Swap future first round picks with Port for Houston and maybe throw in our future 2nd?

Based on this year it would be 2 and 20 for 16?

I don't mind a punt, would add some spice to the year.

I’d split pick 2 to tigers for 6 and 10/12 once they lose rioli, baker, Bolton

The latter pick goes to port for houston

The alternative is the future first which they will probably push for

If it’s the future first I want Ollie Lord in the deal also
You end up with 6/10, with how all the afl reporters mock drafts are coming up, surprised you don’t take the gamble and go to the draft, might end up with smilie and trainor.

yeah probably but to me I'd rather trade pick 10 than a future first

go to the draft with 6 and 22

There’s also the chance we don’t split I guess

So need to be prepared to trade the future first to get it done but do it for Lord and Houston

I don't really care if it's a future first straight up, get Houston.

The good trading teams over the last few years like Geelong and Melbourne just get deals done and back themselves to improve. Sooner or later we need to do the same.

We can't just keep bringing in 18yo's and hoping things will change. Getting Houston in alongside Parker sends a message internally that it's time to improve and externally that we are a destination in coming years.

I don't care if it's pick 3 when he's worth pick 8. Next year's pick 3 could easily be a bust. Houston is an elite half back and will be for the next 5-6 years.

We're into the 2030s by then. If we're not contending by that stage we might as well pack it in.

It's time to shake up the narrative around this club and this is a perfect opportunity.

You'd think twice about drafting any SA boys in the short term, the Crows and Power are doing a very good job at getting elite talent back to SA.

J Dawson, Rankine, Judas and now Lukosious have all be repatriated in recent years, it's a growing list.
No offense to any SA folk, but

You’ve convinced me.

totally agree. Getting better mature footballers will also make the young guns already there better footballers. The flow on effect will be enormous

Steven May was pick 6. Lever was 10 and a F1. Not top 3 picks and I don't think Houston or Balta are that level of talent.
Houston is at least AA and an elite ball user. Balta is great in the air but is prone to some brain fades.
I think Tigers should be trying to hold onto him for their spine as nothing is suggests he wants out.

First instinct is no don't trade top 3 picks as our two best players in the Brownlow last night were top 4 picks, so you give up that level of talent at your own peril. This year is however a bit more even a draft so you could possibly look at splitting picks and getting a talented kid in and one of Houston/Balta but easier said than done finding a trade partner.

I think Houston goes to the Blues for pick 11 and their F1. They could offer up Durdin/Motlop/Owies/Kennedy as well.
Blues F1 would be perfect for Lukosius deal value I think. Campo twins not going to soak up Blues first with a bid.

SDK is an interesting one. Average rating for a defender and then threw him in the ruck. Late 1st perhaps.
We also shouldn't just overspend for the sake of it with LDU, Wardlaw, Colby and Zane contracts to consider.

I can't align with a lot of thinking here.

Trade the next Sheezel or LDU for a guy who will be 31+ when we're anywhere near competitive and is a nice to have, not a positional or cultural game changer for a club.

No dice.

Hurry up and nominate Pratt please Dan Houston.

Don't stress KC. He's a bagger.

I’m torn on this, but having good 32 year olds is a pretty key part of successful finals teams, which we’d ****ing better be in 4 years ie when Jy is 30, LDU 29 etc

I can’t help but think the way Ken coaches, players like Houston look far better then they actually are.
Houston coming to us for a top ten pick seems like a massive mistake, for him and us.

How will they get it done for Port tho? They just simply have to use pick 11 I imagine. If they're as adamant about using it on the draft as they claim, it doesn't get done.
Not sure. Assume they just end up giving their first pick and a sweetener next year.

I'm not claiming to know how it gets done. Just claiming to know what his absolute preference is.

It's been tried and failed many times. We need to get higher up the ladder before we start trading away access to potential stars. Pick 2-4 for a HBF who's 27 going on 28 is insanity. I can't actually believe there's those of us who want a few cheap meaningless wins over playing the longer game. We've been through enough, sure, but what's a couple more years?

Oh I have little doubt we'd be among his lowest preferences out of all Melbourne clubs.

But he's requested a trade to Victoria, not the Blues. He would have specified Carlton if it was certain he'd end up there.

Meanwhile, there have been several reports we're willing to put our future first on the table to entice him over. One of them was by Cal Twomey, who as far as I'm concerned is about as good a barometer as any when it comes to trade coverage in the AFL media landscape.

In order for DH to reach Victoria, Port have to be satisfied with the deal too. If Carlton come to Port with a few bits and bobs, or even their future first, and the Blues know that we've got our F1 on the line, there's no way they're taking Carlton's flotsam. In fact, I don't even know why they'd accept Carlton's pick 11 over our F1, truth be told.

So I reckon you're right in that he'll likely end up there, but no party seems to be giving off signs that they're supremely confident its in the bag, so to speak.

That would be awesome, but port arent going to accept F1
