Stop using logic to make a point. This is Bigfooty!Houston is a proven player - draft picks are a lucky dip.
Splitting pick 2 for a 6/12 and handing 12 over to poort won’t be the end of the world but could help us move up. Will also make us more attractive to other players looking to move.

Good points. I'm still unconvinced as to whether playing like million dollar men for a quarter and a half and playing like garbage for most of the rest of it is better than sticking with teams and being slightly outclassed. I'd say Cunners was cooked, so cross him off, but the rest of them, fair enough, especially Thomas.Last year we had Ziebell, Cunnington, Goldstein, Thomas and Kayne Turner who were all either talented or strong enough to finish a game. They are all done this year but that experience and talent in Thomas' case makes a huge difference just in being able to finish games.
Last year we had no patches where we tore teams apart for extended periods but then gave up big leads. We couldn't even play like that most of the year. Teams just outplayed us across games. The players that did that good stuff this year will be older ie stronger and fitter, this year so theoretically they should be able to maintain that effort for longer and not lose games at the death.
There you goAmen.
The ability to win it inside and deliver it outside and kick goals? If he'd applied himself to football with as much commitment as he applied to being a shit bloke then not only do I think he would have been a player he'd have been in the league's top handful

I know this is slight exaggeration, but Geelong have been doing this - give or take a few AFL first round hand outs - for the last 15 years.May as well trade your top pick every year if your logic is "we could draft a bust"
The individual we are building around is Sheezel.
There are players who have shown they can currently play elite seasons:
LDU, Xerri, Larkey
That is our current core. All of whom are young enough to be playing elite footy when Sheezel is physically mature.
You can split the rest of the group into:
- Developing with potential but raw
- Further along the development curve (there is a mix here of elite potential and above average/average potential)
- would need to have something change to climb out of average
- not the answer long term, will likely put themselves through the grinder for the club in the short term
- Not gonna make it
True and in our case we were talking about splitting ours for a particular draft.I know this is slight exaggeration, but Geelong have been doing this - give or take a few AFL first round hand outs - for the last 15 years.

Absolutely. Look, it’s encouraging at least that the heads at North are doing what they can to try to attract quality, attract needs and be pragmatic with the 24 & 25 draft picks.True and in our case we were talking about splitting ours for a particular draft.
No idea if Houston is interested but the possibility of starting tot even up our inside 50 count with him at HB and Mckercher/Fisher up the field may get a few more wins and attract some FA/trade prospects later. Plus we need the LDUs to actually sign.
Even if we wanted another mid at 6 and a tall at 10/12, there seems to be a blanket of mids that could go either at 2, or 6.
Ok, got an answer (and a good one at that).
I was wondering for a good hour or so what or who was our core.
Larkey, LDU, Xerri, Harry, George, Duursma, McKercher, Simpkin, Scott, Corr! We are only part way to establishing the core there.
Only one of them may not be playing in 2027, but could be if all goes swimmingly in the next 2 years.
What would you do OF? In all honesty, I can see both sides of the argument and don't think it's clear either way.
I'm firmly in the don't trade with Port under any circumstances bandwagon as well. Not that they don't have something we need, but they just know how to beat us at trading, we are a soft target for them and I feel that will continue for some time, unfortunately.
To stop people from leaving earlyThere'll be a party at North's joint in 2-3 years we'll need a bouncer at the door for.
And where would we be if West Coast didn't split theirs, a couple seasons back?We probably could too if we could consistently find talent from other avenues the way they do
(Not against Houston either, just the logic that we should trade a top three pick because draft picks aren't guaranteed is flawed)
Strange comparison given the age difference. Future third is steak knives - not a 7 pick upgrade in the first round. So let’s be generous and say he was traded for roughly a mid/high teens pick, I’d be fine paying that for Houston.
And where would we be if West Coast didn't split theirs, a couple seasons back?
For a particular draft, it suited the teams involved.
Anyone who can pick the top 6 mids in the order they go this draft should buy a lotto ticket.
Parfitt would be handy as a DFA.

Who are the core?
it's 2 more, if you can count which i doubt!
We have drafted Dawson and Coad, yay 2 KPP and our best player just turned 20 and polled what, 14 votes in 3 winning games!
Same .. he’d be a huge improvement on LazzaroI'd happily take him. Can play multiple roles, has good defensive intensity and is a player in the age bracket where we lack.
He'd increase our depth considerably.
Can we please, just never again deal with Port?
Very much agree with your second sentence, I wonder if the eagles would agree with your first re: Kelly.
