Fitness is slightly concerning if I may say so myself. Players look utterly gassed by the 4th quarter, more so than in previous years.

Perhaps that's just that we're playing a less experienced side the first 2 weeks.
Makes you wonder what they were doing in the preseason Walshy, if they’re not fit enough to run out a game.

Really surprised how some people thought we could actually cover the loss of Newman, supposedly with these so called ready to go youth

His skillset and leadership has always been severely underrated
Sam Docherty says hi... from the wrong part of the ground.

Pick 1 of Curnow or McKay and don’t play the other. Having 2 non competitive talls in our forward line is asking for the dogs to rebound without any pressure at all.

Play them both and read the riot act.
It’s not lack of physical ability or talent holding them back.

Harry was one of the best key forwards in the comp last year and one of our best players full stop. Had a fantastic year.

You're overreacting to a few poor games.
A key forward without a presence/meek attitude (physically & mentally). That needs to be reversed. Too much pansy.

Still see all too often the traits raised, and he’ll go to water vs standing up (just like his brother).
They’re taking the pi$$

Were u saying this last year when he was playing as clearly our best KPF for the majority of the year?

Seems to just be another post Richmond melt from a long list of supporters unhappy with 1 terrible game by the club. Harry has been fantastic in terms of presence and attitude since about half way through 2023.

Gotta come down to game style pushed by the coach.
Crash and bash, rinse repeat.
Would wear anyone out.

He works as hard as anyone on his game, but he's also very suspect in key moments. Pressure does get to him.

Having said that, he clearly wasn't right against the Tigers. He had all the balance of Costa after umpteen Izzy leg kicks.

Voss, assistants and Charlie need to embrace 1 of 2 concepts

Either he roams the 50, push up the ground and doubles back, etc

Or

Starts from the square, lead hard at the drop of the ball

I'm over the wrestling
His ability to bring the ball to ground when outnumbered 2-3 on 1 was a big reason why we were up at half time.

Lost a number of contests he shouldn't have after half time but people claiming he was liability must've been watching a different game of footy.

Short of a gallop but mobility much better than the majority of last season. Keen to see how he goes once he's got his fitness and touch back (notoriously slow after a long layoff is Charlie).

Yes!
Same traits are always there.
Comments from non-Carlton supporters = the same view of his mental/physical shortfalls, which shouldn’t be there.
RFI still remains on the points listed to be a KEY PF.

Voss’s game style is overly taxing, how many times did we dump kick it out of our d50 on Thursday for it to come straight back in. There’s no respite.

How often do we move the ball from contest to contest then throw it onto the boot to yep, another contest.
Voss encourages more stoppages and it just wears the players out.

There is a lot to think about. Do we play Boyd, do we move Hollands back to a wing? I'm happy to keep the team together. Structurally it's not bad. The main issue is we are carrying players who just need game time but will come good. That and not getting much out of our forwards.

I wanted to see players improve and improve their touch and we saw that, though some have ways to go.

McGovern Weitering Cowan
Saad Haynes Hollands
Acres Cripps Camporeale
White McKay Kemp
Motlop Curnow Williams
DeKoning Cerra Walsh
Silvagni Docherty Hewett Cottrell
Boyd

IN:
White - Lets see how his pace and craft translate at AFL level.
McKay - Obviously
Boyd - Could be an ideal sub, allows us to change the defensive structure

OUT:
Fogarty - Been doing very little, low level player.
Young - Could nearly stay in but for mobility and flexibility purposes he is out.
Lord - I like him but just can't find a place at the moment.

Teams that play with three tall forwards usually have two up the ground and one deep. Seems to draw the defence up and make space deeper and allows teams to get the ball to that half area easier. Which for us is a problem. We tend to go long and byepass half forward. Hopefully having more strong targets in the area keeps our ball movement going and helps us get possession there before going inside 50.

Campo can have another change, I thought he was ok.

There are a few guys who are really out of touch who look to be better this week so should be better next.

Silvagni to play back and a little forward. Part of the taller rotations. Docherty the same. Part of the smaller rotations.
We should mould Silvagni into a Sicily type

Play backline but when thrown forward offers a dynamic look as well

Option 1 surely!

Get on the move - endurance, speed, agility, forward craft - anything other than wrestle!!

Believe Kingy will have some Carlton content on First Crack tonight, areas of improvement from our players I.e. handball chains currently being cut short = poor entries & kicking (it’s not our preferred game plan).

Hopefully we can make it click again vs Bulldogs and then continue on vs Collingwood…& on, & on.

It takes two sides to contest the ball and expend energy, the Hawks players who were in those repeated contests didn’t seem to tire as much or have a drop off in skill execution as our players.

They still had the energy to create outside run and movement of the ball and were a lot cleaner in transitioning into their forward line even in the last quarter.

We still persisted and kicked 4 points to their 3.1 in the last so we had as many looks. Whether it’s fitness, skills or ability to run and perform under game fatigue, the Hawks were just a little better in each area.

Our midfield group is low on numbers (quality). Putting Fogarty in the rotations here + cameos from ZW & Motlop, though prefer them to actually impact as small forwards & the scoreboard.
Acres can interchange through the wing (Kemp) plus moving parts deep FF with JSOS & CC and relief inside the centre square.

OUT:Young-Fog-Haynes/Gov

Kemp back.

Charlie from the goal square not roaming.
Harry as second ruck not Cripps.
We can’t keep moving players back and forth from defence to offence and vice versa

We need some team stability as well.

H Charlie and kemp have to learn to play as a forwards team

more effective and more enjoyable game style helps players find more energy …ours on the other hand is just a hard slog fest with little enjoyment

When things go as planned there is a natural buy in from Players…=> more collective team efforts

Missing targets, dropping marks, basic errors & fundamentals going MIA makes it look harder than it is.

They were having plenty of fun until 1/2 way the 2nd quarter vs RFC. Some resilience to absorb the pressure and some skill execution goes a long way.

Already been mentioned, but like to see how Kemp goes as the genuine 3rd with Harry & Charlie both in.

And a Boyd/White/Moir option would be welcome.

We shouldn’t be too reactive with wholesale dumping of preseason plans preemptively, except where in-game tactics require it.

No Nostradamus here, but results in the next two games against strong opponents will set the early season tone and momentum. Season not gone by any stretch, but the pathway narrows the longer we take to get going.

With the Thursday night games, my weekends have been ruined. Would be nice to be more cheerful over the next couple. 🙂
