Agree on the 23 , but can’t see Hinge as sub.

I’d pick Murphy but it won’t be him. Berry and Sholl form probably too good, fear it might be Pedlar.

I totally agree. I think Pedlar will be the one to miss out (sub ) unless they don’t feel Soligo is ready for a full game

Pedlar still had 12 touches, a goal, 5 inside 50s, 6 score involvements, 402 metres gained (5th on the ground) and broke the game open a few times through the middle with his long kick. Unless something has substantially changed, the coaches had him best 22 all of 2023 and I can't see that changing. It was a pretty standard 'Pedlar' type game today, wouldn't call it out of form.
good call

I didn’t think he was as bad as people are suggesting. Slow start to the game but came into it.

If Ned’s sub then one of the 22 from today’s first half + Soligo doesn’t play

Sholl sub (as someone who can run everyone off their feet) makes the most sense really, but he might have played too well
Sholl, in spite of being prominent today, just doesn't inflict any damage on the oppo. He's quite weak defensively and appears to be little more than a link in the chain on his wing. I see no weapons.

Absolute minimum chips player who will be dropped after not sticking a couple of tackles which cost us a game in the near future.

Just like previous years.

Can't see Nank playing ahead of Smith. Not convinced Curtin makes it either, continuity credits have started and he's on 0, Borlase on 2. Murphy plays too, probably ahead of Berry.

Fox News.

Nicks history over the past 4 years shows that this is complete and utter tripe when it comes to high end talent we draft.

2020 - Round 1 - Fisher McAsey
2021 - Round 1 - Rowe / Berry
2022 - Round 1 - Rachele / Soligo
2023 - Round 1 - Max

If Curtin is healthy, history shows that Nicks will get him in the team.

You're missing the bit where there were spots available all those years. Show me your 23 with Curtin in it.

We traded up to get Curtin but you think that if he is fit and healthy Nicks wont have him in the side round 1 because he doesn't have enough credits. Even though the past 4 years he has given 6 rookies we drafted their first game in round 1.

You are still living with the ghosts of Neil Craig and he has been gone for 12 years.

Berry simply must play. Must be rewarded for his preseason.
Yeah I’m coming around to this too

It’s tricky though , means we need to change our mix a bit and gives less time in midfield to Rankine , Rachele and Pedlar

Pedlar may be a forward so I can live with that for now

Need to get rankine in there > 40% though

Who would have thought we’d be flush for midfielders , Soligo also looks ready to play in there too but I guess we start him on wing as we have less options there

Realistically we can probably play a max of 2 out of laird berry and crouch, the only way to decide is put 2 balls in the middle of an oval, start them on 3 opposing points and a let them at it.

This is why Laird needs to be able to rotate forward. The last thing we need is to go back to the 4 man midfield system. But with Crouch, Laird and Berry in the 22, it's on the cards.

I think we’ve got perfect role for Matt Crouch at moment

He plays 65-70% TOG and starts on the pine , keeps him slightly fresh all game and he’s in ripping form

Laird is still in our starting 3

This all means Soligo plays wing I think

Berry either plays forward and then mid rotation or plays as sub - gonna be a close call

I reckon they might make him sub, wouldn’t be great for him

It’s not an easy first week of selection , I guess this is what we want

Starting 3 I see - Dawson Laird Rankine

Then Matt off pine in next relief

Berry either plays forward then in to make it 5 main mid rotation or he plays as sub ( not good for his career )

Rachele / Pedlar are the v low minute mids for now

Soligo looks to be a lock for a the wing even though it’s prob not his best spot as they have to play him as he’s too good not to and we look a bit average on wings without him

I’d be happy for Berry to play the forward role, probably leaves Murphy superfluous though.

Berry’s tackling pressure means we’d happily rest him forward I reckon. He can also finish in front of goals. He really could be like a new player for us this year.

Berry looked great yesterday .....Laird not so much ....it looks like Laird has lost a mtr of pace, that #1 wood of getting to the 2mtr ball first

How Berry fits into the structure, is the great unknown currently ....but he's a lock for R1

I'll ask again, show me your round 1 side with him in it.

I would 100% have him in if fit and healthy.

He would be in my back 7 defenders, coming off the bench.

FB: Max Butts Milera
HB: Smith Keane Worrell
C: Soligo Dawson Hinge
HF: Rankine FOG TT
FF: Keys Walker Rachele
FOL: ROB Laird Crouch

Int: Murphy, Pedlar, Curtin, Jones
Sub: Ned

This is the 22 I believe that Nicks will select. If Sloane was fit - I would think he would come in for Pedlar. I also wouldn't be surprised for Berry to come in for Pedlar. Not sure whether he brings in Burgess for TT if he is injured or selects another player like Berry to go against GC midfield.
