Yes but their point still stands I guess. We traded out so we wouldn't have to use that pick on Thomas and got Polec in addition, when the go these days is to trade ahead of the bid so you get 2 for 1. We got 2 for 1, it's just one of those 2 was Polec, lol.
It wasn't an option to live trade for a future pick back then, which will be Essendon's next move on draft night if Kako is bid on with a pick before their pick 9. They will be calling everyone with a F1.

Think this is all about Butters. Butters, from what I’ve heard, which is albeit not a lot that is verifiable, wants to head home in 2025, is a few whispers going around. Watkins is good friends with Butters from my understanding. May be an attempt to keep him around.

Watkins is a good player in his own right but I’m unsure what POD he’d have on their list.
So, if Port don't rookie Watkins, we offer him a rookie spot next year, perhaps if ...

I thought the mail is that Houston wants to go to Collingwood?
Like the Carlton near-certainty a week ago, the pies favouritism is up for debate. The pies became ‘favourites’ because the media thought they were getting pick 13 in a noble + picks deal. Given the complete uncertainty over whether the pies get 13, whether 13 + Richards is enough for port (which is doubtful) and that Houston has not actually nominated anyone yet, the pies favouritism is still quite debatable. The media are sticking to it largely because of their large club bias and don’t know enough to say otherwise.

What remains actually solid is our deal and that we have the higher picks to satisfy port. Houston is reportedly in Melbourne today meeting with pies, us and Carlton.

Most likely scenario is he stays and we trade out pick 2 for our own drafting purposes.

Thanks mate. Didn’t think we were in the race because the only place Houston has been linked to North is in here. I knew that North wanted him, didn’t know that he was considering it.

Then all on here would be up in arms that we traded pick one and missed out on him a no win situation for the club. What support would have helped How do you know we didn't offer all the support possible or are you just guessing we didnt.
You can’t be serious can you?

Whilst I’m sure the club thought they were doing all they could (a generous assumption), hindsight points to that it was as bad a run football club as we will see. At that time, David Noble was our coach (no longer in the AFL). Ben Amarfio our CEO (no longer in the AFL). Brady Rawlings was our GM of Footy (demoted and survived because of his association with the club). Tarryn Thomas his closest friend (no longer in the AFL).

Jason was/is immature. However, anyone arguing that the club provided him the best possible support to set him up for success in our state and football club is f*kn delusional.

I am just relaying media reporting. We aren’t talked about as much because we haven’t offered picks this year yet.

Not only that he was telling all the campaigners at the milk factory that he wanted to be in Adelaide.

Who is this years version of Neale?

25 year olds coming off the previous 4 years he had with Freo becoming available don't come around often.

I was just countering the argument that Bris traded in all these players once they were successful. They didn't they traded in players, for high draft picks before they jumped up the ladder (as well as while they were up top). If we wait to trade in A-Grade talent until we are playing finals, we may never will.

We shouldn't pay too much, but we should what we can to get Houston without damaging our draft hands too much. I would be happy with no first next year (or a late first ) if we could get Houston in

ITK it's time we stop 🛑 talking about JHF , let it go and move on. Seriously I've been outside for a few hours come back in and put myself through 5 pages of this. For the love off god .
2024 trade thread 90% whingers about jhf and boomer.
Get over it.
Time to move on was years ago in both cases.

FWIW, I haven't heard anything RE player contract situations. The only stuff coming out is trade period info which hasn't really made much progress.

Players are on break and working towards the goals set by the club. Also, Wardlaw is best mates with Sheezel. They are in it for the long haul.

Yeah, one of the deleted posts last night was trying to say they dislike each other which is way from fact.

Yes killing it all the way into the bottom 2 for a 5th straight year. Kudos for at least giving me one thing the NMFC has got wrong. :stern look

I love that word hindsight .Same posters use it so often.

Roos hunt Dons’ top pick so they can pounce on Port’s Houston

By Marc McGowan and Peter Ryan

North Melbourne are exploring the possibility of trading for Essendon’s pick nine in a potential deal that could blow the Dan Houston race wide open.

The Kangaroos are among the clubs chasing Houston’s signature, along with Collingwood and Carlton, and continue to look for ways to force their way to the front of the queue, even if the Blues and Pies loom as his preferred destinations.

Western Bulldogs, who want strong draft compensation from Geelong for Bailey Smith, are considered unlikely to force their way in despite previously meeting with Houston.

Two list management sources, who were granted anonymity to speak about trade matters, told this masthead that North would be prepared to part with their future first-round pick to secure the Bombers’ No.9.

The Roos would then be able to use Essendon’s selection as a bargaining chip for Houston, given they are unwilling to part with pick two, according to a separate source, outside “splitting” it for extra first-round draft assets this year.

In the worst-case scenario, North Melbourne would retain two top-10 picks in a strong draft under this outcome.

The problem in all this would be that, apart from pick No.9, the Bombers have only pick 31 in this year’s draft. They could gain an extra selection if Jake Stringer agrees to be traded to Greater Western Sydney.

Houston, an All-Australian the past two years, wants to return to Melbourne, but has not nominated a club and has four years left on his Port Adelaide contract.

That means Port has the power to decide: one, whether they trade him at all; and two, which team he ends up with if they do agree to part with him.

The Kangaroos are not the only club interested in the Bombers’ No.9 selection, which rival recruiters expect will be absorbed by an opposition bid on Essendon’s Next Generation Academy product Isaac Kako.

One of Melbourne or St Kilda seem likely to place a bid on Kako before the Bombers have a chance to pick a player, while Richmond could do the same once they secure Gold Coast’s No.6 in the Daniel Rioli trade.

The Magpies do not have a first-round pick in this year’s highly touted draft, but remain in the hunt for the Suns’ pick 13. However, negotiations are at a standstill – and under threat from Melbourne’s aggressive pursuit of the selection. The Demons have offered their future first-rounder and their second-rounder this year.

In Collingwood’s favour is that John Noble wants to play for Gold Coast, and fellow Magpie Joe Richards has requested a trade to the Power.

Contracted Suns swingman Jack Lukosius has also asked to be traded to Port, although well-placed sources have consistently told this masthead the Lukosius deal would likely be separated from any possible trade of Noble and pick 13.

The wildcard in the Houston sweepstakes are the Blues.

Carlton’s trade period-shaping pick swap for Hawthorn’s No.14 on Friday adds to the pick 12 they already owned, and means they can appease Port Adelaide’s trade demands for Houston.

The Blues, who want to make at least one first-round selection in this year’s high-quality draft, are content with keeping the extra pick, or using it to move up the draft order, but have not ruled out a Houston move if Collingwood cannot secure Gold Coast’s 13.

They sent their future first- and second-round selections to the Hawks for 14, while acquiring Brisbane’s 2025 second-rounder in a separate deal beforehand to satisfy the league’s future trading rules.

I'd do this.
