Hawks just won a final with Chol & Dear as their KPFs…

The system we play next year is the single most important thing this off-season.
Two players with incredible athleticism and very rarely get outmarked and in the process bring the ball to ground for their smalls. Our key forward would be lucky to get 5cm off the ground and regularly just gives up in a wrestle.

Which is why Chom up forward is important, he can jump and compete in the air. It would look even better if there were smalls that could crumb.

If we are looking for kpp, I can see a trade with St Kilda. They will be gagging for their top rated mid.

NM trades 2 - St Kilda 7, 8

Trade 22, 40 - Brisbane 14

7, 8, 14

Trainor, Armstrong, Berry. Put feet up.

Lions aren't taking 22 and 40 for 14. They need more points to match Ashcroft bid in the top 3 and Marshall bid in the top 30. Another team like Tigers has a lot more 2nds and early 3rds (21, 29, 39, 41, 47, 57) to offer as points.
Swans could offer 18 or 19 and a F2 to beat our best offer of 22 and a F2.
And some other team might be willing to give a late F1 and 2nd/3rd/4th rounders as points this year, so I think we'd unfortunately have a crack at getting the Lions first but be beaten our by better offers.

As much as Rawlings gets a lot of flak for the previous list management decisions. I'm prepared to let that slide considering the tumultuous environment which was lingering with the old regime.

2022 trade period was a write off.

2023 trade period was and still is a trade period that helped us immensely. Although Fisher and Stephens weren't exact flash for the whole year, they did have some good games. Biggie gets so much criticism for just existing on our list but prior to the Hawks game, there seemed to be some raw talent on display in patches and perhaps he might become the successor to Majak Daw. The bloke can take a grab.

The 2023 draft period was, and still is a good injection of talent. No problems there. Good on Watto for finding some form but Duursma beats him simply for being a better total package. This isn't the first time we've had a high draft pick talent start slowly (Ben10 anyone?).

RHJ was looking pretty grim as a MSD punt but has looked promising recently.

So many players that need time, just need experienced heads around them.

List management should be looking at an additional small forward and some experienced bigger bodies.

We can't address all of our deficiencies but we can mitigate them for now and address the ones out of control.

22, 40 is 110 points more than 14.

If needed, swap 40 for f2

Someone needs to tell Clarkson that “experience” isn’t why Hawthorn just won a final.
Yeah it had nothing to do with experienced players like Gunston (33), Sicily (29), Frost (31), Amon (29), Scrimshaw (26), Worpel (25), Breust (33), Impey (29), Hardwick (27), Nash (26), Morrison (25), Moore (25), Chol (27), Meek (26).

Sure we can, just need the list space.

We're not gifting you a first round pick. We've got Logue, Dawson, Corr and Comben while the games trends towards small forwards.
LOL i dont think we need your gift with a 1st round pick for Balta
He will get multiple clubs over 1 mil but is probably worth more in a trade

But thank you for you reply

Next year is make or break. Hawks won 15 of Mitchell’s first 50…. Now 14 of 18.

It can turn and turn quickly if the right calls are made.
We might be 2 years away from where the Hawks were at the start of 2024.

They have balance in their list. More than that, they have decided on a bold, innovative strategy and recruited around that. They have been thrifty with recruiting role players and diversified their use of draft capital.

We have bludgeoned away at the draft picking inside mids for 8 and now possibly 9 years.

Still missing the other wing.
Still missing a single pressure forward.
Still missing a single reliable rebounding defender.
Still only running with a 2m flanker as our single KPF.
Still missing a hard-nosed midfielder with experience.

We should be making comparisons with the Hawks as much as with Sydney, GWS or Brisbane for the good that will do us. Apart from a couple of years where they were better than us but towards the bottom of the ladder, there is no comparison. We are worlds apart.

Mahony was very unlucky to be delisted and cops a bad rap on here. Not a huge goal scorer but a committed player.
Nah mate, had neat skill and a truckload of application, but just not good enough, quick enough and overall his impact on matches was minimal. Imo. Or something.

The Baby Hawks Myth

Meanwhile our age group is what LMacs and Corrs?

Hello Scotts era…again

So you think any of those players would have made a difference compared to the seven changes of coach across those five years?

If they'd recruited Ambrosius instead of KDawson then right now you'd be into Rady for recruiting 15 hbfers while we end up playing Kerch and Sheezel down there anyway.
What I think is you reason away the poor decisions made by our Recruitment and List Management Team with if Player X ended up at North then he would be no good anyway. It’s an idiotic argument. :stern look

I think we let the media dictate our msd picks.
If cal says payne will go pick 1 we take him.
Grow a set of balls.
You don’t really believe this? You do know that the media reports what clubs tell them is likely, not the other way around?
