Player Profile

In an indication of Tom McCartin’s rapid rise, the young Sydney Swans forward had played 34 AFL games by the end of his teenage years – and that was despite being the youngest player in the league in his debut 2018 season. The Geelong Falcons product has a brilliant marking ability and presents a tall target inside 50, although coach John Longmire has also used him as a key defender. McCartin is the younger brother of number one 2014 AFL Draft pick Paddy, who played 35 AFL games with St Kilda.

Is just the singlet or does Chucky look the slightest of the three brothers? Not surprising given the other two have spent years on AFL lists and working out in the gym big time. Charlie might fill out if he starts doing the same.

Tom had a bit of a ho-hum year overall I thought. Do others see it the same way? What does he need to work on?
Composure for mine.

He just looked nervous and uncertain at times, which made me nervous and uncertain watching him, and probably made the players around him nervous and uncertain, too.

A strong premiership defence needs a rock-solid pillar. Think Harris Andrews, Darcy Moore (at least the 2023 version lol), Tom Stewart, Steven May, Dylan Grimes... etc etc.

McCartin's gotta get a bit more assured in his ability to be as reliable as those names. He certainly has all of the physical attributes needed to be.
