You can’t overturn a correct decision when the technology backs the umpire.

Fair was only half watching have 3 screens as the NfL and NBA are on today. Thought it wasn’t given. No issue staying with the ump call.

They only have to be out of sync by 1/30 of a second for this to occur.

Quite literally, if they are out of sync by 1/30 of a second, the spike would be "aligned" with one frame before (or after).

This is an issue with broadcasters still remaining incredibly cheap and not using high frame rate cameras.
The "gaps" between frames haven't changed for 2 decades.

Imagine the definitivness is they used those 4k 1000fps cameras (there's no limit to how "small" the snicko frame can be)
If only they weren't so cheap on it... I've never seen a proper edge spike mis-aligned by an entire 1/30th of a frame (or even 1/50th if you're talking Australian broadcasters), but i have seen it mis-aligned by partial frames... anyway, no big deal in the grand scheme of things, with the ball moving around like that a few runs more to Cummins is not hugely likely

This is why we should not judge keepers under top order standards of batting.

Despite batting beautifully Carey won’t get the chance to build his innings and make a score that will shut people up. Even though this innings is vital and basically put the game out of Pakistan’s reach.

He’s kept beautifully for a long time, so he clearly hasn’t lost it. Need to back him in and let him find form.

yeah the delay between sound and sight makes sense. you dont really consider it watching it live, but he has probably just nicked the seam on that shot where the ball is right next to the bat. but they are consistent with those ones so i cant really complain

So it is as flawed as hot spot? Why bother with the technology then.
And camera's aren't designed to take frames at the pace you require. It's the reason why touched off the boot is very blurry.

Weird question but if we have ball tracking is there any reason why they can't track bat movement as well? Surely technology has improved in the past 20 years to pursue this.

I understand there's allowances for error but it'd be kind of cool to see it in action.

Averaging over 30 and 4 dismissals per test. Not too bad is it

The interesting thing about hotspot is we've seen players given out simply based on a white mark, nothing else. There was a dismissal earlier in this Test match (can't recall who) where all the umpire saw was hotspot and bang, out.
Yeah it was a very tiny white mark.

I think it was an LBW shout v Marsh 1st inns and they saw a white mark and reversed the decision
