The 3rd Ashes Test – Australia vs England – The WACA
The Third Ashes Test will be hosted by Perth, being played at the WACA, which is one of Australia’s most beautiful grounds, the 22,000 capacity, the different time zone and the flat pitch are all things that make the ground great, with many in the Eastern states loving the time zone difference, it means they can get up late and not miss any action, and then have a few beers later on as the sun sets were they are but the action is still well and truly alive in Perth.
Last Ashes series, the first innings was average, with Australia making 244 and then England only making 215, the second innings though was a lot more entertaining, with Australia making 512 declared, and Hussey, Clarke and Gilchrist making hundreds. Australia went on to only let England make 350 which meant Australia went 3-0 up in the series and won by 206 runs, unfortunately those days are over, a draw in Brisbane and being dominated in Adelaide means Australian Cricket is at its worst stage in a very long time, many have called for the spin king Shane Warne to make a comeback, but that was shot down by Cricket Australia, although a website has been set up which encourages Australians to donate money to Warnie for him to make a comeback, over $5000 has been donated.
Australia have bought in Ben Hilfenhaus, Mitchell Johnson, Phillip Hughes, Steven Smith and Michael Beer into the squad, while Marcus North, Doug Bollinger, Simon Katich and Xavier Doherty. The nation has been in shock with the inclusion of Michael Beer and some have even said that Beer is making the Australian attack more attractive. Smith and Hughes are both young guns who need to be playing in this series, and Hilfenhaus and Johnson have come back in with the selectors trying to find at least one player who can take a few wickets.
The English have lost Stuart Broad for the rest of the series, which may be a loss for them, and Tremlett being the likely inclusion to the side. England did lose some of their momentum in the recent tour match against Victoria though, in the second innings, Cook was out for 10, Collingwood for 8, and Bell making 17, it was only a tour match but they would have expected a lot more from themselves.
This test match looks to be a cracker with Australia probably having their best side of the series and gunning to equal the series, and England with a lot to play for and if they win this, they will keep the Ashes in England.

Re: 3rd Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia vs England @ the WACA [THURS-MON] Day 2

Is this the day that England wrap up the Ashes or is this the day we put ourselves in the box seat to square it up?

It comes down to both sides temperament when England bat. If Johnson bowls as he did in the first innings, England are screwed :(. If they can hold off the bowling attack, England will do well (on reflection it may come down to how Australia bats today).

Re: 3rd Vodafone Ashes Test: Australia vs England @ the WACA [THURS-MON] Day 2

If Australia get to lunch only losing another 1-2 wickets they basically can't lose. Any more than that and its game on. Realistically England wouldn't be able to chase more than about 300, but wickets have been falling in clumps so England aren't out of it.

Should be a wonderful day of test cricket. Really looking forward to it.

Hoping Huss and Watto can bat out the first session, have a lead of maybe 280-300 odd at lunch, with Smith, Hads and MJ to pile on some quick runs while the Poms bake under the Perth sun later in the afternoon.

I, on the other hand, am hoping for rain/sandstorm/perth is destroyed by a plague of locusts.

They can chase above 350, so a 400 run lead is the goal here.
(Historically, that's what has been acheivable)
Hopefully Hussey and Watto can bat out the first session.
Johnson would love another score here.

massive massive day today. bring it on. hopefully the boys go from strength to strength and bury the poms.

loved reading the english papers today. they're not calling it the "saggy green" anymore:thumbsu:

Australia with a 200 run lead, anything over 300 and the Poms will find it almost impossible to chase down.

Expect Australia to come out a little cautious this morning in the first 1/2 an hour or so, then just "explode".

No need to hold back, we simply need runs, and the loss of wickets won't be as important as long as we are still scoring.

119 at the moment, hopefully we can beat our first innings total, and build a 300+ run lead, and have a little crack at weak old Strauss and co before stumps.:)

End of the day, England, 310 runs behind, with 8 wickets in hand.:thumbsu:

You reckon? I still wouldn't feel safe even with a lead of 350. England's batsman are still in form and with our lack of spinning options they would still feel confident chasing down anything under 400.

350 minimum, but may as well bat until we're bowled out. even if we set 500 there will probably be 5-6 sessions left to play... and england bat those sessions they'd a good chance of getting that. no draw this game.
