Interesting... just did some research and if Charlie wins his third Coleman on the bounce, he'll be the first to do it since Gary Ablett Sr. And just for a daily double, It'll be the first time since 1953 that a club has had 4 Coleman medals awarded to it's players Not since the great John Coleman.

Charlie will be the 7th player to win 3 Coleman medals in a row. If he wins next year as well... he'll be the third player to win 4 in a row... joining Dick Lee, one win behind John Coleman.

Charlie will need a couple of big hauls of 6+ at some stage this year if he’s to win another Coleman - but I’m strangely ambivalent to individual player awards these days - kind of like our years of the late 70’s and early 80’s where we didn’t need Coleman’s and Brownlow’s - just premierships and the occasional Norm (although don’t get me started on the 1982 Norm ).

Just rewatched the game

Cowan was actually on Martin when he killed us in the 3rd. He just kept losing him. Well done to the coaches who could have made a change but they persisted. Obviously worked together with him in game to learn what Martin was doing and stuck with him. Cowan ball watched in the third and Martin ‘cheated’ forward (it’s good footy I’m just using the known phrase). In the 4th Cowan just didn’t take his eye off Martin and shut him out completely.

Well done to Cowan and coaches.

But I don't think this is actually correct if the umpire has already judged there to have been no prior opportunity? In such cases the ball can be knocked out in the tackle or the player with the ball just needs to have made a "genuine attempt" to dispose of it - short of an obvious throw I think you'd be hard-pressed to see many free kicks when the ball hits the deck after an instant tackle.

That said, I think one of the unfortunate knock effects of the HTB tweak, which was supposed to just cause earlier whistles in tackles whether it was for HTB or a ball up, is that what is now considered prior opportunity is more wildly inconsistent across umpires than it's ever been. IMO the average time allowed for prior opportunity has shortened considerably

Knocked out or immediately tackled all good - throwing the ball to ground shouldn’t be allowed in a tackle, it is in itself an opportunity to dispose of the ball properly.

I had one eye on the VFL game and like what I saw from Motlop who’ll also be pushing for selection.

Seems like Martin, Motlop, Durdin, Owies and Fantasia will be fighting it out for 2 spots next week assuming Charlie, Harry, Elijah, Fogarty and Williams all play.

I laughed out loud when I heard that gem from the “Lead syringe user” Watson.

The guy is an absolute peanut.

After leading his team into the biggest scandal in AFL history he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a football ground - much less a commentary box!!!

Clearly he should be thanking nepotism every day for the pay check he receives - it’s certainly not for anything he contributes to the commentary.

He does alright for someone that has English as their 6th language!
