No.2: Jagga Smith - Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Midfielder

Height: 181cm

A contested midfield beast, Smith showed his ability to win the ball in congestion during the Under 18 championships.

Smith had the most disposals for Vic Metro, averaging 29.3 and also went at an impressive 82 per cent disposal efficiency.

He also helped clinch the title for Vic Metro by winning the final clearance of the game to help set up Luke Trainor's winning goal.

Konstanty for free levels out the overpay for Daniel
brady got saved from himself
was going to spend a future first on houston

but cos we missed got an extra list spot to get konstanty included

we were going to be without a future first and konstanty but wouldve had houston

It is a shame we didn't pick up a future 2nd and 3rd round pick last year when we had a ton of picks and at the time and were cashing in the future pick assistance.

It is as if we had no plans to pick up more mature players and we just assume we would get natural improvement. It seems from a list management perspective we altered course and it left us with compromising our draft hand this year. It doesn't give a lot of confidence in the list management tbh, we still have a lot of holes in the list structure-wise. How many years is ti going to take to get the structure of the list right?

Time for some brutal honesty. Players that wont be around in 3+ years time:
Corr
McDonald
Kallan Dawson
Pink
Ste[jemspm
Coleman-Jones
Lazzaro (still no contract)

Players not great in their current role:
Tucker
Stephen
Simpkin
Fisher
Ford
Bergman

I've left out rookies, despite our departures already I can easily list a dozen guys who aren't that great.

People can bitch about bringing in Darling, Parker, Daniels, etc but they are walk up start a mile better than what we have going around and people are pissy because we paid a grand total of a second and third round pick.

I think my major gripe is a lot of this reconstruction of the list should have occurred two years ago, Logue was the only quality inclusion. You can't blame the people here for things done before their time but we have held onto low output players like Stephenson and Taylor for too long.

I am pretty happy with the inclusions, I am not happy that it took so long and we made no plans to do prior to this year and the opportunity cost is we had to trade out picks where there are a lot of good options in this draft, that is part of the price of us not executing the off-field stuff as well as we should.

Yep but it wasn’t, and probably was never going to happen.

You know, if my auntie had balls she’d be my uncle kind of thing?

So Clarko wanted an experienced half back, and he wanted someone to step in now rather than risking a long term draft pick.
So we gave four years to Fisher just to replace him with a smaller, less defensively gifted fringe player from a club in a similar ladder position?

Genius.

Agreed, I can't see Ste[jemspm being there much longer.

Do not ever come to Warrnambool and ask for a party pie.

It is like asking for a parmi.
I know..the natives here are very particular about it their ….Warnie traditions….…nibbles it is…(but l still remember party pie growing up in Benders😁 ) find it funny though when you walk into the supermarkets its the name that won’t be named….oh the angst 😂….

Except that Hannaford is like Konstanty when he was drafted, merely fantastic potential ...
Hannaford could be anything and his intensity is manic. Much better skills and can play anywhere on the ground.

Konstanty, from what I have seen, is more of a defensive forward. Good pressure but not so much of an offensive threat.

So how do we line up next year?

FB: Corr ~ Logue ~ Archer
HB: Goater ~ Comben ~ Daniel
C: McKercher ~ Parker ~ Scott
HF: Zurhaar ~ Darling ~ Simpkin
FF: Fisher\Konstanty/RHJ ~ Larkey ~ Curtis

R: Xerri ~ Sheezel ~ LDU

INT: Wardlaw ~ Powell (5th onballer? HBF relief) ~ one of the three I listed in the pocket ~ Duursma/Tucker?

My guess is one of Fisher or Tucker get included for their versatility. Not sure if we'll play a proper second ruck like Teakle?

I'm not sure how we play this many onballers and I feel we need Parker to play a decent amount of midfield time. Simpkin to a wing? I dunno.

So we gave four years to Fisher just to replace him with a smaller, less defensively gifted fringe player from a club in a similar ladder position?

Genius.
Alternatively, we gave four years to Fisher to provide run from half back and then added elite ball use by recruiting an AA, B&F winning defender from a finals side.

Daniel hits targets.

Short, lateral nothing kicks.

We have six others on the list to do that already.

Good stuff Brady.
Yeah the six others miss their targets, that’s the problem. Even dinky 25m kicks sideways. In the history of the game, it’s possible no backline has missed more targets than McDonald, Fisher, Scott, Corr and co. So, for all his other shortcomings (!), Daniel has one elite trait: kicking. And no team needs that more than we do.

Daniel never openly said trade me to North. I think he’s happy for the opportunity but if didn’t happen he’d continue to work on being picked each week for a strong side like the dogs - continuing to be paid good money.

We needed to make it happen not the other way around. It’s sucks. There will be a good role player at 25 that would help us with list balance. But you can’t have everything.

I’m looking forward to the group we put together last year going through another pre-season together.

Not sure what we do at the draft. I’d be happy to just grab the best kid at 2. I think FOS is top class and can play lots of roles. He just didn’t get a good run of games this year. I suspect he’s probably the best performed kid over the last 3 years. That probably doesn’t mean as much when your worst year is the top age year.

If we manufacture 2 + f2 for

one of tauru or armstrong
one of berry or hannaford
one of whitlock or gerreyn or faull

Happy to declare this offseason an unequivocal success.
2 + F2 for 10, 11, 20?

Hope I'm wrong, but I doubt Richmond will hand over 6. They need one of everything, and it's a good spot to take your favourite tall.
