Yes, but I can’t put it out there because there’s lots of games being played atm.

In raw numbers, it is an interesting exercise, and every year, you could adopt different strategies, but perhaps looking at who else was available after pick 12 and 14 might show different outcomes

Below is a list from 2013 onwards of what was drafted at 3 vs 12 and 14 taking out Father son and Academy selections in the draft order.

2013 - Jack Billings - Pat Cripps and Zac Jones
Acres, Impey, Merrett, Barrass, Aliir, Laird

2014 - Andrew Brayshaw - Luke Weller and Sam Durdin
Lever, Steele, Miller, Maynard, Dale, Langdon, Sinclair

2015 - Clayton Oliver - Tom Doedee and Ryan Burton
McKay, Hardwick, Williams, Dawson, Broad, Papley

2016 - Hugh McCluggage - Jordan Gallucci and Jarrod Berry
Marshall, English, Hayward, Ridley, Drew, Darcy, Stewart, Rioli, Ryan, Larkey, Stengle

2017 - Paddy Dow - Darcy Fogarty and Matthew Ling
Bailey, Richards, Starcevich, Allen, Taylor, TDK, McCartin, Ballard, Payne, Miers, Moore, Baker

2018 - Izzac Rankine - Jordan Clark and Sam Sturt
Duursma, Hill, Rowbottom, Bedford, Wilkie

2019 - Luke Jackson - Miles Bergman and Copper Stephens
Weightman, SDK, Rivers, Warner, Close

2020 - Logan McDonald - Heath Chapman and Oliver Henry
Holmes, Bowey, McCreery, Treacy

2021 - Mac Andrew - Campbell Chesser and Darcy Wilmont
Aleer, JVR, McDonald

2022 - George Wardlaw - Elijah Hewitt and Josh Weddle
Jones, Cowan,

2023 - Zane Duursma- Kolthyn Thorlsup and James Leaske
Wilson, Moir, Morris, Freijah, Humphries

Which selection group do you prefer ?

How about draft night, I will send you a message or something and state who I would have picked.... Lock it away and see what was a better option in this hypothetical world.
Always enjoy your content/chat LM, but, might start a thread after the draft so anyone can post their views of players taken 12, 14 and beyond

Rookie Me have released their final top 50 power rankings before the draft.

Nice to see Ben ranked at 47 and a bevy of talls likely to be available around our second pick in O’Farrell, Gerreyn, Nicholls and Barrat.

Looks like we’ll get what we aimed for at the start of the trade period.

Our 2nd will be pick 34 as well, which should be in the sweet spot, so I expect it to go nowhere.

Don't have Reid, Allan, Hotton that high

Smith or Draper. Please. Pretty please.

The more I see and read about Smith, the more I want him. Very different beast to Cripps, but given his role, he could be the ideal replacement in a few years time.

And I just want to put it on record that I can't for the life of me see what the hype is about Finn O'Sullivan. I hope to God we don't call his name out.

I’d be happy with O’Farrell at 38, Austin and Co were at some of his games monitoring him.

We look to have some KPP as DFA options, I’m glad we’re looking at bolstering this area of our list.

Of course if Lalor is there at 3 it’s a no brainer.

Love your work ArrOw. Great read and a really good reflection on picks that came later in the draft over so many years.

The only thing is that it's not relevant to the point. Yes many great players have been overlooked multiple times by multiple clubs and have gone on to be great players. It will happen again this year.

I honestly don't think there is a Dow at pick 3 this year.

Such a great discussion between pick oppinions by everyone. IMO one Ashcroft/Sheezel/Daicos/Wardlaw/McKirtcher type beats two Ollie Hollands as much as i love him.

Jagga Smith is incredibly impressive in this interview. Oozes genuine confidence, intelligence, humility, poise, and leadership. If he slips through to our pick he would be very difficult to pass on IMO. As much as I love Draper, Jagga could really be something special. He screams 300+ games, multiple AA, future captain etc.

do we need another accumulator though

Only seen highlights of players but best players in this draft will be Lalor and Smillie. Both high impact, move well and strong players with solid skills. Only question on them will be injuries.

I haven’t watched enough U18s footy but anyone able to explain why Harvey Langford is not even in the poll

His kicking is elite - we need that
He apparantly has great endurance
And he goes forward and kicks goals

I also love how he takes grabs and moves the ball on early to advantage - he strikes me as a rookie who could play half forward and rotate thru the middle from Game 1

Our 2nd will be pick 34 as well, which should be in the sweet spot, so I expect it to go nowhere.

There will be 4 bids in academy players before our pick, and 4 picks burned matching those bids, which means our pick will stay exactly where it is.

Just to clarify, the 4 picks burned before our pick will be used to match bids on two players - Levi Ashcroft (Lions picks 27, 34) and Kako (Essendon picks 28, 31).

The other two bids expected, on Lombard and Marshall, involve burning picks after our pick 38.

Interesting that Clancy Dennis didn’t even crack a mention as being unlucky to miss out. Strange that an All Australian key defender doesn’t get rated in the top 60.

Guess Dennis will be part of that group that flows over into the 50 to 60 range…

Clancy of the Overflow. :$
