Surely he can't keep playing this well right? Feels like the whole team is just riding a crest of incredible form and feeding off each other.
Why not? When you discover your best, why would you settle for less? This group (I hope the others not playing too) seem incredibly bonded, positive and selfless. They sure seem to be enjoying themselves!

Hickey has been a really good addition to our team, mostly (imo) because he's an actual ruck, not just someone pinch-hitting in the role. Our young midfield would not be doing anywhere near as well without him...

He's another of those who weren't getting games in their club(s) and have come to Sydney as their final hope. Once here he was immediately immersed in the bloods culture work ethos and had the added bonus of brilliant 1:1 coaching by Cox.

If Naismith finally gets fit enough to play consecutive games, we'll have two rucks come finals time...

His performances make the trading of aliir more than palatable. Masterstroke, especially considering it meant we could retain picks to draft Logan, and still have currency to match for Campbell and gulden.

Pure brilliance.
Also felt some relief after watching the Port - West Coast game.
AA looked ordinary ...

Which doesn’t mean he is ordinary, but he is inconsistent.

Lets be honest & fair with Aliir.
Aliir was & never will be a one on one lock down defender, as was proven again the other night against West Coast.
Aliir's best role in defence is to be the interceptor who has other key defenders cover for him while he takes risks running of his man in order to create some run. He was at his best in 2016 when he was doing this.
BUT!
He was only able to do this because we had Ted Richards, Reg Grundy, Dane Rampe & Nick Smith down there as the disciplined locked down defenders that also knew when to leave their own opponents to help out a team mate. throw in Macca who told everyone where to stand.
That is some serious experience right there next to Aliir.
The guy just didn't come on as the next big lock down defender & against the Eagles with those big blokes forward, his role was rendered useless with his team mates too concerned about their own opponents, to even consider helping him out while he tried to play the role promised to him by Hinkley, which was to be that free running defender doing his own thing. Hinkley romanced Aliir with that carrot but he found out it is dependent on how well his team mates are playing on their own opponents. This is no fault of Aliir's but pretty much the way certain games play out.

Throw in the new rules where the ball gets into the forward line a lot quicker & cleaner & Aliir's position becomes vulnerable.
Port Adelaide will have him chopping out in the ruck at some point this year which in turn will reinforce our decision to play him in that role last year & then not offer him the world in order to keep him.
Though there has been much doubt about our list management team over these last few years, these first 3 weeks & how well our young guys have played have only reinforced & franked any decision we have made over the last 4 years to get to this point with our list.

Sure, we have brought in some interesting recruits such as Taylor, Gray, Menzel & Thurlow & for cap reasons let go of Hanners, Jones, Newman, Mitchell, Jetta & Rohan but we are now in a good place.
have a read of this that was written by Jake Niall only last year.

Hmmm... that article is only 9 months old... and hasn't aged well at all!!!

I can’t prove it, but I just know the AFL loved this article.

It might be fourth time lucky for Tom Hickey
Hickey's move from West Coast to Sydney during last year's Trade Period gained little prominence in the latter stages of the exchange window. But the early signs are that it looks a masterstroke from the Swans' list management team. Hickey's form has been strong in the early stages of Sydney's 3-0 start to the season, and he was critical in its shock victory over Richmond on Saturday. Not only did he hold his own in the ruck against Toby Nankervis, Hickey also pushed forward for two important goals. The former Eagle, Sun and Saint has been a football journeyman but might have timed his latest move perfectly with a side on the rise and opportunity in his hands. - Callum Twomey

That kick from Gulden to Hickey !!!

We let Rohan go because the Club finally realised he was a Spud.

That kick from Gulden to Hickey !!!
I love the short kicking but I don’t want the boys to play it safe. Kicks like this one blow the game open and destroy opposition attempts to smother our movement. Amazing !!!

The Club has addressed the problems with its fitness and rehab program. I mourn what became of Hanners. A heart and soul player he typified Bloods culture and deserved to be a one Club player.

Tom is the only player to play for clubs in 4 states.
Hopefully he has no desire to play for a South Australian club ;)

He is a one club player.
He is just there to stuff them up for us.
