You would think the cats have enough law breakers, that they shouldn’t be one to be able to be in the hunt for him

Wait til tanner bruhn’s court case too
Lol. Someone at cats tipped off a very prominent ex-player early in his career that vicpol were looking at him for trafficking. They are well covered. They're also an easy pork barrel for government elections (i.e. stadium upgrades) which only make sense if they're good and have growing membership/crowd to fill it out

Personally I'm hoping we've figured out Melbourne's playbook by bringing fwd the first rounder each year. Gives us an extra year of dev into a 1st rounder (pick 27 lol) at the same time we start ascending the ladder
Viney was part of that Dees playbook with Jason Taylor, so he'd be well aware of the strategy.
It likely depends on the LDU situation (if he leaves we'll have picks obviously) and/or whether we have trade targets.
Brady and Will suggested we may not be drafting as strongly (I suspect a couple of kids) given the kids we have already.

North, *, GWS and WCE all have two R2's, but WCE and * have two R1's already, so they may not need to move up or into the order with futures all that urgently. They may even trade those picks for players like Reid or Warner.
We need to do it during trade week and lock in a pick number vs waiting for draft night though.
I think with F/S kids in 2026 we may need some points next year to consider as well.
Trade week and draft night will be interesting, depending what picks we hold.

I’m seeing a lot of names, but none of them fix our biggest issues A midfield that runs one way and can’t kick inside 50.
Attitude and team first mentally. The current group need to put their own interests and stat sheets aside.

Another Brady Rawlings master stroke “delisting” mason wood. Piss off brady Rawling your a cancer to the football club.
Mate. Stfu. Wood was shithouse for us. We gave him 8 years to become a player. EIGHT YEARS. The fact he didn't isn't Brady's fault and he had to go.

Some players need a change to thrive and get the best of themselves. They need a different club environment. Waite and Higgins were both inconsistent at the blues and dogs before they came to us and gave good service.

You're being harsh on Rawlings on this occasion especially since 99% people on here wanted Wood axed anyway.

Not really mate says the development of the club. If you haven’t realised cutting so deep is what has stuffed the list also recruiting midfielders and midfielders only midfielders with no point of difference then I don’t know what you’re seeing. “Exclude Sheezel and Wardlaw” The guy has no clue north Melbourne always going the cheap option what credentials does he have building a list?. Supporters always accepting mediocre performance on and off the field is a reason why they are where there at. Let me reiterate this to you 15 wins in 5 years why is the case. Watch the Melbourne midfield today run rings around a so called midfield which is suppose to be our strength and not defend. The list is so unbalanced

I had convinced myself that I wouldn’t need to check this thread in 2025 and that there would be noticeable improvement, but it’s round two and here I am…

We desperately need another FOS type in our midfield, someone with the will, ability and physicality to run both ways and impact the contest.

I know I’m going to get shot dead in reaction for saying this heresy, but fixing up our imbalanced midfield is a priority.

We also desperately need some “pull goals out of your arse” small forwards. We work so hard it seems to kick goals, it would be handy to have a player like Harvey, Thomas etc who can make the miraculous happen out of nowhere.

Step 1: work out whether LDU will actually sign.

Step 2: if not going to sign, leave a heap of brochures of surfing beaches of the south of WA…

Step 3: orchestrate a trade of LDU for Brayshaw + Frederick

Run with the following 2026 midfield:

Hardeman Comben Goater
Scott Brayshaw O’Sullivan
Simpkin Darling Duursma

Xerri Wardlaw Sheezel

I'd love to go after Allen. I doubt Darling will be our drawcard though, as I can't see Darling, Larkey and Allen all in the same forward line. So Darling would have to advocate for Allen to come in and replace him. I don't think JD is anywhere near ready to step away.

Darling has mainly been a 3rd tall most of his career

there's room for a 2nd KPF to come in

No. He was 2nd banana behind Josh Kennedy and now he's 2nd behind Larkey.

As I said, we should chase Allen. We just shouldn't count on Darling to make it happen.

their flag side had lycett and vardy with darling and kennedy so my point being is he was the third tallest in that forward line often as they had the resting ruck there

then the last few years with allen and waterman plus darling and their ruck

we are currently playing one less KPP than most teams, refer to my 3 talls vs 2 talls thread

I am not going to refer to your thread, no.
good chat

Why not go for Allan. We have one game now where we've showcased our potential. Darling will have known that he is a stop gap until we have another, ready key forward.

Daydreaming now, but we should definitely be playing finals if we recruit Allan and Maynard, given the natural improvement in our youth. And it would make it very difficult for LDU to leave if he knew we're trying to recruit these players

Wrong mate, most of the third talls are mediums mate.

Morris, Fogarty, Langford et al are mediums as a rule.

Look at last years GF teams.

The ruck argument is false - most aren’t playing 2.

Small forwards are key, do not need 3 fwds.

Two talls and one medium.

Do not agree re: the mediums. Those are key forwards, unless by the same measure Darling is also a medium making it a moot point.

Smalls are the way to go tho, can’t have enough good ones.
