Thought bubble. North looking at bringing their F1 into play to get another good pick in this draft

Could we split our pick 4 for a later top 10 pick (ie with Freo) for eg 9 & 17? then look to try and swap 9 and say our F2 for norths F1. We use 17 to go after Dodson or any of the mids that slip in this draft and have our F1 and North's F1 next year to make a play for Sharpe. Norths F1 'could' be pick 2 next year and our own 'could be a top 5 pick on its own

Just trying to think outside the square on how we can still remain relevant in this years 1st round and offer enough of an incentive to acquire North's F1

FUTURE PICKS UP FOR GRABS

NORTH Melbourne is among the clubs open to putting its future first-round pick on the trade table to land another top pick in this year's draft as teams clamour for high end talent.

The strong regard for which recruiters hold the 2024 draft crop has been further exemplified by most clubs expressing they are open to using their future pick to buy into this year's first round.

The majority of clubs are open to either adding an extra first-round pick or attaining a first-round pick in this year's draft by using their future pick as a trade chip.

The Roos are understood to be among them, having put forward a future first-round pick for Port Adelaide star Dan Houston.

North Melbourne holds pick No.2 at this year's draft, behind Richmond at No.1. The Roos have used 10 first-round picks in the past four drafts, including seven in the past two years for the likes of Harry Sheezel, George Wardlaw, Colby McKercher and Zane Duursma.

Only Jason Horne-Francis is no longer at the club from that group of Roos' first-round picks as they piece together a talented young group. – Callum Twomey
Get the thinking but do we want to kick the can down the road another year to get a highly regarded mid?

Good points, I would add that whilst the club thinks we are done with the draft, what is becoming obvious is that we aren't, because the list isn't good enough, and many on here realise that even if the club doesn't
Think they said this start of this season when expectations were of heading up the table but now with pick 4 in the bag and strength of this years draft, would hope they'd have rethunk.

Sad that with a "strong draft" we are hearing that the crow will part with their pick 25 on a 29yo that will come here regardless.

And what's the only thing they've done? Spent on a gun midfield.

The very thing we've neglected, either by picks, or development, for YEARS.
Yep as I said earlier, both teams about to face off in the prelim have no forward line but have gun midfields and we couldn’t give two hoots about the midfield.

We didn't think we needed to rebuild the midfield.

We had Crouch, Laird, Keays and Sloane as the cornerstone of our engine room.

Coaching aside, our midfield battery going forward should look like this

Dawson, Draper* Rankine, Soligo, Curtin, Edwards, Taylor, Rachele.

Pleny of talent, youth and upside there and also points of difference.

Now get them under a topline coach.....

Same side who got beaten by 84 points at home after their midfield struggle so their entire side struggle as their team at either end are shit??? There's a quality core midfield with Dawson, Rankine, Soligo and M.Crouch.

So who would we prefer IF both were gettable, and we can only get one

Oliver
OR
Luko
Luko easily. Apart from the obvious culture issues that Oliver seems a central part of, our biggest issue this year was transition and forward entry. Smith and Hinge regressed slightly, Milera was injured and Jones and Scholl on the wings is simply not good enough. I know Scholl improved massively over the year but if we can bring in Luko and Cumming, and have a whole year of Worrell and Milera, then I think our forward line will thrive.

If there were mids to spend the cap space on sure

We are the fat girl at the club saying "I"m bringing this", we really are. An elite kick when we are where we are should be a priority...but so should be kicking out shit kicks, like Murphy, like Laird, like Berry...

He plays the high half forward possie and then we draft grade for mids this year and next. We do not have enough years in our life for the club to get it right
Therein lies the problem.

Maybe we should work to make the club more attractive for the kind of player who wins Premierships, rather than spend that cap space on a good player but one that won't really get us a flag.

Na the same side that finished second on the ladder and play in a prelim next week without a forward or a back line.
