So this is my thinking. I am thinking this could be an all encompassing 21st century mock draft. This is we line up every player drafted in the 21st century as an 18 year old, knowing the players they became and we decide who goes where.

For the draft order I am thinking the current ladder

So

Pick 1 - North Melbourne
Pick 2 - Richmond
Pick 3 - West Coast
Pick 4 - Adelaide
Pick 5 - St Kilda
Pick 6 - Brisbane
Pick 7 - Hawthorn
Pick 8 - Western Bulldogs
Pick 9 - Melbourne
Pick 10 - Gold Coast
Pick 11 - GWS
Pick 12 - Fremantle
Pick 13 - Collingwood
Pick 14 - Geelong
Pick 15 - Port Adelaide
Pick 16 - Essendon
Pick 17 - Carlton
Pick 18 - Sydney

and so on for 3 rounds.

The rules are to treat this like an actual mock draft, so pick the player who is either best available or best suits your list.

So my general idea is people will nominate a club they want to pick for, and hopefully we get enough people who want to participate so we don't have any double ups. I hope to go for 3 rounds but we will see how it goes.

Now the rule here is that you are only able to pick players who were drafted in the 2000 draft or later, I know technically 2000 is not the 21st century but these players would have only started playing in 2001 which is the 21st century. I have also made some lists of players who have won the All Australian at least 3 times, but also included some other awards too, but by no means do you only need to select from the list.

You are also free to nominate someone who has been retired for 5 years, or if you feel really confident, happy to include a player who is only in their second year, if you believe they have enough talent to be ahead of more established players. For instance it would not surprise me if Nick Daicos or Harley Reid end up in the first or second rounds despite having very little experience compared to a lot of players on this list.

well, when i look at the pear list, the first things i think are 'geez, they could do with a first class ruckman and an emerging key forward to take over from dixon'

and then i look at the backline and see aliir, denis*, and esava as their defensive lynchpins and think 'they need a backline general to organise and intercept'

so i'm torn, but as i'm a dees fan and follow the paul roos school of thinking that you build from the backline, it'd be remiss of me not to draft 6x all oztrayan tom stewart into the pear's defensive structure - i think it means that one of denis* or esava becomes a 'as needs' basis player, and stewart can command that defensive structure for the next decade

*long story short, but a peptides fan and i got into the habit of calling bzt btk and thus 'denis rader' - look him up if you like, but nasty pasty to say the least

At his peak, I'd be certainly having this guy ahead of guys not named Zerrett, Caldwell or Durham.

My all time favourite Tiger at pick 16 for Essendon: Mark Coughlan.


Pick 17 for Carlton.

If TDK goes down and Pittonet isn't highly rated, it's not worth throwing Mirkov, Lemmey (though, more a forward) or O'Keeffe into the ruck and be chewed up by rivals.

Time for experience.

Pick 17: Aaron Sandilands.

My feeling is from here there are a lot of mids evenly poised. You could pick Bartel, Daicos, Lewis, Mitchell, Mcluggage, Butters, Kerr, Cousins and be on a winner

I think the original intention was to do 3-4 rounds adding to a team’s list like a pseudo 2024 national draft. In that case keep it as repeating like a normal draft order.

If going on for 22 rounds then snake order probably makes more sense. But that would be a completely different type of mock draft imo and specific teams and existing team lists wouldn’t really matter.

Yes, I think so as well. I think we should go with a regular draft because like you said the original intention is to go 3 or 4 rounds, so it is about improving already existing lists rather than creating entirely new teams.

So we should start round 2 with pick 19 and Sphynx deciding.

I hope that is okay.
 
Reason for selecting Brian Lake-assuming he will slot into Sydney's side is simply because we are short of quality KPD. It was a choice between McGovern and Lake and with the former, a more of a intercept marking CHB and the latter a strong marking FB. Out of Sydney's current KPD duo of McCartin and Melican, Melican is the weaker one and Lake would replace him as the last line of defence.
