Danger is at career lows in every statistical category now (other than i50). He's almost as cooked as Fyfe the only difference being he can still run meaning they can start him at half forward. As opposed to us who have to start Fyfe either on the bench or with an even closer view of Oppo mids busting out of the front of the stoppage unchecked in the middle..
He's definitely not what he used to be but still an effective player when fit.

Oh yeah ... our midfield was a big Achilles heel 😱.

The beauty of bringing in an explosive match winner in Bolton, it'll increase the value of steady role players in the mix. The string to the kite kind of thing.

I will never like the father son rules until Pav and Mundy Jr come play for us. I really think you should be able to trade draft rights to a play on draft night like the NBA.

When the trade with Luka and Trae happened it was insane. Image something like that happened in the AFL

West Coast considering splitting their first rounder again. A split split? How low can they go. They are just flat out trolling their supporters at this point

Honestly I don’t get the haters around their trading - they needed multiple players, not just the sole player you’d get with pick 3. Right now they’ve turned pick 3 into what’s likely to be 3 best 23 players for the next 6+ years. If they slide slightly from pick 12 because ithey still get the player they want and another later pick then why not?

Also reckon they have done really well out of Barrass trade which sucks. At least it means I can really support the hoks next year - here’s hoping we reverse the 2013 result on them!

As a Hawks fan I was not expecting to get hit with this on the Freo board ;)

AFL needs to do a lot more, no father/son would be a fantastic start. Force the clubs to trade up to get them if they really really want the connection.

It fails in the keep Harley areas imo.
If Harley could see a midfield group that he could grow with, he'd be more likely to stay.
That would be a Top 3 draft pick, that is laden with Vic Metro mid's

It is putrid trading IMHO.

I'd vomit in my mouth if I went for West Coast. They could've had Sheezel and Reid running around together. Then added another elite talent this year. Instead they've added 5 B and C grade players to their list.

Quality not quantity.

The problem is they need both quality & some decent mid tier players to support.

Sheezel is hardly playing in a winning side.

It’s the how & why of their rebuild. My opinion is when you get a swing at the top 3 you take it but if they honestly believe you can throw a blanket over the top 15 or so then it’s bang for buck. Seems unlikely but that’s the reasoning.

I get it and it's only my opinion.

I'd be pissed if Freo did it.

I'm in two minds about West Coast. I can still see some level of reasoning behind their decisions but given their list profile and the fact they should be loading up pre-Tassie, it does scream desperation to buy a few wins and keep Reid invested. Being a middling side (at best) for the next couple of years while they squeeze the final bit of juice out of their 30+ brigade is fine...until you're left bottoming out in a series of compromised drafts.

Yeah it looks a really desperate attempt to keep Harley. If that's what they are doing I reckon they are ****ed.

FTR, I reckon the best strategy would have been getting the most elite talent they could and convince Harley it was his team. If they nailed the other top end picks, maybe Harley could see the vision.

They could have still grabbed the Graham types just to pad it out and make them semi-competitive. They seem to have gone more of a bet each way.

If they're putting all of their eggs in the Warner basket to get Reid to stay, they may be prepared to offer an unconscionable deal, which will only affect the quality of depth across the rest of the team.

Warner's not that good though, nobody is.

You can't shortcut your way to a quality team. You need lots of good players, they have like 10 and most are 27 or older.

100% agree. If nothing else they just need more elite young talent through the door - for their players under 23 how many are people sure about will be good? Reid's obviously a freak, Hough's a nice half back and then questions start popping up left and right. Hewett had a good first year but foot injuries are never good. Williams has shown some nice things, will he progress? What actually is Ginbey? They need some of these guys to seriously come on otherwise it looks bleak

It's more likely then not Richmond will be expansion level bad next year and 26 as well, but if they hit on this draft and start showing something in 2026, with how little money they have tied up suddenly becomes a very real Harley contender for mine

It's crazy to me that they haven't seemed remotely interested in extracting a bit more draft capital from their list to accelerate the rebuild. Barrass is really the only one I can think of and he forced their hand.

I'm just a BigFooty nuffie but it seems like 2022 would have been an ideal window to read the tea leaves and make some tough decisions.

They hit the wall two years before Richmond but the latter has beaten them to the cleanout.

Yeah exactly. It'll be incredibly interesting to see the paths those two teams take over the next 5 or so years.

We're also an interesting comparison. I'd say by and large the list management team have done well to assemble a squad which looks well-placed to contend for a decent period of time, bar a couple of missteps and setbacks. From purely a list talent perspective, Freo are a decent marker and it's taken the better part of a decade to get to this point. If you consistently **** up your picks or don't commit to refreshing the entire squad (e.g., Essendon) it can really hamstring a club.

So it would be truly, truly awful if West Coast continue to convince themselves that they can refresh their squad quickly and cheaply by topping up.
