Is this the draft thread??

I couldn't care less about ST Kilda.
Let's talk about the draft in this thread and players we are targeting.

That’s boring though, we’ve been talking about the same 4 players plus Campo’s since the end of trade period…

I’d prefer a bit of the “Saints are a deplorable, bottom feeding, scum sucking, piece of shit club they’ve always been” and some “Dodo screws over the scum one last time, wish he wasn’t leaving kind of chat” for a little bit

Planning is not the same as doing.

Fact is we have 7 open list spots, and the way you all want to play it out, we're only filling out 4 between the national and rookie draft. I don't think we're going to leave 3 spots to DFA, rookie and SSP.

We've got something in mind, that's for sure.
Spot on Jimmae. I’m with you on this one.
What they have in mind though, I have no idea! Ha!

Right, after going back and watching all the highlights of the draft prospects again for the 100th time
If we keep pick 3 I reckon we are going to go for FOS (if he’s available at 3)
It just makes sense in terms of what we need plus the strong family link with Walsh.
If he’s not there at 3 I reckon it’s Sid.

If we trade pick 3, which I genuinely think is a realistic possibility. It will be for overs in our favour. I’m not against this and I don’t see it as a slide like some are saying.
In a deep draft we could get 2-3 amazing players versus 1 potential gun.
That’s not a slide.

Ask me again tomorrow and I will have changed my mind again! 🤣🤣🤣

Okay JD but apart from:
- being SA’s Under 16 captain in 2022
- taking out the state Under 18 MVP in 2023
- going on to captain South Adelaide’s SANFL Under 18 premiership
- being awarded the AFL life members scholarship
- being one of only two players to make the All Australian U18 team in both 2023 and 2024
- having more senior experience than any top draft prospect in 2024,

...what has Draper done.

The thing is, transition play isn't always about who's the fastest sprinter but rather who's the fastest across the length of the field. Langford was one of the top performers in the 2km time trial, and his running capacity is elite for his class. His 20m sprint is lower, but when it comes to the transition game and broader running capacity he'll be a positive contributor to it.

Most of the game isn't played in an all out sprint. In fact very little of it is.
that left foot will slice any side

How is it a realistic possibility?? Seriously?

Austin did all that work to trade up to pick 3 to get one of the best kids in draft!!!! We are taking it to the draft

Is anyone saying we’ll only take 4?
I think the consensus is we’ll take 4 in the ND to make 36 senior, and then 1 rookie as it now seems we’ll be leaving 2 SSP spots open.

I assumed Langford was out of calculations, so I hadn't done much research on him.

My apologies, he's not slow in any way that matters.

Probably the best player in the draft

he's a gut runner. not quick. but runs hard from contest to contest. remember this is a 10 - 12yr player we're investing in, not just impacting straight away

Which makes Langford such a great option because his both! He can make an immediate impact next year as well as being 250 plus game player!!!

All great options tbh - FOS, Langford, Lalor, Jagga and Draper

Didn't I say he was probably the best player in the draft?

I don't think it will happen, but all that Jim's suggested is that we'll likely have done some planning in case a good offer comes our way.

Say NM elect not to trade down with Richmond, out of fear that Melbourne will pinch Tauru at 5. Tigers take FOS at 1 believing we want him. Tauru goes at 2. Now we could take one of Lalor, Langford, Draper or Smith at 3....but there is a guarantee that at least one of the four last to Pick 6 (maybe two if Melbourne grab Armstrong). Tigers still want Lalor, so they offer up say 6 and 18 for 3 and 38. I reckon we consider that.

Pick 6 gets whichever of Draper, Smith and Langford slip past Adelaide and Melbourne, all of whom we've strongly considered at Pick 3.

In doing so, we upgrade 38 to a pick in the late teens for a more highly rated tall, goal-smart small forward, or a slick rebounding general defender.

As I said...don't think it ends up happening, but it's certainly not an outlandish scenario. And 100% we'd be working through the permutations now so we know what we would/wouldn't accept come draft night.

Spoke to a recruiter for the anti-dentites at dinner. Langford #1 in his eyes despite my pessimism towards taking him at our pick.

I just hope and pray if we do pick him a pre season program in a professional environment gives him and extra yard of pace like it has with Bont.

I don't discount his kicking or ability to impact up forward but I worry greatly about our general speed around the ball for when we aren't winning the Lions share of the ball

With all due respect to our genuine ITKs, none of them would have a complete understanding of who goes 1 and 2, and then you have the North scenario

I'd suspect we keen on any of Lalor, FOS, Smith, Draper, Langford, they all offer a unique skillset

I have those 5 ranked

Lalor
Langford
Draper
FOS
Smith

But it's a tight contest
For me Langford should be last on that list as Carlton do not need another big lumbering type of player in the midfield as we already have enough in Cripps, Hewett and Cerra, and while he does have his unique set of skills the club are supposed to be looking at players with pace and more pace as we don`t have a player with that burst of speed out of the centre. To me Langford shapes as a taller version of Lalor but without his speed, and is more of a forward than a dead set mid......Does not solve our midfield quick extraction plan in my view......I really feel that Austin wants either FO`S or Draper, and as the so called draft specialists are saying.......Draper (baring injury!) is ready to step up from round 1 next season........hoping for one of those two, even though Smith is being compared to Cotchin by some. Doesn`t look like a sniper, but there you go!!!;)

Cerra is a big lumbering type? 🤔

Hey C4, can you elaborate what a deal might look like for North and Crows to make this happen. Crows have little outside of pick 4 and Roo's want to trade 2 to only move back a little but still get another pick in the first round. I just dont see how that happens?
4 and F1st for 2 and F2nd would be my guess.
