm in the Smith and Draper camps, I think, but one would hope all due diligence is done on Sid's willingness to move (and stay) outside of Adelaide.

Langford has impressed me greatly in each of his matches I've watched, though. I reckon the team that ends up with him will get a real beauty, and terrific value for their pick. I know much is said of him not fitting our midfield mix, but whichever bloke we choose here will play ~10 years without Cripps (and Hewett, for that matter).

It's a little difficult to picture our post-Cripps midfield, but I think Austin and co need to have one eye on that, at least? Not sure how much this, and the looming arrival of Cody, might sway our choice - but it'll be fascinating to see how this plays out.

Praying somehow we get a pick back in the mid teens for Berry

Draper/Lalor/Smith/FOS + Berry and I'll be cracking open some cold ones

Na just take him anyway.
To me he’s exactly what we need.
Depends on what we think of the other options at 3. I could see Adelaide potentially paying a fair bit to get a pick 3/4 swap with us if they are hot on Draper - as I would expect them to be - and if they expect him still to be there at our pick. They don't have any other decent picks at the moment, but that could change, or they might proffer a future or they might blink on a key defender - they have a few (Worrell, Murray, Betts & Keane just off the top of my head) that would interest us. Just don't know how keen they might be. Then there is the question of whether he might get picked up before us - I doubt it but there are a lot of permutations. If Adelaide expect him still to be there and we have doubts I'd try and get their best offer now and decide whether it warrants the pick swap. If we are also confident he gets to our pick maybe we hold off to draft night and see how keen Adelaide might be if he is definitely there - obviously blows up if he gets taken, but we are probably happy enough to go to the draft with our current pick unless there is a really good deal on the table.

Of course we may not rate Draper at our pick although general view seems to be he is worth it. If that is the case makes it more attractive to do a pick swap with the Crows.

I love Draper and the immediate impact he could have, but on the other hand should we be looking a bit further and finding Cripps successor, we all expect to challenge over the next 1-5 years so reality is this is the last chance we will get with a high pick for a while... Cody Walker excluded.

I actually don't think we need to find a direct successor for cripps. Alot of teams now run a bunch of inside/outside players through the middle and share the load winning contested ball (ie Sydney) rather then relying on 1 beast. Reckon the game is going in that direction unless the player is very special.
