You never know, could be like Waitey who played the majority of his career at Carlton but the reception he and his family got at North, considers himself a North person through and through. Fact.

Now that Simmo isn’t their coach, his relationship with our club and our coach - I am pretty sure we would have a great read and insight into what we are getting and what we aren’t with Jack Darling. So if we get him I’m pretty confident the pros outweigh the cons.
Daresay Brady has a fair idea already from his time as midfield coach and list manager there.

Darling is pressing North for 2 years guaranteed with a trigger for a 3rd year. He wouldnt leave otherwise. The $800k for 2025 is spread across the 2 years plus North adding approx $100k across those 2 years as well. Effectively Darling being paid $450k per year. No WCE salary dump at all. The draft capital WCE to receive from North in return is something in the 40's.

Oh well, no deal

Marchbank can play but always injured wouldnt mind giving him a train on spot over the summer to go for the lti spot when brayden george goes on the LTI

Jack Martin could be a free backup option as a small forward likewise cuningham
Do we still have room for Tex Wanganeen?

Dangling the carrot to Crows for pick 4 so they can make a play for Sharp.

Draper, Armstrong and GMan is gizworthy.

The near future

Archer, Logue, Chom
Bergman, Dawson, Hardeman
Goater, Sheezel, Scott
McKercher, Gerreyn, Armstrong
Draper, Larkey, Curtis
Xerri LDU Wardlaw
Powell, Zurhaar, Duursma, RHJ/ Rosas

Simpkin, George, Stephens, Tucker, Fisher, Goad, Payne, Phillips, Elmo, Ford, K.Dawson

We must be confident of climbing the ladder next yr. I am not sure I really like trading away potentially a future top 4 pick.
Don't even need to climb too far, will be pushed back from academy and f/s bids. This year's draft is looking way stronger, want as many pix as possible this year and do what you gotta do to bring in talent now to speed up the rebuild, before we hit super compromised drafts thanks to Tassie. If we brought in Houston and Parker, and perhaps an Owies and I assume Darling which takes pressure off Larkey/Zurhaar/Duursma, Curtis, along with the natural progression of Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKercher et al.....not out of the question to jump up to 10.....in that context, that draft pick probably ends up somewhere around 15 in the open draft.

Let me tell you something, I don't want any more comparisons between Jack Darling and Jarrad Waite, Shaun Higgins, Wayne Carey, Brett Chandler, Paul Geister, Glenn Gorman, Wade Kingsley or in fact anyone.

I would have thought that's pretty standard - he's not moving a young family for much less. So long as the trigger includes a fair part of the 2026 season (meaning he's still a contributor) then it's fair enough, barring our pick 40 which I think we should be using in the draft

What happened to Jack Martin? He looked like an emerging jet.

We got Wardlaw and Goad. No need for the political style spin

Yes, but it meant we could get Wardlaw as well as Sheezel. That's what happened.

He arranged a brilliant multi club trade that meant we got another very high pick to go with the one we already had

FUTURE PICKS UP FOR GRABS

NORTH Melbourne is among the clubs open to putting its future first-round pick on the trade table to land another top pick in this year's draft as teams clamour for high end talent.

The strong regard for which recruiters hold the 2024 draft crop has been further exemplified by most clubs expressing they are open to using their future pick to buy into this year's first round.

The majority of clubs are open to either adding an extra first-round pick or attaining a first-round pick in this year's draft by using their future pick as a trade chip.

The Roos are understood to be among them, having put forward a future first-round pick for Port Adelaide star Dan Houston.

North Melbourne holds pick No.2 at this year's draft, behind Richmond at No.1. The Roos have used 10 first-round picks in the past four drafts, including seven in the past two years for the likes of Harry Sheezel, George Wardlaw, Colby McKercher and Zane Duursma.

Only Jason Horne-Francis is no longer at the club from that group of Roos' first-round picks as they piece together a talented young group. – Callum Twomey
Yes, 10 first round picks…

… including picks 20, 22, 23,
