yeah but how much better if it were a f3 and 44 given

and at 25 we pick a KPF like Gerryen
Yep but it wasn’t, and probably was never going to happen.

You know, if my auntie had balls she’d be my uncle kind of thing?

So Clarko wanted an experienced half back, and he wanted someone to step in now rather than risking a long term draft pick.

I’m generally pretty critical of a lot of our list management decisions but I’m not unhappy with the CD deal. I like Daniel as a player and a fit because he has a clear strength in a clear area of weakness for us.

I’m not in the least worried that he was in and out of the dogs side this year - Bevo is a genuine nutbar - if anything I can see Daniel being a much better player for us than he ever was at the dogs.

I’m absolutely wrapped to get Parker and fine with Konstanty as a peg at the stumps in a position of need.

It's more the list balance. That was a good chance to add Gerreyn/Faull/Sims as a key forward or Matt Whitlock as a key defender or small forward like Hannaford at pick 25.

So I assume you think our off season is finished?

Trade week is phase 1.

The draft is phase two. The team have made it clear we are looking to bring F1 into it and also trade down.

The job isn’t done yet and the club have told us they have plans to hit this draft.

We have achieved phase one, with Parker, Darling, Daniel, pick 2 and retaining next years first round pick.

Now for the draft.

Patience

Way too much whingeing on here. But I accept that. It's Bigfooty. Par for the course.

Clarko said we needed experience, so we bring in three premiership players. Can't argue with that.

Some wanted pick 48 back with CD when we gave up 25. Which bona fide champion player would we have drafted with pick 48??

Some wanted to give up our F2 rather than 25, without realising that F2 would have BEEN 25 in or thereabouts in 2025. Somehow in some people's minds F2 is pretty much a throwaway but 25 is valuable. Come on guys.

We needed experience, not more speculative young players. We have tons of those. We got experience. It was a good result. Be happy. We still have pick 2 as well.
If we held 46 and had 48, could move up in the draft for a pick in the 20’s.

So how many we got on the list now
got rid of 7
brought in 4 plus 2msd
plus we have pick 2 and 62

1 more player needs to make way (drury)

i think we will get rid of 2 out of the 3 in limbo to give us flexibility

i'd keep coop but on the rookie list

We definitely overpaid for Daniel, I don't dispute that.

But he is a good player and he does make us better. His kicking is a point of difference and allows us to actually keep the footy in transition which helps both phases, which we have struggled with for ages
Agree, but I think this trade represents the situation as it stands.

Any more demoralising hammerings will destroy the psyche of a group of young guns that expect to be in the game.

Individually he doesn't tip the balance. Add Parker and the professionalism of Darling and we are starting to address the Mariana Trench of leadership at the club.

Caleb Daniel the Next Higgins.

Exactly and it f Caleb comes in and helps McKercher reach his potential then BINGO.

That’s the bigger picture and the club have told us this.

We ain't taking only pick 2 and as it stands now our other pick in the 60's to the draft. We are 100% splitting it now, our only hope is our ff nets us something decent in return and we can keep 2
We should be looking at trading our F1st first before offering up pick#2 for splitting..

Our rebound game sucked because we don't have any forwards who know how to lead.
But the biggest problem was, our guys still kicked the ball to the non-leading stagnant forward line anyway. Obviously, we're expecting some decent on-field coaching to create movement so that is less likely next year, but as much as I (honestly) don't like Daniel, I appreciate his ability to manage possession in the backline and that might reduce the kick it anywhere type mentality that currently exists, allowing for our younger blokes to see a few viable targets when they get their chance to unload.

I don't know what they'll do about Luke McDonald, but if I'm Clarko, when the votes are tossed into the hat for the captaincy next year, I'm doing a very clever switch when the players are distracted and pulling out an identical looking hat with a set of very carefully curated votes to ensure that the outcome is "favourable" to the team's chances of winning a few games.

Well, I hated that. But anyway.

40 players are signed for next year and the maximum list size for us is 44. So only 4 free list spots (assuming we cut Drury, Cooper and Laz - who are all unsigned).

If we take River and one of the Werribee boys, we'll only have 2 other spots at the draft. That is really not good considering its strength. Probably best to payout CCJ and Stevo to give us a few more options, even if we don't end up using them.

In the draft?

Great, just what we need more kids getting fed into the meat grinder of a club with low on-field standards and leadership.
Yes we haven't taken a key forward in the draft since Comben in 2019 and Maley last year as a rookie.
They don't play AFL to start with. They develop at VFL level and learn off Darling and come into the side in a few years.
We don't have anybody developing as a key forward apart from Maley. I don't count Pink or Teakle, they are stop gaps.

Be honest would you trade a top 3 pick for 4 picks beyond 15?
No but i would for #6 & #18 in norths position
really depends on what else is available

But as a Richmond supporter where you could throw a blanket over the first 7/8 picks i wouldnt give up more than a pick #18 as the bonus.

Anyway thats for Blair & Brady to work out , I just thought in such an even draft you guys could get 2 KPP and 2 mid/smalls
