Membrey said mabye but he had others to speak to first.
So we pursued Darling.

I've been listening to SEN and I don't recall any part where we said no to Membrey, or he said yes to us. The vibe was more why we aren't more linked to him. I can see giantroo is lurking which means the links will be up soon.

I've never seen him take a contested mark which would have come in handy with our disposal into our F50.

Funnily enough he and Darling both took pretty much the same amount of contested marks in 2024 (not many).

Jack might've had an AFL premiership but here right now he was trembling - He was in the presence of leaders with 3x B&Fs between them and more importantly a **** ton of "goodblokesness". What if he made the wrong move, said the wrong thing? Would they still want him?

Unfortunately for this offseason at least I can’t see us attracting anyone with great value. It’s why Darling might be the best we can do. It’s not a great reality but it is what it is. Potentially a few delisted players might be upgrades so we should still look at all options.

But we don't need to, players of the highest value should be from the club itself, those from the outside are supplements

I suspect that the club might have put the feelers out to both, but when it came time to weigh up Darling's professionalism and training approach against Membrey's well documented mental health battles (NTTAWWT) one would have been considered more of a flight risk than the other.

Thats it, club probably tried and we are last on the Vic clubs list he would want to, which is fair. No competition for Darling but we need to move aggressively due to his personal family circumstances etc.
