Article in the sun about Battle, typical sun great read about nothing.

Battle loves the saints and then gives us a nice slap, he left because amongst other reasons Mitchell and the hawks are the family club. Their morals etc align with him, they don’t just talk about it but prove it through their actions.

Frankly he comes across as a bit dim, I hope for his sake his form holds or he’ll be in for a rude awakening about the family club.

I really hate hawthorn, very hard not to hope they have a terrible year.
It's not that bad a read, he's doing the PR spin that his new club wants. The family club crap sounds a lot better than them offering a deal he felt like he should take. We came late and hard but we left ourselves open to poaching with the previous offer leaving him as an unrestricted free agent.

We invested in him, took him as a late pick when he slid out of the first round, supported him through injuries, found a place for him onfield, in return he talks up Enright and he talks up Ross after the fact. Now part of the fat contract Hawthorn paying him requires him to tow the party line/spout bullshit. They probably couldn't get him out there fast enough after the recent court settlement with their First Nations players, surprised it took this long.

Footnote: If his departure hadn't have got us Zak from Sky High I might've been less kind with my take.

In the future we’re going to look back at Battle leaving as one of those seminal moments for the club.

Call it stupidly optimistic, or the hopeful delusion of a Saints fan, but I have very high hopes for the two young men we picked up at 7 and 8.

Good point.

If everyone had to pick 2 players from Tauru, Travaglia and Battle, which 2 would you pick?

Battle and Billings

Ohhh GIF

Obviously don't have a subscription and now we can't paste it here I'll never be able to read this article but lol wtf.

How could he determine what a 'family' club is from the outside... feels like he's using his partner and kids as reasoning for all his decisions but it doesn't even make sense.

But whatever honestly gotta stop wasting seconds of my life thinking about an opposition player now.
He got way overpaid to go to a contending team. Any sane person would’ve done what he did IMO.

So is he still sane if the hawks have a down year and Saints make the 8 without him?
I’m pretty confident we won’t be playing finals next year but either way long term they’re far more set up for success than we are. The only time we play finals is when we get the new coach bounce.

I'm predicting a drop off in form for the hawks due to erratic coaching

Neurological problems

Syphilis can cause many problems with the brain, its covering or the spinal cord. These issues include:

  • Headache.
  • Stroke.
  • Meningitis, a disease that inflames the protective layers of tissue around the brain and spinal cord.
  • Confusion, personality changes or trouble focusing.
  • Symptoms that mimic dementia, such as loss of memory, judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Not being able to move certain body parts, called paralysis.
  • Trouble getting or keeping an erection, called erectile dysfunction.
  • Bladder problems.

Injuries are what cruelled our season this year, most of our midfield missing early in the year was costly. Without that we would have pressed for finals again, but we are a year or two away from being a serious threat.

We are an exceptionally well coached and organised side. We just need some of our kids to have an out of the box season and we will scare a lot of teams.

Im going to be more of a grinch here, but I cant get excited about Tauru's game and are concerned he was over rated at draft time.

Yes he can take a good mark, but apart from that his kicking is below average, he doesnt accumulate and Im worried he will remain one those tweeners. Im concerned he is not really tall or big enough to become a true key positional player and not agile enough to be used through the midfield. I believe if it wasnt for the media hype there would/should have been a number of players considered before him.

Plenty of other clubs rated him highly, so hopefully I am wrong!

Boy oh boy - where do we start here?

He has just turned 18 years old and has never played a game of AFL footy for a start - it's basically impossible to have such a negative outlook about his career at this stage. You are throwing a dart for the sake of it.

He is a key position player - accumulation is not a concern. Key forwards such as Charlie Curnow (57 goals) and Josh Treacy (45 goals) averaged a paltry 12 disposals a match, while Jacob Weitering averages 14 a game. He doesn't foreseeably need to be an accumulator, although it is a bonus if he is. But it's way too early to call on his accumulation ability regardless based on his juniors.

As for his size, Tauru has just turned 18 and is listed as 193cm. Curnow is 194cm, Treacy is 195cm and Weitering is 195cm.
At worst, he is 2cm short of these players and likely has a bit more growing to come being so young. Regardless, the notion that he is not really tall enough or big enough at this stage is ridiculous.

I'm not suggesting he is definitely going to be as good as the aforementioned players but we hope so and it's proof that accumulation and whatever size you think he is...is not necessarily a factor in becoming an elite AFL footballer in those positions.

Only one of them came from Battle compo though. Hopefully it works in our favour. We are owed about 20 years worth of drafting luck.

Plenty of times it's indirect advantages that occur. The player goes and all of a sudden some random on the list steps up. Battle probably had to step up in the absence of Roberton etc. All I care about is not going backwards short term. I think we need to be playing finals from here or we'll lose older players and be waiting again. Also need it to attract players in.

The entire point of him being draft this high was because clubs saw him as a guy with a lot of development to go - hence the label "raw"

You cannot take his current attributes at face value and make any conclusions. None of it is close to the finished product

Also please indulge in some numbers!!!!

Agility test:
Tauru - 8.20 seconds
10th in the rankings - 8.141 seconds
Marcus Bontempelli - 8.59 seconds
Patrick Cripps - 8.57 seconds

For a guy of 193cm and more in a couple years, is that really "not agile enough to be used through the midfield"?
