Not if last year is anything to go by
Even historically, when gave we come away with a good haul from a trade? In recent times

As much as I'm not super confident in our list management team, I must say that the Xerri scenario has given me some hope in regards to Cam. I expect (mostly hope) us to make it difficult if he does decide to leave.
Looking back Saints would've coughed up that second if they knew what he'd be like this year IMO

Would you settle for Freo's first?

What about Freo' first this year plus a swap of their second for our third the following year?
I’d say a pick around 8-12 would be good, it is his value to us. I’m not convinced Freo would pay it, particularly as they are after Jackson too.

I think they will offer players, and it won’t be ones they rate.

Best case Lobb (yuck)
Worst case Tucker (pack the club up if he’s involved)

Would freo give Cox or switowski?

Tracey is young and looks to have some mongrel

Cam is out of contract we can’t force him to stay if he wants out, we therefore are going to have to accept what we are offered by the club he chooses to go to ala BBB…!
But BBB wasn't and isn't the commodity CZ is.

We can afford to play hardball if he wants out, especially if we have pick 1 in the PSD.

Only because how we played it.

Jesus Christ the media spruik Matt Crouch as a key piece in a fantasy trade for JHF.

BB had 3 x 60 goal years he had value

Probably worth mentioning that (assuming their current ladder position) Freo have pick 13 and then 72, and nothing in between.
I’d say they’ll get something for lobb (hopefully he doesn’t come to us in a CZ trade maybe part of a three team trade?)

I reckon it gets swept under the carpet a bit because the club was able to immediately offset BBB with Sleevo and presented it that way.

Had Collingwood not stuffed their cap the scrutiny on us for the BBB trade would be tenfold IMO

Nek Minit we win a game or two and Eagles end up last, and offer us a 3rd rounder or they walk him through to the PSD with the number 1 pick.

It gets better.....

NMFC list mgmt team; "Look WC were happy to trade for Cam, but we wanted to do the right thing by them during their list rebuild, so offered to let him walk to the PSD. Strategically we think this will help us win favour with the umpires if we ever play a final at Optus oval again...."

Yeah I don't think they're going to be able to get both Jackson and Zurhaar.

BBB scored an inordinate amount of goals from free kicks, had speculatively a really poor knee that may not hold up and could even be degenerative and came off a season where he was found out as someone who didn't have many tricks left and not a lot of improvement left. Noone else wanted him. You can't just set a price on your house at an auction and act flabbergasted when noone turns up. We got what he was worth IMO and his form and durability is proving that now.

Speaking as a WA guy from Freo and watching him at East freo, i don't think there is any go home factor with zurhaar. most of the kids that go home to WA are from the outback and/or have large families. He seems to love the Melbourne lifestyle, Perth and Freo cannot compete on that front. He'd be the type to stay in Melbourne even once he retires.

He was a rookie pick and been with us since 2016, his value went us moderately before he last signed, if he was desperate to go home he would've facilitated a trade then.

The only risk is if WCE throw 10 hungry jack franchises and spot on the property development company board half the WCE team is on. Freo can maybe promise him local celebrity status. i don't he's the type of guy for that stuff though.

I think there is more risk of a Melbourne or Sydney team.

yes, but if the defender didn't infringe BBB would've made the mark....

Not a chance in hell that the Rory Lobsters ends up at North. If that was to happen. I'd go and burn the place down and be lorded for my humanitarian ways.

Our gooses would be well and truly cooked. The fat lady would have sung a song of despair.

I thought we copped it pretty hard on Brown with the media but the main damage from them was when we said we weren't offering him a contract because they endlessly asked us if we were giving him a contract. It had all settled down by trade week (I think in part due to the lack of suitors).

Yeah I don't think they're going to be able to get both Jackson and Zurhaar.
They could, realistically they could offer this and next year first for Jackson or a player.

It’s why I think it’ll be a player for CZ if it happens, and I’m pessimistic we will get good value

I agree.

If I was in CZ's shoes, I would've put off contract talks as well.

Every week that he goes out and kicks 2-3 goals, his asking price goes up. He knows there is cash to burn and a mostly young list that will not be getting paid top dollar (yet). With the older guys staring down the barrel of rolling one year contracts, this next one for Cam is the moneymaker as he can ask for a greater percentage of the cap value.

In his position, I would sign a 3-4 year contract knowing that this still gives me the opportunity to negotiate one more extension. If he outperforms during the new contract period, then he can write his own cheque on the extension.

As much as he's obviously a real chance of leaving, given he still hasn't signed, I would be really surprised that he'd leave if we signed Clarko. Given we have the cap space, surely we'll be able to put a deal in front of him that he will be happy with. The only issue would be if he's already committed to another club, but even that can be overturned as we well know.

What would be a fair contract to offer him? I'd say 3-4 year deal worth around 600k. Would he want more? Probably yes, but given how inconsistent he's been it would be dangerous to offer more. In saying that, he has the X factor we so badly need, so at the end of the day may have to pay a bit more.
