Yep Wicks is meh doesn't impact a game, Papley is eletric and then you have the untested Hanily and Konstanty. Hanily feels like a guy that could impact just needs consistency and Konstanty is a dud it looks like. Probably could look for another one with a late pick or a versatile on baller that could go forward to be a small forward
Wicks at his best is good in that sort of role, as he was for stretches of our 13-1 run. Consistency is the issue for him (and others), but he's unavailable at present anyway.

The big question is are we willing to go into a qualifying final, with the chance at a home prelim at stake, with just one zippy small forward (Papley)? Just typing that sentence makes me nervous.

Just exorcising all my fears & negativity here to get them out of my system before tonight.

I fear Geelong will flog West Coast so much they'll overtake GWS & Port on percentage and both those teams will lose and we'll have to play one of them (nightmare match-ups) over Geelong (ideal match-up)
All that Wicks needs to do is average 10 touches 1.5 goals and 5 tackles a game but this year he is averaging 9.6, 0.6 and 2 respectively

Was just looking at the ladder and thinking this exact thing.. unfortunately we have finals demons against the cats and giants to exorcise.. and obviously 8 years of defeats, including the most recent humiliation against Port.. so take your pick, none will be easy!

Geelong aren't much in my opinion. Definitely the team I wanted to face most in week one of finals and instead it looks like we're gonna get one of the two teams that were absolute last on my list of teams I wanted to face. Bit of a disaster lol

Nothing we can do about that if it occurs so why worry about it

When I watch Hawthorn, I'm reminded that we don't have enough small forwards. They have three talls and they're all pretty average (Gunston in his day obviously was great, and Dear is only a kid) but you counter that with Moore, Watson, Ginnivan, MacDonald around their feet, it's no wonder they look so potent.

Same with GWS. They've got Hogan, Cadman, and usually Riccardi or Brown (though it's Keeffe at the moment.) Also all mostly average besides Hogan, but it doesn't matter when you've got Greene, Jones, Daniels and Thomas at their feet.

All those players mentioned there - Moore, Watson, Ginnivan, MacDonald, Greene, Jones, Daniels and Thomas - all so quick and small and creative, they bring mad pressure.

We are really lacking in this area and I fear it will expose our talls - who I like but I think are only average - come finals time.
The hope is that Papley doesn't take long to get going and Cleary can continue on with his pressure, kicking a few. Campbell to stay at least off half forward.

Actually we can lose by about 100 and let either Port or Giants overtake us :moustache:

I thought the same about Geelong in ‘22 😂.

Is what it is I guess, hopefully we are good enough on the day.

That's why it's so important that our mids are firing and kicking goals.

Don't really mind who we get week 1. Whether its the Cats or GWS or whoever, if we play ordinary like we have been it wont stand up against any finals opponent.

But when we have our best 22 available and fit again, Cleary & Campbell likely won't be in it. It will be Papley or bust.
Horse has wanted a pressure forward even with Papley there. If it isn't Wicks or Corey or Fox, it's got to be someone. Not going to be Parker or Adams.

Of course, I'm not suggesting Horse is definitely going to get the mix right, or drop players when they shouldn't be dropped.

I'd happily play Port in finals. Every single year people just expect their best H&A footy to be repeated in finals, and usually get proven wrong (if not in a QF, in a Prelim).

Our best case scenario is Port and Brisbane stay on the opposite side of the draw from us and belt the crap out of each other lol only two teams I'm worried about
