Had a chance to get Jasper Scaife in the mid season draft. Think he kicked 2 in his first and 4 in his second for box Hill after the draft and relocating across the country. Kid looks an absolute weapon and exactly what we needed.
Well, yes that is very true, but the last three years we've kept an eye on the key forwards in this draft, hence why we are getting one this year, we could have picked Logan Mcdonald, like the media screamed at us for not selecting the "generational forward", but maybe, just maybe, we've got huge wraps on a certain player in six weeks time.

Yep, we ****ed up not picking Logan. Didn't go with Scaife, hopefully go with another West Perth lad, the G Bus.

When sheez and G.W are 25 and about to hit their prime LDU will be 31 and on the decline. The chasm of shit draft pics between will cost us. I'm not sure continuing to hit the draft at this stage is the right path.

We have some players with pretty good upside in that age range. Nothing that screams superstar for most of them, but definitely some blokes that can carve an admirable career: Scott, Comben, Powell, Archer, Bergman, Goater, Paul Curtis.

Right now I'd say Powell and Scott are guaranteed, whilst limited. The others show good promise. It's really not great. 2018 Thomas and 2020 Phillips first round **** ups are glaring.

Comben is just about our most exciting footballing talents

I can’t see archer going backwards

Nor Curtis for that matter

Goater is really the only speculative one on that list an his upside is enormous.

Don't disagree with any of that. It's still not a massive haul but, all bar Curtis have spent more time in rehab than playing.

Sure thing. Being in the Comben fan club you get a little pair of pliers to extract your heart from your mouth whenever he flies.

Arch couldn’t play 2 afl games in a row until this year. And Goater is coming back from and Achilles.

So in typical north fashion our young guns are typically injured

TS is suggesting the recruiters didn't rate Logan (but apparently rated Thilthorpe in that year) or Scaife (must have rated Payne more a chance of making AFL and already had Finbar?) otherwise they would have picked them.
I suspect they took Teakle because CCJ went down and he was a better fwd/ruck option.
Now whether they should have taken Ricciardi, Lord, Lemmy or Scully etc. at a late pick in the previous drafts is a fair question and would be something we'd all like to know.

If they take one or two key forwards in this draft then I don't think we'll really care all that much about Scaife in the MSD. There Q&A comments about developing forwards taking a couple of years suggests they will draft one at least and/or they also see the promise in Finbar.

The shit truck in McDonald who hasn't improved one iota in 5 years who gets 7 kicks 2 handballs 1 tackle and on average 1.4 goals a game.

Who has that midfield and system delivering the ball to him. Over 5 years gets less than 10 possessions a game.

Has he turned 30 in the last few days?

By the time the off-season is done, Sphynx will have Houston in a retirement home, having played 0 games for us whilst us giving up pick 2 and F1...

That's what you are asking for downgrade our first two picks in 24 and 25 to get Housten and two end of first round picks.

For a bloke who wants to go to carlton , and it no stage has ever said he would come to north.

Who would be thirty when two top five players, ie another Harry Colby George or Zane would be playing.

He plays a relatively 'clean' position and a position of more and more importance as dozens of scores are launched from HB these days.

We could very well get 6-8 elite years out of Houston with his resilience. Zorko just smashed a season and GF at 35, and Houston is a much better kick and defender than him imo.

Houston has hardly missed a game over his career.

Or you could get 13 years out of two top 5 picks

Housten is a bandaid fix. If was out of contract he would be a late frust rounder.

Port wanting two first round draft picksp requiring us to downgrade two top 4 picks is ****ing delusional

What an embarrassing press release for the club. Player only joining out of desperation….

Pull the offer and move onto Daniel.
It isn't a press release, it is a tweet from a journo, with the usual inflammatory North biased twist.

The exact same information could be written;

"Dan Houston's highest priority is to get to a Victorian team, he would happily accept offers on the table from both Carlton and North Melbourne. Given the choice, his preference would be Carlton, but understands they may not have the trade collateral to get the deal done. Also, for some reason and despite having less to offer, Collingwood arrogantly thinks they should still be an option too."

Perfectly said.

Let’s step up the Bunsen-burner under fisher and Stephens in the mean time. Force some change. And draft quality

6-8 elite years? 🤣

Here’s the list of that age group from now, for the entire comp.

List me the 2024 elite players please. And not on reputation.

You get 10 good players by adding one good player 10 times.

And Houston only having 2-3 good years left...LOL

Well he would need to be a statistical outlier, I.e the one or two exceptions in the entire completion, to mainin an elite level into his 30’s

There’s only probably 10 thousand examples of players hitting the decline at the 30.

He will no doubt still be more than handy, but we have an AA caliber player for around 2 seasons if we recruit him.

We will have a good AFL player from then on. I.E Goldstein Dal Santo etc
