It hasn't been confirmed but I have a strong feeling that yes - this is the reason. Probably a deal with the MCG stating Round 1 must be played there. So with a little linguistic shimmy shammy - Round 0 was born.

I'm waiting for main board comments tonight like:

• Doesn't feel like footy has started without opening game at the G
• Only 40k when we could have sold out the G for opening round...

I am however, enjoying the fact the meedya commentators actually had to travel this weekend instead of calling it from Melbourne.

There was a guy on SEN called Shannon Gill who writes for Code and he went through all the years when the first game was played , nothing to do with the G seriously too many people are losing their s hit over this . It is what it is , lets just enjoy it .
