Dylan Stephens
The Sydney Swans used their first pick five since Jarrad McVeigh in 2002 to lock in a talented midfielder from South Australian club Norwood at the 2019 AFL Draft. Dylan Stephens is a prolific ball-winner and creative user of the footy by hand and foot. He played predominantly on a wing in the early matches of the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships before starring on the inside in the final match, gathering 33 disposals in a best-on-ground performance. A penetrating left-footer, he averaged 23.8 disposals and 4.8 tackles across the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships and was rewarded with All Australian honours. He also played some excellent football at senior level with Norwood, averaging 18.2 disposals and 4.6 tackles in 12 matches. Stephens enjoyed a breakout season for the Bloods in 2020 with a memorable AFL debut in Round 6 against Richmond alongside fellow debutant, Chad Warner. Stephens finished the campaign with eight appearances, averaging 12.5 disposals and 3.4 marks per game, while also kicking two goals.

Which one? That no other coach uses a tall player? 5 had by April. That players like Amarty aren't subbed?* (was one of the few regularly subbed off. That other coaches don't pass on using the sub? Has happened multiple times at other clubs this year.

*This one is a colossally stupid argument, by the way. 'Regularly doesn't sub off players who are gassed'. There's one sub. Almost every player on the field is cooked.

I was a fan, but to be honest he was never undroppable, and he never really had many "pick me" games in the VFL.

Hope he makes it big and has a good career, think he's a inside to outside midfielder at heart and hope North use him that way.

Taylor should have been the best of the lot. Was ahead of them all by a mile in his first season. But you can't help some people unfortunately.

Good to see Dyl travelling with the lads in Bali (as per Instagram).
End of the day they're all still mates. Not gonna dump him because he sees himself being better utilised elsewhere. That'd be a pretty shit thing to do

Hahaha, for *s sake, this is objectively untrue.

Sub is really a personal preference I guess but when it comes to September Horse loses finals more than he wins them, so maybe he can tidy that up and stop wasting the talent he has coached.

He is the only coach who:

Picks talls as a sub
Picks a sub he doesn’t trust on the field
Decides not to use a sub at all in some matches
Quite regularly inserts the sub in the last 5 minutes of the game regardless of the status of the match
Regularly keeps players on the field who are clearly gassed or no longer contributing (ie Amartey) without utilising the sub

17 other coaches inject a running sub as fresh legs in every match this season except one, and that was Beveridge who is as cooked as Longmire

Do you think it’s a coincidence that we’re one of the worst 4th quarter teams in the league?

Let’s see who has more of an impact, him or Hollands

O ok

😂

You know I’m right and you’re wrong

Go and out your red hat back on Trumpy
Wow, these posts aged well 😂

If there was a team who's fixture only had them facing top 8 sides and they never got to play the bottom 10 sides for an entire decade would you expect them to have a better than 50% win rate?

I can’t stand the bloke but I expect Clarko has a better finals record and ditto Chris Scott and even Dimma. In his 11 seasons of Finals, there was one glorious Premiership and three ignominious exits - 2 shameful GF performances plus another v Geelong.

No-one here believes he is a **** coach but is a very good coach with some deficits. To his credit I believe he recognised his own deficits and took measures to arrest these, inc Pike coming in.
