On reflection, I think we should chalk this up as a decent win but not completely satisfying.

I think for the majority of the game it was played like an Essendon game. That's likely how they will have wanted the game to look. So from that perspective it's a cross. However, on the positive, despite that style dominance we were never broken down and Essendon weren't able to capitalise. So some positive and negative there.

I don't like how early we close the game down. We tried to shut down from about the halfway point in the 2nd to get to half time and it brought Essendon back into it a bit, and it took us a while to get back into gear in the 2nd half- until the 4th basically. I'm pretty sure I even saw both Charlie and Harry inside D 50 with a few minutes to go in the 2nd. I hate that.

Similar to the first point, I think matchup wise Essendon got what they wanted. All our stars were lowered. But positively others stood up and kicked the goals/impacted up field. So again positive and negative, not good we lost the matchup battle but positive others made up for it.

I guess all that shows that we just were the better team, despite the tactical battle going Essendons way it didn't really matter.

Makes good decisions. Isn't super quick but has a good side step and knows how to create space.

A goal-kicking mid/high half forward is exactly what we needed.
