The only way I’d consider this trade/draft period a success is if we end up with Lalor, Smith, O’Sulllivan or Draper on our list.

Nothing else really matters. Pick 8 is fools gold, pick 9 a distraction / fantasy and so not worth the price to obtain it.

How do punters on here balance the contradiction of the draft being super even from 8-30 yet pen 1000 pages of pick 9 love letters..??

Could not be more thrilled were after pick 3. I honestly don’t even care what it costs. There are a clear available top 4 (as there are every year), so let’s just put one on our list.

Wonder who is our target at 3. Highly likely Lalor and FOS are gone especially if North trade pick 2. Maybe Langford is who the pimple is after? Tall marking goal kicking midfielder that offers a POD. We have enough speed in the team to offset his slowness.

If North trade out pick 2 and we had pick 3 would you pick up Taru?

Currently in this years draft Gold Coast have picks -
6 (1751pts)
13 (1212pts)
23 (815pts)
29 (653pts)
41 (412pts)
50 (273pts)
78 (0pts)

If we bid on Lombard with Pick 7 (1644pts) then Gold Coast will need 1315pts to get him (that's with the 20% discount) .... so they could use pick 29, 41 & 50 (1338pts) to get him ..... which leaves them with pick 13, 23, 78 ...... but in next year's draft they also have Beau Addinsall & Zeke Uwland coming through (both could be top 10 picks) so they need pts for next year to match those bids

So trading out this years 13 for our F1 & F2 would give them close to 1500pts next year which would match a bid around pick 5 or 6 after the 20% discount ...would at least get them one of those players

Gold Coast want picks for next year .... as they can already cover a relatively high bid this year for Lombard

I guessing we are confident of hitting Free Agency next year and getting players we want so we don't care to much about next years draft especially if we can get 3 picks in the top 13 this year

If we do get 13 it would be stupid to couple it with 8 to jump up to 3 ..... it would mean we are giving up 8 + F1 + F2 for 3 .... we would want something extra back like WC pick 26

Or we just hit the draft with 7, 8 & 13

Or pick 8 & 13 (F1 & F2) for 3 & 26

So we go to the draft with 3, 7, 26, 27 ... but we give up F1 & F2

Or maybe I am on the wrong track

Their next pick is 46 (not very useful) .... but maybe we could trade pick 3 for their pick 4 + F2 .... how desperate are they for Draper?

We could easily trade-in some futures with live trading on draft night.

St Kilda will hope the Western Bulldogs’ desperation to get Jackson Macrae’s salary off their books will see them accepting a late future pick as the Saints cool their interest on ruckman Ivan Soldo.
Triple All Australian Macrae finished only 20th in the Western Bulldogs best-and-fairest after being handed the subs vest four times and is due a significant wage above $800,000 for the next two years of a contract with three seasons remaining.
The Bulldogs are bemused that it took over three weeks for the Saints to make any contact about Macrae after he declared his interest to move from Whitten Oval to Moorabbin.

But the Saints have a walkaway point in the potential trade, simply unwilling to impact a 2024 draft hand that is currently at picks seven, eight, 27 and 47.
They are hoping the Dogs will accept a future third or fourth-rounder for the 30-year-old who they pushed to high half forward for much of the year when he was in the senior side.
Given he is due over $2 million in salary obligations, the Saints are happy to absorb that salary but unwilling to give up a pick of any substance.
They will make their midfield a priority with picks seven and eight so are keen on Macrae as midfield depth but not at the expense of their draft hand

Ralph reporting Bulldogs keen to get the 2.4 mill off their books.

This could actually be the most unintentionally brilliant post right here.

Think about those players like Nas & Pou, what better way to keep talent than to get proactive in the draft early on, play finals and attract amazing talent.

Push for 3, 7 & 13, show we are leaving no stone unturned for this group. Give the draftees an extra year to gel, go hard for free agents next year.

Sounds obvious, but the sooner we bring the talent in, the more likelihood we have of getting serious buy in from our kids to stave off any go home worries.

In short, this could be the best reason yet to put all chips in the draft this year.

Richmond give up an end of 1st, 2nd, 3rd (in a deep strong draft) as well as Baker for our F1 and an F2. I'd be pretty disappointed in that.

We will be picking from the same pool of VIC WA SA kids we always do. QLD and NSW adding extra players to the overall pool should not make 2025 a bad draft it may not be as deep as this one but there will be plenty of good players in the open pool like every year or maybe more specifically like last year when the Allies had a bumper crop and won the Championship but the VIC teams were still full of talent.

The fact that there will be northern clubs needing points means the opportunity to trade up will be there for the teams with 2nds and 3rds in 2025 so we should be trying to add to our F2 and F3 this year if possible. Happy to sell the F1 for 13 but keen to get something back F2 or F3 to help get back into the first round next year.

Got to hit the draft hard over the next 2 years and add to our draft hand before Tassie comes in. Can’t afford to skip a draft.

If the draft doesn’t have the depth then losing a number of top end kids to FS/academies etc is a major issue. Hence the trading out and complete abandonment from clubs re 2025 draft for 2024

Not the ideal option but I'm guessing we will draft the best available state ruckman that has a bit of experience late in the draft - if we can't find a Soldo alternative before the end of the trade period which seems likely.
