Even by BigFooty standards there are some truly moronic posts in this thread.

Anyone labelling a first year ruck a bust has absolutely no clue what they are talking about.

Go look at Max Gawn's first few years in the system peabrains.

Let me tell yah a story Psicosis. Big X was picked up with pick 72. Goad was picked up with pick 20. Yah shouldn’t be coughing up pick 20 on a Project Ruck. Especially when yah take into account how Rucks really don’t win yah games. :stern look
Seperate issue though. I’m not here posting that we should use a late first on ruckman.

I’m here posting that writing a young ruckman off so early is dumb. Xerri (who most had in the delist bucket) a pretty good case in point.

Like we did with Joel Crocker

Crocker was purely a nepotism selection.

Goad would have been drafted by a club no matter what based on his ability showed in underage football.

It’s really not the same.

Fair Enough. I never had X in the delist bucket and it’s clearly too early to tell if Goad will make it or be a bust. My issue is we used pick 20 on a Project Ruck. :stern look

Been plenty of rucks picked early and before you say there forwards as well maybe Goad is s well Read suns pick 9
I could tell you a story but after reading that incoherent dribble above I very much doubt you’d be able to understand it. :stern look

He was projected top 30 Adelaide were keen to take the pick following.

Every North Ruckman North has recruited over the last 20 years has been written

Goldstein
Hale
Goldstein
 Xerri

All were written off as duds in the first 18 months.

The only thing we have done well in the last 20 years is develop and gave A grade ruckmen.

I'll wait another season before throwing the toys out the cot
What? We drafted Goldstein twice? Every North Ruckman North have recruited has been written? On a parchment? I also doubt if I was to tell you another story that you’d be capable of understanding it. :stern look

Hell, even look at the very first post on our Goldstein thread :drunk:

Not sure what everyone’s issue is, if there is one thing we have been good at doing, it’s developing ruckman. Relax, the kid is 18/19 I’m happy to let him off the hook until he is 22/23, and by then it’s time to switch the mantle with big X, perfect. I also remember seeing how disappointed Adelaide were when we called his name out, so it’s not like we reached either, other clubs wanted him.

We’ve gone:
McKernan into Hale/McIntosh into Goldstein into Xerri.

All of those guys have been in the top handful of rucks in the league when they’ve been up and running so think North deserve a little credit out of goodwill here.
Rucks are probably the one area of the ground, that we’ve consistently been good at developing for as long as I’ve supported this club. Hence, remain optimistic and have faith in Goad yet, that we can develop him into Xerri’s successor and/or partner in crime years down the line. Patience.

Must be something in the water at North Melbourne you think?

What is it about the club that means we create good ruck men?

Just curious because it’s a different development team, different ruck coaches, different footy dept.

I agree that we have five this, not so certain it’s necessarily something we have done specifically that heightens confidence that Goad will be ok.

Free & Edwards have been busts no?

Todays Grand Final is a perfect example of why there’s no need to use top end draft picks on ruckmen.

I have no idea if Goad will be a player, but using pick 20 on a project tall, I don’t get it.

Would Logan Morris have been a wiser pick than Goad with our current list profile???? I think so.

Didn't you have a post on page 1 of Goldstein's player thread questioning the recruitment of "dinosaurs" that is now deleted?

We’ve had plenty of bust ruckman in the past. McIntosh as a high draft pick was one. Regardless I thought Goad was more of a ruck/forward type. We need to give him time to develop.
McIntosh wasn't a bust at all.

If CCJ did half of what Hamish did we'd laughing about winning the trade.

Absolutely. Hamish was one of the very best rucks in the AFL and was never far from All Australian considerations when he was with us. Shame about his horrendous luck with injuries though. But was a fantastic player in spite of what he had to deal with.

Matthew Capuano, things of that nature.

This whole board continues to support Will Phillips after all these years but prepared to write off this lad is strange behaviour
