The end game is we must absolutely replace Strachan with a far better back up plan at the end of 2025 and at this point I'm far far from convinced McAndrew is that though at least we have the option to try before we buy right under our nose with him.

Then it's either re-sign ROB for say 2 years or try to recruit someone superior, again I'm far from convinced Sam Draper is that player if the talk of him wanting home has any truth.

That we have brought in McAndrew would suggest the club isn't going down the Toby Murray ruck development path whch is a little disappointing IMO.

I have always classified it as a rumour - never stating it as fact.

Absolutely agree with you re: Strachan, 100%.

The ROB rumour is just that, but it has credence due to the reports of Adelaide's interest in Draper. Draper is clearly a ROB replacement, not a Strachan replacement, so there wouldn't be any need for him if the club wasn't expecting ROB to exit the building.

The issue is not whether we need to replace Strachan (which is an absolute given), it's whether we need to replace both Strachan & ROB at the same time.

And I would suggest a goodly proportion of the better options will well and truly be off the table by the end of season unless we get real busy right now.

I don't know, there were big questions on his endurance by recruiters so the club would need to check that out big time because we've all seen how Strachan got found out at the AFL level regards endurance. Verrall certainly ticks a lot of boxed re his athleticism and involvement around the ground outside of rucking.

Sauce was a lot further advanced than Henry Smith at that point and was playing ruck in the VFL full time as well as lead ruck in the AFL the latter part of the season before joining the Crows and not part time like Smith.

I heard a podcast before the draft with the Roos recruiter saying Goad was developing nicely. Not much on Barnett, but I liked him as a junior.

If we're interested this year, it's likely we're interested even with a similar season. Providing a McAndrews/Murray/SSP pick doesn't come from the clouds and rip away the 1st ruck role.

After all, there is something currently in that profile that we want.

You and I both know he'll be re-signed before the end of 2025.

Ladhams unlikely to have too many suitors and behind all of Brodie Grundy, Will Green and Hayden McLean and won't dent our salary cap.

There's several I'd take before Ladhams too but the reality is they'll most likely be re-signed before year's end
