See some comments on the other side about waiting for the bid on draft night before trading. Im trying to get my head around it. Assuming that was the case the deal will be set up before hand and then the call would be made.

What I don't get is if we are the trade target and the likely bidder and the deal is agreed in advance we just execute the bid on the night regardless because why the hell not.

They won't pick another player in place of acquiring 2 players of first round quality by going through with the deal.

Guess my question is what other reason is there to wait? Am I missing something?

PS sorry if it's been covered, apparently people are touchy about that thing atm lol

If anyone wants to play: Is there a better deal for Essendon then one we can offer for P9.

Below is the current draft order 8/10 and DVI.

BID Needs to be worked off pick 7.
  • Essendon can’t take back a first rounder this year as mentioned by Mat Mann
  • Need to give currency for Kako, Dons will get a 20% reduction on the 1644 at P7. So you need to find 1315 points to match.
  • club will need to provide a future first and likely finish below us.

I genuinely think it’s a fair deal for them and a good deal.
The Dees could also offer them a similar deal - we know they are looking to trade their F1 to Freo to get back into this years draft, why not trade with Essendon?

I personally think that we’re finishing lower than Melbourne next year and have a slightly better second round pick this year so our offer is a better deal, but they do have options if Melbourne are open to a similar trade

Can’t see who else would really be around the mark - our F1 is clearly going to be better than Carlton, Dogs, Collingwood, etc, and our second round pick is better than all of those teams

Dees F1 + 28 is right around the mark, especially if the Dons think the Dees will regress further with all their issues

Cooney got stuck into the Bulldogs on SEN earlier.
Said they aren't playing them, and how about a bit of respect from the club towards two premiership players.

Said last night this is the tip of the iceberg re the Bulldogs culture and their treatment of their people.
Something very rotten at that club. The next Melbourne.

Tell the Dees we'll let them have Tim Membrey, Jack Hayes and Ben Paton for nothing if they refrain from getting involved with Essendon's Kako bid

Awful footy club.

Dees are working on P11 from Freo.

Also they get more points from our 27 and they will need those points if the Dees bid at 5. We can protect the Dons until p10 if they trade with us.

Also next year. Oliver Petracca and pick 5. I wouldn’t be risking that. They might.

Wouldn’t the Dees prefer pick 9 from Essendon over pick 11 from Freo?

If it’s a straight swap 11 for Melbourne’s F1 then sure that’s a better deal, but if 28 goes back then trading with Essendon is obviously the better result

Melbourne on paper don’t project to offer a lower F1 then us.

They are keeping Oliver so expect him to be fit. Trac to be fit and they will have P5.

I know we’re in off-season optimism mode but trading our future first for pick 9 is a terrible idea. We were basically a kick away from bottom four this year, way too risky to trade potentially a top 3-5 pick for a far less valuable pick 9. Unless Nick Daicos and Lachie Neale are magically appearing in our midfield next year our first rounder must be untouchable.

That would mean Membrey to the Dons and Compo too.

Something similar to Graham today and we would have plenty of currency.
Hope so, but I can’t see it at his age, likely salary and prob max 2 years? Graham 4 year contract and young. A 3rd would be very handy, but the scoring would have to be very loose down there.

It's likely that 30-40% of next year's draft will be Father Son's, Academies or Compensation picks. In what may be a weaker crop of talent. Our Pick next year could start at 5-10 (I don't think even in a worst case we finish bottom 4) and then balloon out to Pick 10-15 of an overall weaker crop.

I'm taking Pick 9 this year every day of the week. 7, 8 and 9 is a very unique draft position with clubs desperate to get back in or get up the board we can take the players we want and control the action.

But the rubbish tip wasn't so posh.

Don't judge me, took 2 minutes.

Late picks are worth Jack Shit except for matching bids. That's the whole flaw in the system.

How good is next year's draft?

Based on? We weren’t that far off this year.
